Also for those interested in exploring the sun through solar telescope or night skies through large Dobsonian telescope The hut has an inside wood heater and verandas this hut makes a cosy stay away. A 40 acre bush block with a Trust for Nature Covenant. This box-ironbark woodland block has 2 dams and plenty of wildlife, a great place for bird watching. A self guided nature walk on the property provides you with an introduction to the local ecosystem. There is also a bird list for the property along with photos and descriptions of some of these birds. There is a makeshift bird hide and binoculars that you can borrow. The hut has a double bed (bedding provided), undercover of the veranda is a gas stove with two burners and a grill, outside a long drop toilet, water tank (not drinkable) but drinkable water will be provided. The hut is close to one of the dams. Only one booking at a time so you won’t be sharing camping site with anyone. Owners live on the property but out of view and ear shot. A picnic set, kettle, camp stove and saucepans available for use. Solar lights inside, internal wood heater outside fire pit. Note no shower. Basic amount of wood provided for internal heater and cost $10 milk crate of wood for external fire pit, a crate should last a couple of hours. Take the opportunity to explore the night sky with a large telescope. A guided 90 minute star gazing experience using 500mm diameter telescope is offered for $50/session to guests of the antechinus hut. Depending on the time of year you will see galaxies, nebulae, star clusters and planets. This is only offered when conditions allow, clear skies and minimal moon. Note this activity involves use of step ladder due to size of telescope. There is also solar astronomy, view viewing the sun through hydrogen alpha telescope. $30 for 30minutes There are great bike rides off and on road, close to Cairn Curran (15km) for fishing and kayaking, also plenty of bushwalks and bird watching sites nearby. Newstead 5km away whilst Daylesford, Maldon and Castlemaine are about 25km away.The hut is settled in a bush setting, near a dam. Bush Getaway!
Bush Camp Hut aka Antechinus Hut
Beautiful little bush getaway nestled under the gum trees. The spot is peaceful, quiet, and full of things to learn about the surrounding land. The hosts were incredibly accommodating and even mapped out a walking route around the property, which was genuinely interesting. Highly recommend for anyone considering a visit. Plenty of wildlife, and the inside is super cosy with the wood-fired heater.

Cosy Hut, Superb Host

The Antechinus hut has become my favorite bush hut after one visit already! It's so quiet and cosy and Megan was super helpful and flexible as we navigated having to go home early cause of personal circumstances. We have already booked our next stay.

It was really lovely! My friend and I came from the city and we liked Patrick's hospitality, the hut and the surroundings! It was beautiful and we had everything we needed. The nature walk was well guided and marked and just overall, so good!

The Perfect Little Hut
Bush Camp Hut aka Antechinus Hut
Absolutely LOVED our stay at the Antechinus hut. It has everything you need, stovetop, teapot, quiet, private, plenty of fire wood provided. The room stayed so toasty warm with the little fire heater. So much land to explore, especially loved spotting the roo and wallaby tracks around the dam. Megan was also such a lovely and relaxed host and made us feel more than welcome. We will return!

Cosy, private cabin in the bush!
Bush Camp Hut aka Antechinus Hut
This little cabin is cosy, more spacious than the pictures make it look, and warm the fireplace kept it very warm all night. The cabin feels disconnected and private, and is a good distance away from the main house. There is a great outdoor firepit, plenty of water, the cooking essentials, and a clean outhouse! The hosts are absolutely lovely and welcoming, and id stay there again in a heartbeat.

Megan and Patrick were great hosts and their charming little hut was perfect for us to spend a rainy day and night enjoying the quiet, the dark and nature. Simple living but had everything we needed to be cosy.

Gorgeous spot for birds and quiet serenity. We loved using the fireplace and the sound of the rain on the tin roof. Megan was attentive and welcoming while also giving us our space. We’d stay again in a heartbeat.

Cozy Woodland Hut
Bush Camp Hut aka Antechinus Hut
A lovely secluded cabin stay! Very cosy and an off-grid vibe with beautiful nature and local fauna surrounding you. There’s an easy 3km nature walk nearby and only a short drive into the surrounding local towns. It wasn’t cold enough when we were there, but there’s a large indoor fire place and big outdoor fire bit to get cozy during the colder months. Megan and her husband were lovely and attentive hosts and have great insight into the local wildlife. There is no wifi and the cabin has solar-powered lights, so it’s perfect for a weekend escape. Highly recommend!
