When we purchased this property 37 years ago and built our unique home, it was
denuded cattle land, and now we are surrounded by the most beautiful rainforest.
We planted approximately 8000 trees.!
We have 4 sites available all close to the river, and can provide water as well as access to our toilet. We are agile wallaby carers, with the rescued joeys being released back into the forest from here. After a day of kayaking or hiking or exploring the area we also offer a sunset massage (as available ) by a local masseuse who lives on the property. Watch the stars in the night sky at your own campfire.

A beautiful 160 acre paddock that you can enjoy.
Cleared slashed areas beside the river. Enjoy a river swim to cool you down during summer and go for a cold dip during winter. River is also good for fishing during the right season. Access to river is 100 metres on graded walking track.
Unless you have a ‘booster ’there is very limited mobile coverage or internet. {enjoy the peace and solitude}
Access to the property is fourteen kilometres gravel, coming off the highway.
Sites are private separated from each other, some sites suit clothing optional guests
Site is 300 metres from road and provides privacy. Tents and small caravans are ideal. Not suitable for highway caravans or very large vans as the access will be too rough.
There are walking areas at rear of property. Be aware tropical North Queensland has paralysis ticks and we have snakes at times and visiting pigs.
Water can be supplied upon request. Power generators are permitted

Juliet and Grant have been custodians since 2003, in that time we've built a house, raised a family and now that Alex and Hayley are both at University, life has become a little quieter, (not so sure if we like the quiet though!)

We do offer plenty of space and you will not be crowded out as we keep numbers very limited. No facilities, no toilets, showers, electricity, rubbish bins etc. We do ask that you respect this as you must be fully self contained. We do not consider, a bucket with a lid, to be self contained ok!
Right now though in our top dam, we have a flock of White Egrets roosting at night, spectacular when they depart & return each day, however due to the number of these birds, hundreds if not more! they have fouled the water in the dam & it's a bit on the nose.

We have had recent sightings of cassowary on our property so keep an eye out, you might just see one!We prefer self-contained campers, who have their own amenities, but we do have a toilet and shower up at the main house (about 50 metres away) you are welcome to use if needed. This is an unused bathroom downstairs so you will still have privacy. Access into the property is not suitable for large motorhomes. Entry will be too small for vehicles approx 8.5 metres long and 3.5 metres high.We grow exotic fruit on the property including limes, pomelos, mangosteens and more. When it's in season, you're welcome to sample some! Gordonvale is the nearest town, with a quiet historic charm, just 15 minutes drive away, while Cairns is around 25 minutes.

Site 2 Our newer spot work in progress not so ideal for camper trailers. your situated under our tree line away from the main creek. A smaller paver firepit, plenty fine for sitting around an open fire while watching the stars at night.
Swimming in the creek is not recommended.
So please check by internal message before confirming your booking that way we can confirm a spot while discussing your needs to ensure you have a clear view of your camping area.
Onsite we have our shared outhouse porta toilet which is positioned in the middle of both camping areas for everyone's convenience.

Right now though in our top dam, we have a flock of White Egrets roosting at night, spectacular when they depart & return each day, however due to the number of these birds, hundreds if not more! they have fouled the water in the dam & it's a bit on the nose.

Our 20-acre exotic fruit farm backs onto World heritage rainforest and provides a relaxing base for which to explore the wet tropics south of Cairns. We have a beautiful freshwater swimming hole down the road, and also the Mulgrave River is very close if you want to do some fishing.The camping area is large, grassy and reasonably level, with space closer to the tree line, and space more out in the open. There is a firepit provided, and plenty of firewood around the place for you to help yourself to. We also welcome four-legged family members! We have had recent sightings of cassowary on our property so keep an eye out, you might just see one!We prefer self-contained campers, who have their own amenities, but we do have a toilet and shower up at the main house (about 50 metres away) you are welcome to use if needed. This is an unused bathroom downstairs so you will still have privacy. Access into the property is not suitable for large motorhomes. Entry will be too small for vehicles approx 8.5 metres long and 3.5 metres high.We grow exotic fruit on the property including limes, pomelos, mangosteens and more. When it's in season, you're welcome to sample some! Gordonvale is the nearest town, with a quiet historic charm, just 15 minutes drive away, while Cairns is around 25 minutes.

Site 1 right down on the creek large grass flat space big enough for two families to set up camp. The creek runs around the outside so there are a number of viewing points to see the wildlife mentioned above. A set of solar lights hang over the firepit area allowing for more light while cooking on our wonderful swinging hotplate BBQ.
Site 2 Our newer spot work in progress not so ideal for camper trailers. your situated under our tree line away from the main creek. A smaller paver firepit, plenty fine for sitting around an open fire while watching the stars at night.
Swimming in the creek is not recommended.

The site had the best grass we have ever seen at a campsite! It was beautifully mowed & presented. There was plenty of room for our caravan.

Both Dean and his brother Chris were super friendly and helped us with everything we needed. We can also recommend visiting Hartley’s Crocodile Adventure, as ist is right next door. A really lovely open spot close to the beach. We arrived after some very heavy rain, but the hosts were kind enough to clear a higher, drier area for us as the usual camping spot was flooded.

We had a wonderful stay here. Dean is an incredibly kind and welcoming host—he greeted us at the gate, showed us around the campground, and shared lots of helpful local advice. Baron river retreat isn’t just a beautiful place for camping for a few nights, it’s a special place that soothes the soul and refreshes and recharges you. From the moment you arrive and drive down through the farm, giving a cheeky wave to the cows you can feel your troubles melt away. The camp site itself has so much space and options for all tastes from lush grass in full sun to shady spots under the trees, all of which are flat and easy to set up on. Where ever you choose to make home for the time you are here you will be able to hear the gentle sounds of water bubbling over the rapids while you’re serenaded by the kookaburras. There’s a wonderful flat area next to the river which is perfect to have your morning coffee and if you’re lucky you might spot the resident platypus. Go for a refreshing swim, a paddle up the river or brave one of the rapid pools for a refreshing massage. And to top it all off you can finish the day with a hot shower courtesy of the donkey hot water system followed by toasting marshmallows around the fire pit while looking for fireflies. The green loo is a bonus for those who don’t do “bushy bushy”
You will not regret a stay at Baron River retreat and the hardest thing is leaving at the end of the stay.
