Please read all of the following information before submitting a booking request. Requests that don’t provide the required information will not be processed. Stonesthrow is a 106 acre rural property in the peaceful Illinbah Valley. Nestled between Beechmont and Canungra, we are about an hour (a stones throw) from the Gold Coast or Brisbane. Over time, the property has been used to farm goats, train racing camels and spell racehorses and is now a family hobby farm. We currently have three dogs, cows, horses, goats and some friendly donkeys who love to meet new people for some pats and a carrot! We offer a choice of sites- either Lower Sites close to the beautiful shallow creek that meanders its way through the property or Elevated Sites with views of the valley. LOWER SITES have access to facilities- toilets, a powered shed, kettle, fridge and a sink. Most sites offer 2WD access yet still facilitate the experience of camping in the bush. These are the only sites that caravans can access. ELEVATED SITES have stunning views of the valley. These sites are only accessible by capable 4WD and require you to bring your own sealed, chemical camping toilet and ensuite tent which we sight on arrival before allowing guests access to the track. Check-in must be during daylight hours to enable safe access. Off-road camper trailers can access these sites. When submitting a booking request, select either a Lower Site or Elevated Site. Please include your vehicle make and model, camping setup (tent/swag/camper trailer), type of toilet and ensuite tent (if requesting an elevated site) and number of occupants (adults, children, dogs). Friendly dogs are welcome and must be kept on a lead when in close proximity to the cottage and other campers. Please note, the availability of certain sites is weather dependant. We are not a 4WD adventure park. Vehicles must be left at your campsite and NOT used to explore the property. Exploration of the property is welcome by foot or bicycle: 1.2 km from bottom to top. Due to insurance considerations, no 'day visitors' are allowed unless they have an approved Hipcamp booking. We are a Leave No Trace campground - ensure what you bring in, leaves with you. All camp fires must be fully extinguished with water prior to departure.

So please respect it and enjoy it as we do. We have 5 designated campsites positioned around the property. Within the designated sites, there are camp spots that we rotate. Please check with us to see what ones are open. We need to rotate the sites and rest them. This is how we keep them well-maintained and looking amazing. If it is wet weather we will close down sites and recommend other spots. We pride our self’s on having a lovely property and want you to have an amazing camping experience. If it is bad weather, we will recommend another site or you can change dates. Campfires are allowed at designated camp spots when fire bans aren't in place. Firewood is available to purchase . We have a no dog policy No smoking is allowed on the property, vaping is fine at your own campsite. No glass Policy, bring cans plastic glasses to drink out off. We do have a lot of rule, they are in place to give you a Beautiful environment to Camp in and To look after our Animals and farm. We accept groups however we have strict rules around this, so please discuss with us first. If you are up early in the morning you may be lucky enough to see the best in QLD barefoot water skiers training on the lake and also tandem hang gliders getting towed up from the airstrip. Stonesthrow is a 106 acre rural property in the peaceful Illinbah Valley. Nestled between Beechmont and Canungra, we are about an hour (a stones throw) from the Gold Coast or Brisbane. Over time, the property has been used to farm goats, train racing camels and spell racehorses and is now a family hobby farm. We currently have three dogs, cows, horses, goats and some friendly donkeys who love to meet new people for some pats and a carrot! We offer a choice of sites- either Lower Sites close to the beautiful shallow creek that meanders its way through the property or Elevated Sites with views of the valley. LOWER SITES have access to facilities- toilets, a powered shed, kettle, fridge and a sink. Most sites offer 2WD access yet still facilitate the experience of camping in the bush. These are the only sites that caravans can access. ELEVATED SITES have stunning views of the valley. These sites are only accessible by capable 4WD and require you to bring your own sealed, chemical camping toilet and ensuite tent which we sight on arrival before allowing guests access to the track. Check-in must be during daylight hours to enable safe access. Off-road camper trailers can access these sites. When submitting a booking request, select either a Lower Site or Elevated Site. Please include your vehicle make and model, camping setup (tent/swag/camper trailer), type of toilet and ensuite tent (if requesting an elevated site) and number of occupants (adults, children, dogs). Friendly dogs are welcome and must be kept on a lead when in close proximity to the cottage and other campers. Please note, the availability of certain sites is weather dependant. We are not a 4WD adventure park. Vehicles must be left at your campsite and NOT used to explore the property. Exploration of the property is welcome by foot or bicycle: 1.2 km from bottom to top. Took our camper trailer to Dead Tree Alley really enjoyed the camp site. Guy was very friendly upon arrival and throughout our stay. Highlight was getting to feed the huge variety of animals on his property. The grounds are kept very tidy and hot shower and a toilet was great.

Great Place for Vancamping and sure for all other types of camping. Big and silent campsite with good and very easy access on a lovely and well maintained property in the nature. On the campsite is a free WIFI available. Jane and her husband are really nice and helped wherever they could. They have two friendly dogs which might will greet during your stay. We really enjoyed our stay at Jane’s property and can recommend staying there.

This host is named Guy. He is awesome - made my stay very pleasant. I did the animal feeding experience, extra feeding bucket , and got some fresh eggs from the host. I highly recommend adding these to your booking. The site is clean and private, with magnificent views of the surrounding hills and mountains The onsite 24/7 toilet and showers (with hot water) was the best. 10/10 !!

We loved our time at Bindarah Downs. We were welcomed by Shayne and had a nice chat. The property was freshly mowed and well prepared for us. The surrounding creek was lovely to cool off in. We met some of the horses and they were given a Weet Bix treat and a scratch. It reached 36 degrees but sitting under the huge trees kept us comfortably cool. Fire wood for sale on site is a bonus too. Will definitely be back!

Guy and his family were welcoming and gave clear directions on how to get to the property and where to setup camp. The kids especially enjoyed feeding the animals. They have horses, ponies, cows, sheep, goats, alpacas, chickens, turkeys and even free-range guinea pigs. The animals were very friendly and the ponies and chickens were very curious about what we were eating and came very close to us and the ponies allowed the kids to pat them. We pre-purchased a bucket of animal feed when we made the booking. Animal feed times are at 5.30pm and 8.30am. We camped near a tree towards the top of the driveway. The tree was decorated with festoon lights which provided a nice light to the bathroom at night. We got to see a shooting star and the kid's thought they might have seen Santa's sleigh. It was a great first time camping trip for us. Thanks Guy.

Peaceful and lovely views around farm. The cows were lovely to wake up to and were everywhere. Friendly though and some cute calfs. The information given before and after booking is a little confusing, as it depends where you camp as to what instruction to follow. I had messaged Tom prior to going to ask questions, but never received a reply. Once I got to the farm I called Tom, as I did not know where to go as I was in a converted minibus 2W and not all areas were suitable. However, Tom was not that helpful when I asked and just said he had been too busy to reply to me and to just go anywhere and that I’d be alright. Felt a little like he wasn’t too bothered, which surprised me given the previous reviews I’d read and how helpful Tom was. Maybe caught him at a bad time….. price wise, I thought it was a little expensive given that toilets are the only amenity. I had only paid $10 more in the area for power and water hook up, but guess you’re paying for the views and peace instead! That said, we did enjoy our stay and our chosen spot was really nice. Toilets are close by and clean enough.

Beautiful place to camp. Well spaced out (we barely saw anyone while staying), perfect views, beautiful creek. Portaloos accessible from all of the areas we looked at and were clean and looked after - I saw Tom checking them all while we were there. Access to firewood for $20. Great fire barrels. Lovely spots to walk through. Tom was really helpful. Easy drive and lots of spots are accessible for 2wd. Recommend going for a walk around the property as there are some spots we found after setup that would've been lovely - so we've picked our spot for next time! Loved the place and we will definitely be back.

Families are welcome to pitch an extra kids’ tent beside the van if booked together. • Pecan Platform Tent Site - Under the pecans with a timber platform for a level, dry pitch and a large designated fire ring. • Pecan Meadow Tent Site - Level grass under the pecans with its own designated fire ring. • Orchard Retreat Van - Modern, permanently set up in a private nook of the orchard. Hot shower and toilet, power and water, fridge/freezer, gas cooktop, sink, basic cookware, and a comfy made queen bed. Access: 2WD in normal dry conditions. After heavy rain, AWD/4WD is recommended. Park and walk a short path to tent sites. The Orchard Retreat Van has direct vehicle access. Pets: Welcome on our property. Fires: In designated fire rings only and only when local rules allow. Leave No Trace: Please take all rubbish with you. We’re a small family on a beautiful 5-acre farm next to the Brunswick River in Mullumbimby. We practice permaculture and organic fruit and vegetable farming. Camp under shady trees or in a grassy paddock. We are 10 mins from the Brunswick Heads rivers and beaches. Simple amenities including an outdoor shower. You can purchase firewood or bring your own. Dogs permitted as long as they are kept on a leash or kept within the campsite and it's left clean. All rubbish must be removed. Restricted numbers so you can be sure you won't feel overcrowded. Contact us if any days aren't available as we often get cancellations. There's a country feel yet it's 3 mins away from the thriving township of Mullumbimby. Lots of cafes, artisan shops, Kiva spa, Banya bathhouse and amazing healthy food everywhere. Or enjoy the nightly pilgrimage of the flying foxes across the evening sky. Where to go

Gold Coast

North of Currumbin, the Gold Coast is Queensland’s flagship beach destination. Stop by Burleigh Heads to browse the famous Village Markets, hit the surf at Miami Beach or Broadbeach, or get your adrenaline pumping at one of the five theme parks. Further north, the skyscraper-lined beaches of Surfer’s Paradise are world-famous, and the city’s nightlife is equally renowned.  

Gold Coast Hinterlands

Away from the theme parks and beach resorts of the coast, the Gold Coast hinterlands are a natural playground of mountains, rainforest, and vineyards. Take in the views from Tamborine Mountain, explore glowworm caves in the Springbrook National Park, or hike part of the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk. To escape the crowds, pitch your tent at backcountry campsites in the Lamington National Park.

NSW North Coast

South of Currumbin, Tweed Heads is the cultural hub of the Tweed region, where you can enjoy rainforest walks, surf beaches, and riverside camping. Continue south along the Legendary Pacific Coast Route to the surf mecca of Byron Bay, or head inland to hike and camp in the Nightcap National Park.

When to go

Currumbin is a year-round destination, and the sun is always shining along the Gold Coast. Surfing and water sports are possible right through winter, but peak season is summer (December through January), when attractions such as the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary can get crowded. Spring brings a number of festivals and events to the beachside, while June through October whale-watching season along the coast. 

Know before you go

  • The Gold Coast has an excellent public transport service, but having your own transport is useful for exploring the hinterlands and national parks.
  • Currumbin has a good selection of shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies before heading out into the hinterlands.
  • Fire bans are common in Queensland during summer and dry periods, so be sure to check local recommendations.
  • Camping permits are required to camp within Queensland’s national parks and must be reserved in advance.
