Welcome to A lovely, secluded streamside campsite. With a private maintained streamside camping area of aprox 1 acre on a ten acre property, surrounded by rain forrest and farmland. Kids are welcome to join small farm activities, feeding chickens and cows, collecting eggs and harvesting fruit trees when fruit is available. Some very special wildlife for the quite observer including regular sitings of platypus and tree kangaroos. We also regularly see the Ulysses and cairns bird wing butterflies with glow bugs being fairly common in the warmer months. Close to township of Malanda with tourist activities throughout the atherton tablelands. This area is usually 5-10 degrees cooler than Cairns and does not get the summer humidity. Firewood and fireplaces provided, any small change donations for firewood are not required but they are appreciated and helps us provide abundant firewood for your stay. Water available (filtered but recomended to be boiled or treated prior to drinking) Campers need to be self contained, no toilets on site. Please respect this clean, natural setting, remove all rubbish and no interfering with flora or fauna. Bookings are only for one camp group, max six or seven caravans, camper trailers or campsites to maintain space and atmosphere. Access is by well maintained gravel drive then grassed area. Wet wether events can affect the grassed area and may need to be considered for bookings.

A highlight is beautiful permanent Flaggy Creek which meanders its way through the property for approximately 1 km and is habitat to platypus, turtles and an abundance of bird life (we are close to an ebird hotspot) with towering blue and rose gums. Take a dip on a hot day in one of several water holes including a large lagoon adjacent a mini waterfall surrounded by beautiful she-oaks. There are walks on mowed tracks around the property (look for large eastern grey kangaroos in the top paddock) including along a dam wall where you might spot herons or rainbow bee eaters (seasonally) and we can give you directions to a fire-trail to hike up to the Bluff. Herberton (10 mins) also has many excellent walking trails. All camp sites have their own fire pit (local conditions and/or state fire ban season permitting). We sell large crates of split firewood for $20 or you can collect your own. Please do not bring firewood for biosecurity reasons. During the wet season (December-April) we recommend 4WD to access the property as there is a concrete causeway creek crossing and on rare occasions this can become impassable with an extreme amount of rain but does go down very quickly once rain has eased. Please take care and go slowly on unsealed roads. Please ask for permission to fly drones.

We had a wonderful stay at Heidi's campsite. Heidi was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The campsite was spacious, peaceful, and well maintained, with plenty of firewood available, which made our evenings around the campfire even more enjoyable. We also loved the beautiful bush walk leading to a lovely little waterfall—it was a great bonus to our stay. We highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a relaxing nature getaway, and we would happily stay here again.

Review direct from my kids.."Hectic Valley was amazing! We wanted to stay for two months! Playing with the animals everyday was the best!". Kirsty, Ann and Steven were so helpful. The Waterfront site was a little windy at times (winter) but great access to the water and farm for petting the animals. We'll be back!

My child wanted to come for their birthday last year, my younger child loved so much we had to come back for their birthday. The camping spot was amazing. Nice and secluded, water safe for the children, plenty of space for them to run around. We had kayaks, SUP boards, hours of fun. Each morning the farm was great as always. My children just sit for hours with the small chick's they enjoyed the company while doing so. The other children loved feeding every other animal on the farm. Such big smiles after the interactions. The wood was dropped off to us, and toilet paper topped up. Everybody approachable when we had minor issues (hornets which can't be helped) and dealt with straight away and with a smile. Nothing too much. Thank you again for great company, happy tired children and fantastic memories. We will see you again.

2 nights at Cairns South Camp Spots

Loved the middle paddock, we had power & water as part of our stay, it was secluded from main house with trees and hedges. The serenity was great, enjoyed listening to the birds and having peace & quiet away from the busy streets of Cairns. Dogs were able to be on a long lead to ensure they didn’t wonder off and disturb others and with only a Short drive in to town for supplies … Highly recommend to anyone.

Great spot for the whole family....or three 🙌🙌😁 Pandanus was far enough away to feel like we had the whole place to ourselves, and yet just a little wander away from the farm house for fresh eggs and firewood. Shaded spot full of trees for hammocks, and a wonderful central firepit for all 11 of us to sit around long into the night.

Enjoyed my stay, nice spot that guests are lucky to have access too. Facilities were clean, area was peaceful and quiet. Does get a bit expensive for extended stays, but the value feels fair enough for what you get out of it. Just beware that it's an active farm with cattle, so there's a few landmines on the way in which is fair (not within the site though, as it's fully fenced off). So wear shoes that you don't getting a bit dirty on the way in/out when navigating the gates. Thanks Oliver, love staying at Barron River. Hope to return.
