Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120-acre (50-hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family. Living in our shed whilst we prepared the garden, installed watering infrastructure, and built our house, which we finally moved into when our daughter was 6 months old in 1990. With over 600 acres of Australian bush, our property is ideal for campers that want their own space. We are completely off-grid (no wifi to distract you) and we run off tank water (for this reason showers are only available for two hours in the evening). There are multiple camp sites on the property - some are close to hot showers and toilets, others are within a short walking distance. Some sites are perfect for our self sufficient campers who might want a nice private location and don't need access to amenities. There are two shared camp kitchen areas (with pizza ovens and bbqs). We have two amenities blocks with toilets and hot showers and two further compost toilets located at other sites. Campfires are permitted in designated areas (check with us when booking) and firewood can be added to your booking - we do require at least 24 hours notice if you want wood. There are lots of old-style games for the kids such as cricket, tennis, playground, bikes available, a swim in the dam and general country running around fun! Unfortunately we no longer have our flying fox, but there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy. We have some great bush walking areas where you might be lucky enough to see our resident wombats or our breeding pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles. The property dates back to the early 1900s and there are numerous historic buildings on the property. The earliest is a wooden slab hut that was built around the beginning of the 19th century - the Goulburn Penny Post newspaper, dated 3 December 1904 lines the walls of the hut. It also has a two shearing stand wooden shed built by Marcus Dawe in 1922. We try to make sure all of our guests have a great experience - so if you have any special requests reach out to us and have a chat!

It’s a southern Australian Mediterranean environment with distinct seasons – it can reach over 42 degrees and in the winter its been known often to snow. Sometimes in summer the easterly sea breezes reaches over the range and the smell of sea salt cools the hot evening. Merigan offers a range of activities, to relax and settle into rural life. One of the best ways to get the feel of Merigan is just taking a walk around the property. We have 3500 acres of space to meander around and a great spots for picnics, drinks and photographs. Feel free to use the Tennis Court, balls and racquets under one of the verandas at the front of the house and the bocce court at the bottom of the garden. Bungendore, 18km away, is a thriving little country town with Galleries, gift-shops, cafés, bakeries, coffee shops and bars. The Top Pub (The Royal ) is the more casual of the hotels. The Bottom Pub (The Lake George) has a fancy restaurant attached to the more informal pub area. Braidwood is a funky Heritage town about 25km East of Bungendore and well worth a visit. It has outstanding shops and eateries and 2 pubs. The Braidwood Hotel being my favourite. Tarago is 14km away. The Loaded Dog do meals but mainly on weekends (Pizzas during the week). Best to check as it varies. Other local attractions include Lark Hill Winery, Lerida Estate Winery, Turlla Truffles and Bungendore Woodworks.

The nearest shop/food outlet is in Yass, so I advise guests to bring dinner with them or to book a home-cooked meal to be served in the BnB. Our guests have exclusive use of the swimming pool and deck with elevated views of the surrounding spectacular scenery. Feel free to wander around the garden. We endeavour to keep the pool sparkling, but cannot always guarantee perfection. No diving please, for your own safety. A BBQ is available for use on the deck. Other things to note Continental breakfast is included, and if you require an evening meal, I can provide a two-course dinner for $40/person.. Please give advance notice if this is required, preferably when booking. We are a pet-friendly B&B, and welcome your pets but expect them to be clean and obedient. We charge $10 extra for one dog/night and $15/night for two dogs/night. We ask that you provide your pets with bedding and food bowls, and they are not allowed on the bed or sofa under any circumstances. The Bottom Pub (The Lake George) has a fancy restaurant attached to the more informal pub area. Braidwood is a funky Heritage town about 25km East of Bungendore and well worth a visit. It has outstanding shops and eateries and 2 pubs. The Braidwood Hotel being my favourite. Tarago is 14km away. The Loaded Dog do meals but mainly on weekends (Pizzas during the week). Best to check as it varies. Other local attractions include Lark Hill Winery, Lerida Estate Winery, Turlla Truffles and Bungendore Woodworks.

We had an incredible stay at this farm campsite! The hosts were super kind and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The kids loved seeing and interacting with so many animals – there were chickens, ducks, alpacas, Angora rabbits, horses, goats, and quails! They also had a blast collecting eggs, playing on the trampoline, and swinging on the simple swings. The little lake was beautiful, and we even spotted pelicans there. Such a peaceful, fun, and memorable spot for families or anyone who loves nature. Highly recommend!

1 night at Jarabin on the Murrumbidgee

Jara II is the ultimate rural getaway. Located about 70 km from Canberra along the Hume Highway towards Melbourne, it’s a place I can easily see becoming very popular for Canberrans looking to escape the city. We were fortunate enough to stay just one night while passing through from Queensland to Victoria, and I truly wish we’d booked longer. I’d say a minimum of two nights is ideal, and four would be amazing — there’s so much to explore in the region, yet simply sitting back and watching life drift by would be just as rewarding. Ben, the host, has provided absolutely everything you could want. His attention to detail and the small luxury touches are second to none. There’s another bungalow identical to Jara II a discreet distance away — close enough that two groups could book both and stay connected, yet far enough to ensure complete privacy. Down the hill beside the river is a large, flat paddock where Ben hosts campers in caravans, tents and the like. It’s an impressive spot in its own right, right next to a beautiful flowing river. While we were there, a group in canoes paddled by, taking on the gentle rapids. My wife found time to meditate on the hill, taking in the bird calls, while Ben’s cows wandered past — just as curious about us as we were about them. And the nights… oh, the nights. A sky full of stars, the kind you can only see in places like this, while sitting around a cosy fire. I’ll be dreaming about coming back to this majestic place.

We had a great stay. Yifu and his wife are super friendly, and they went the extra mile tracking me down and returning my sunglasses i had left behind - not many people would put that effort in to return something left at a campsite! We chose to skip the farm tour as we had settled in by the fire then, but Yifu gave us fresh farm eggs for breaky. Facilities are fine with toilets and somewhere to wash plates, big communal firepit. My daughter loved seeing the 2 week old goat scampering about. Next time, I would book lakeside for a little more seclusion.

Fabulous farm stay so close to canberra. Yifu was lovely, showed us around, took us on an animal tour. The site was lovely and easy to get into and out of. We walked our dogs past the geese and alpacas around his dam. Happily would stay again, such a lovely close by spot.

This was a great spot to tent camp, with an accessible, clean and beautiful site. It had toilets that were child friendly, along with a farm tour for the kids (my 5-year-old daughter loved it), and the beautiful dam had Pelicans! Will be coming again.
