Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120-acre (50-hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family. Living in our shed whilst we prepared the garden, installed watering infrastructure, and built our house, which we finally moved into when our daughter was 6 months old in 1990. Over the ensuing years, we have continued to increase biodiversity on the property and set it up so we can live sustainably, harvesting our own water, electricity, and food. If you're lucky, you could get a hamper of our product when there is sufficient in season. With the increased biodiversity, you will find that in the mornings and evenings, kangaroos and wallabies will visit with the occasional echidna, rabbi,t and hare; and to forget the large array of bird life - that may wake you early in the morning with the songs. This campsite is set on lovely grassy open areas interspersed with gum trees. The sunrise looks spectacular near the dam, when the trees give off a lovely glow. The main paddock has a Geodome, a shared space for relaxing in. With all that space, you can park and set up camp anywhere in the paddock. There is access to drinking water, toilets, and a hot shower. Around the dome is a fire pit, drinking water, and a camp kitchen. The fire pit features an Argentinian BBQ and a plate for cooking. The kitchen has plates, cups, cutlery, and other bits and pieces for you to use. We also allow your pets to stay on-site; this includes horses. If you want exclusive use of the paddocks, refer to Group Bush Retreat.

Merigan Farm

72km from Yass · 2 sites · Lodging · Mount Fairy, NSW
Merigan Farm is a 1400 Hectare (3500 acre) working sheep and cattle farm. Our family has lived at Merigan for more than 50 years. It has been a farm since the 1840s and we still run sheep and cattle in a regenerative manner, to this day. It’s a pleasure to be able to share the countryside and farm with guests. We currently offer two accommodation options: Cherry Tree - A cabin with a beautiful farm outlook. With a bookcase full of books and a fire pit for cosy evenings, it's the perfect escape. The Quarters - A private section of the old farmhouse offering rural charm and a perfectly comfortable stay. Merigan is the name of the local Parish and on Ngunawal country. It has been recounted by indigenous locals that Merigan means Dingo. The story being that Merigan fought the Bunyip and in their tussle created the rivers and creeks across the range. It’s a southern Australian Mediterranean environment with distinct seasons – it can reach over 42 degrees and in the winter its been known often to snow. Sometimes in summer the easterly sea breezes reaches over the range and the smell of sea salt cools the hot evening. Merigan offers a range of activities, to relax and settle into rural life. One of the best ways to get the feel of Merigan is just taking a walk around the property. We have 3500 acres of space to meander around and a great spots for picnics, drinks and photographs. Feel free to use the Tennis Court, balls and racquets under one of the verandas at the front of the house and the bocce court at the bottom of the garden. Bungendore, 18km away, is a thriving little country town with Galleries, gift-shops, cafés, bakeries, coffee shops and bars. The Top Pub (The Royal ) is the more casual of the hotels. The Bottom Pub (The Lake George) has a fancy restaurant attached to the more informal pub area. Braidwood is a funky Heritage town about 25km East of Bungendore and well worth a visit. It has outstanding shops and eateries and 2 pubs. The Braidwood Hotel being my favourite. Tarago is 14km away. The Loaded Dog do meals but mainly on weekends (Pizzas during the week). Best to check as it varies. Other local attractions include Lark Hill Winery, Lerida Estate Winery, Turlla Truffles and Bungendore Woodworks.

The Smallest Country In Australia

11. The Smallest Country In Australia

72km from Yass · 4 sites · Tents, RVs, Lodging · Reids Flat, NSW
Discover Atlantium - The Smallest Country in Australia! Welcome to Atlantium, a unique campsite located on a 0.76 square kilometre pastoral estate in the scenic Lachlan River valley, nestled between Crookwell and Cowra. Founded in 1981 by a group of teenagers in Sydney, Atlantium has since evolved into a global civil society organisation and micronation, boasting thousands of citizens across over a hundred countries. Atlantium is the only country you can drive to from Australia, making it a one-of-a-kind destination. Since acquiring our 200-acre pastoral estate near Reids Flat, NSW, in 2008, we've developed it as our ceremonial capital. Visitors can explore Government House (the Golden House), our post office, a pyramid, and various other monuments and buildings. Our facilities are entirely independent of the Australian power, gas, and water grids. Government House features a gas fridge, BBQ facilities, solar-powered lighting, a solar-powered induction cooktop, microwave, toaster, music system, television, and reverse-cycle air conditioning. The bathroom includes a waterless composting toilet, and an outdoor shower is also available. Additionally, Atlantium is equipped with a super-fast Starlink satellite internet service. Guests have full access to the 0.76 square kilometres (200 acres) of natural bushland within Atlantium's borders. Enjoy hiking, bird-watching, mountain bike riding, picnicking, or swimming in our unspoiled forests, fields, and lakes while taking in breathtaking views of the surrounding Australian countryside. Visit the only pyramid in Australia and several other commemorative monuments. Official Atlantium souvenirs such as stamps, coins, banknotes, postcards, and flags are available for purchase from the post office. Atlantium is located in an isolated rural area at the end of a 100-metre-long rough dirt and gravel driveway, surrounded by untamed grasslands and forests teeming with wildlife, including insects, spiders, snakes, lizards, birds, and marsupials. Summer temperatures can be extremely hot, and winters can be cold enough for occasional snow. Although Government House has reverse cycle air conditioning, please consider weather conditions if you are sensitive to temperature extremes. Electronic devices can be charged via a USB charger connected to our solar power system. Guests need to bring their own USB charger for non-Android devices.

Accommodation at Atlantium is in a modest 10 x 3m one-room cabin, offering comfortable and well-appointed facilities with new, high-standard furnishings and appliances. The cabin includes hot and cold running water, solar lights, an electric fridge/freezer, a two-hob induction cooktop, an indoor shower, and a composting toilet. Entertainment options include a television with access to streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Stan, as well as high-speed Starlink satellite internet service. Voice-over Wi-Fi calls can be made with a compatible Telstra handset when logged into our Wi-Fi network. Bedding is regularly changed and cleaned between guest visits. If needed, guests can find a supply of clean linen in the closet and clean towels in the chest of drawers. Please note, we do not provide a concierge service, baggage assistance, or transportation to local attractions or public transport hubs. We are not a hotel or motel, but rather a unique and self-sufficient camping experience. Come and experience the serenity and uniqueness of Atlantium, where you can enjoy the tranquility of nature while exploring a truly extraordinary micronation.
