Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120-acre (50-hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family. Living in our shed whilst we prepared the garden, installed watering infrastructure, and built our house, which we finally moved into when our daughter was 6 months old in 1990. Over the ensuing years, we have continued to increase biodiversity on the property and set it up so we can live sustainably, harvesting our own water, electricity, and food. If you're lucky, you could get a hamper of our product when there is sufficient in season. With the increased biodiversity, you will find that in the mornings and evenings, kangaroos and wallabies will visit with the occasional echidna, rabbi,t and hare; and to forget the large array of bird life - that may wake you early in the morning with the songs. This campsite is set on lovely grassy open areas interspersed with gum trees. The sunrise looks spectacular near the dam, when the trees give off a lovely glow. The main paddock has a Geodome, a shared space for relaxing in. With all that space, you can park and set up camp anywhere in the paddock. There is access to drinking water, toilets, and a hot shower. Around the dome is a fire pit, drinking water, and a camp kitchen. The fire pit features an Argentinian BBQ and a plate for cooking. The kitchen has plates, cups, cutlery, and other bits and pieces for you to use. We also allow your pets to stay on-site; this includes horses. It has been recounted by indigenous locals that Merigan means Dingo. The story being that Merigan fought the Bunyip and in their tussle created the rivers and creeks across the range. It’s a southern Australian Mediterranean environment with distinct seasons – it can reach over 42 degrees and in the winter its been known often to snow. Sometimes in summer the easterly sea breezes reaches over the range and the smell of sea salt cools the hot evening. Merigan offers a range of activities, to relax and settle into rural life. One of the best ways to get the feel of Merigan is just taking a walk around the property. We have 3500 acres of space to meander around and a great spots for picnics, drinks and photographs. Feel free to use the Tennis Court, balls and racquets under one of the verandas at the front of the house and the bocce court at the bottom of the garden. Bungendore, 18km away, is a thriving little country town with Galleries, gift-shops, cafés, bakeries, coffee shops and bars. The Top Pub (The Royal ) is the more casual of the hotels. The Bottom Pub (The Lake George) has a fancy restaurant attached to the more informal pub area. Braidwood is a funky Heritage town about 25km East of Bungendore and well worth a visit. It has outstanding shops and eateries and 2 pubs. The Braidwood Hotel being my favourite. Tarago is 14km away. The Loaded Dog do meals but mainly on weekends (Pizzas during the week). Best to check as it varies. Other local attractions include Lark Hill Winery, Lerida Estate Winery, Turlla Truffles and Bungendore Woodworks.

A fold-up bed is available as an extra bed, and the charge for extras per night is $30.00, to cover costs with extra laundry, cleaning etc. You will find some up-to-date magazines to relax with while here, DVDs, and complimentary chocolate. The nearest shop/food outlet is in Yass, so I advise guests to bring dinner with them or to book a home-cooked meal to be served in the BnB. Our guests have exclusive use of the swimming pool and deck with elevated views of the surrounding spectacular scenery. Feel free to wander around the garden. It has been recounted by indigenous locals that Merigan means Dingo. The story being that Merigan fought the Bunyip and in their tussle created the rivers and creeks across the range. It’s a southern Australian Mediterranean environment with distinct seasons – it can reach over 42 degrees and in the winter its been known often to snow. Sometimes in summer the easterly sea breezes reaches over the range and the smell of sea salt cools the hot evening. Merigan offers a range of activities, to relax and settle into rural life. One of the best ways to get the feel of Merigan is just taking a walk around the property. We have 3500 acres of space to meander around and a great spots for picnics, drinks and photographs. Feel free to use the Tennis Court, balls and racquets under one of the verandas at the front of the house and the bocce court at the bottom of the garden. Bungendore, 18km away, is a thriving little country town with Galleries, gift-shops, cafés, bakeries, coffee shops and bars. The Top Pub (The Royal ) is the more casual of the hotels. The Bottom Pub (The Lake George) has a fancy restaurant attached to the more informal pub area. Braidwood is a funky Heritage town about 25km East of Bungendore and well worth a visit. It has outstanding shops and eateries and 2 pubs. The Braidwood Hotel being my favourite. Tarago is 14km away. The Loaded Dog do meals but mainly on weekends (Pizzas during the week). Best to check as it varies. Other local attractions include Lark Hill Winery, Lerida Estate Winery, Turlla Truffles and Bungendore Woodworks.

Atlantium is the only country you can drive to from Australia, making it a one-of-a-kind destination. Since acquiring our 200-acre pastoral estate near Reids Flat, NSW, in 2008, we've developed it as our ceremonial capital. Visitors can explore Government House (the Golden House), our post office, a pyramid, and various other monuments and buildings. Our facilities are entirely independent of the Australian power, gas, and water grids. We are very pleased to announce that we have just installed reverse cycle heating and air conditioning for your added comfort. There are ceiling fans if required. A 'Tastic' heater is in the bathroom for extra comfort. Enjoy exclusive use of our 10m swimming pool, BBQ, and deck. We will take children, over 5 years old, who are able to swim, but would insist that parents supervise at all times. A fold-up bed is available as an extra bed, and the charge for extras per night is $30.00, to cover costs with extra laundry, cleaning etc. You will find some up-to-date magazines to relax with while here, DVDs, and complimentary chocolate. The nearest shop/food outlet is in Yass, so I advise guests to bring dinner with them or to book a home-cooked meal to be served in the BnB. Our guests have exclusive use of the swimming pool and deck with elevated views of the surrounding spectacular scenery. Feel free to wander around the garden. We endeavour to keep the pool sparkling, but cannot always guarantee perfection. No diving please, for your own safety. A BBQ is available for use on the deck. 1 night at Jarabin on the Murrumbidgee

Jara II is the ultimate rural getaway. Located about 70 km from Canberra along the Hume Highway towards Melbourne, it’s a place I can easily see becoming very popular for Canberrans looking to escape the city. We were fortunate enough to stay just one night while passing through from Queensland to Victoria, and I truly wish we’d booked longer. I’d say a minimum of two nights is ideal, and four would be amazing — there’s so much to explore in the region, yet simply sitting back and watching life drift by would be just as rewarding. Ben, the host, has provided absolutely everything you could want. His attention to detail and the small luxury touches are second to none. There’s another bungalow identical to Jara II a discreet distance away — close enough that two groups could book both and stay connected, yet far enough to ensure complete privacy. Down the hill beside the river is a large, flat paddock where Ben hosts campers in caravans, tents and the like. It’s an impressive spot in its own right, right next to a beautiful flowing river. While we were there, a group in canoes paddled by, taking on the gentle rapids. My wife found time to meditate on the hill, taking in the bird calls, while Ben’s cows wandered past — just as curious about us as we were about them. And the nights… oh, the nights. A sky full of stars, the kind you can only see in places like this, while sitting around a cosy fire. I’ll be dreaming about coming back to this majestic place.

My family of six loved staying at the teacher’s Yurt at Yurtvillage. While there was NO electricity or water - our yurt had mattresses, solar light, a kitchen and indoor fireplace to keep us warm on cold nights. We bought water from the supermarket. Mike gave us an amazing tour of his yurt farm and we loved immersing ourselves in nature. Being amongst the wildlife and farm animals on the property and meeting lovely hosts, Judith and Mike was a highlight. Certainly a weekend to remember which was fun, unique, relaxing and economical!

Shepherd's Rest is a magic little spot. We stayed in the Barn Room and it was so comfortable and cozy... Not that we were in it much! The property and amenities are awesome, so much secure space for the kids to roam, a beautiful bathroom (love the bath) and gorgeous little kitchen. The animals are very curious and friendly (especially Squashy the llama!) and our dog got on really well with Jacqui's own sweet doggo. Jacqui was an exceptional host, so friendly, helpful and accommodating. We can't wait to plan our next trip back!

It was a wonderful experience staying two nights in the van. It protected us from a cold rainy winter night. It was supposed to be feels like minus 1 degree night but we felt warm enough with extra blankets provided by Margot. My two kids made an unforgettable memory of sleeping in a van, cooking on campfire and running down the hill all day in peaceful surroundings. Loved it.
