I have a small private property with grass campsites by a tidal outlet to Port Stephens harbour. We do not offer secluded camp sites away from other people on large acreage. You can spend your days fishing, kayaking or enjoying Nelson Bay and surrounding areas and beaches which are only 15 minutes away. Guests have the use of a retreat shelter/fire place/BBQ area and wifi. Campers must try to be self contained bringing their own water, toilet and shower. Sorry, no caravans over 20ft. Suite solo travellers, couples wanting a quiet weekend and LGBT friendly. While you are on the property and if you want to be apart of any extra activities you see please don’t hesitate to ask. If you are wanting to explore and head off property and explore the local area there is an array of things to do some close and some further away. We are 40 minutes out from the heart of Hunter Valley wine country, minutes away from a few local beaches; Norah Head, Catherine Hill Bay, Soldiers Beach or Caves Beach. All have cafes or pubs close. If you are wanting to head to the bush the Watagan Mountains which are our backdrop has endless picnic spots/look outs etc where you can enjoy driving, walking, dirt/push bike tracks or if you have a specific mountain bike buzz you can head to Awaba Mountain Bike trail. If you are wanting to explore and head off property and explore the local area there is an array of things to do some close and some further away. We are 40 minutes out from the heart of Hunter Valley wine country, minutes away from a few local beaches; Norah Head, Catherine Hill Bay, Soldiers Beach or Caves Beach. All have cafes or pubs close. If you are wanting to head to the bush the Watagan Mountains which are our backdrop has endless picnic spots/look outs etc where you can enjoy driving, walking, dirt/push bike tracks or if you have a specific mountain bike buzz you can head to Awaba Mountain Bike trail. Escape the hustle and reconnect with nature at our peaceful farmstay campsite on Putty Road, nestled in the heart of rural New South Wales. Whether you’re after wide open spaces, shady creekside relaxation, or a unique countryside experience, our working farm has something for everyone. Campers can choose from two main areas: 🌿 Creekside Camping – Pitch your tent or park your van near the serene seasonal creek at the bottom of the property. After rain, the creek comes to life, offering a peaceful spot that’s perfect for unwinding. 🌾 Main Camping Area – Stay closer to our well-equipped amenities block, which features four clean toilets and two hot showers, along with access to power and water. This is a great option for those who prefer a few more comforts during their stay. Families are especially welcome here – there’s plenty of room for kids to ride non-motorised bikes, run around, make noise, and simply enjoy being kids in a safe and open space. It’s the kind of place where childhood adventures come alive. We also welcome groups – if you're interested in booking as a group, please message the host, and we can open up extra sites to accommodate you. In the evenings, gather around the fire pit under the stars – perfect for roasting marshmallows, sharing stories, or simply soaking in the peaceful sounds of the countryside. As a working farm, you’ll often see cattle, sheep, and horses grazing in nearby paddocks (and if you're staying creekside, they may even share the paddock with you), adding to the authentic rural charm. Kids and adults alike love watching the animals roam. Bring your camera, your campfire stories, and your sense of adventure – then relax under the stars. This unique slice of country life is ready to welcome you. Please note that we are currently experiencing issues with the dam retaining water. As a result, the water level is lower than usual. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Also please note there is no mobile reception at the camp ground, except for limited Telstra coverage (occasionally one bar) in some spots—perfect for a digital detox!

We had a great stay at Thompsons Campground. Arrival was very easy, and the place is comfortable, peaceful and relaxing, perfect for switching off and enjoying nature. we stayed at campsite 1 and the cow had 2 calves that were super friendly, our 2 year old loved waking up to them outside our camper and would watch them. the flushing toilet was clean and had a lizard to keep your company adding to the experience :) Lindsay was great and friendly there was a fair few campers around but the area was so large it felt like you had it to yourself. the weather was perfect and would come back again. thank you for sharing your property.

Nice rustic farm stay with friendly and helpful hosts. Beautiful views, and plenty of space. Some road noise but didn’t affect sleep. Just note the policy on fire pits which is clear in the details. Toilets were decent and clean for long drops. Shower was a bit inaccessible having to walk across a field and there being only one for all sites. But plan around that and you’ll be fine.

Carol was a great host! Very helpful and accomodating. The site was very well maintained and cared for. Nicely spaced out and not too many sites. Shaded under trees and flat with nice big fire pits. Cool to see the wallaby rescue they have on the property. Drop toilet was very convenient. Location was great, to explore new castle or the central coast. We will be back!

Wow! Such a great spot. Plenty of level spots to choose from to set up camp. We camped near the dam. A picturesque spot. Our dog loved the freedom to roam. Other families arrived and the kids enjoyed the canoes supplied to use We would have stayed longer but had to move on. Dusk and dawn the kangaroos fed from a distance. Loved it. Well be back.
