Impecable! We loved camping in Melaleuca Surfside Backpackers. Walking distance to One Mile beach and 5 mins driving to all the other beaches and bays. The facilities are spectacular and most importantly, very clean! Full of birds and other animals. I recommend this site 100%!

Great campsite in an amazing location, just a few minutes walk to One Mile. We loved the serenity with all the greenery, there is so much space to set up camp and the facilities were the best we have seen in a long time. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge for your food and a wide range of cooking utensils. We felt like we were in a little sanctuary and loved all the different birds roaming around freely. Definitely recommend and will come back :)

Loved our stay here. Amazing location, everything we wanted to experience was just 10mins away. Lots of trees and well shaded. Super clean facilities - even when there were lots of people.
Kids loved the dogs and animals around (chickens, guinea fowls ect.). Lots of families around.Would stay here again.

Bathrooms and kitchen facilities were so well taken care of and beautiful timber buildings. The camping space was so green and healthy and very easy to transport camping gear to site. LOVEEE THE ANIMALS, so very friendly and cute. Will be staying again!!!

I parked up in my van here solo for 4 nights and had the best time. The area for live in vehicles is very secluded and pleasant. I wouldn't change anything about my stay and really glad I found this site. Everyone was super helpful, very relaxed environment. I can't wait to come back and show this great spot to my friends and family. The owners have done an amazing job. Thank you

We loved Melaleuca, was a beautiful and peaceful! Toilets were pretty clean most of the time as well. The kitchen had everything you need as well. Very close to the beach.

Loved this place! We were able to have our own space, not too close to others, which was great. Excellent amenities and camp-site was not too far from the water or shops. The animals were a bit loud at night, but there’s nothing you can do about that. Overall, it was a great experience for the family. Easy access to showers, toilets, and a kitchen, and the facilities had a really nice jungle vibe. 🏕

Beautiful campground with space to spread out. There is plenty of wildlife too - kookaburras, turkeys & chooks roaming around. One Mile beach is a 5 minute walk across the road. We really enjoyed our stay here 😊

What a little slice of serene heaven this place is at the busiest time of year. The set up way it is set up makes you feel like you have space and quiet and the benefit of interacting with other campers at the fully equipped kitchen and facilities. Clean, homey and just divine escape we had. So close to the beach, coffee and bar by the beach and all the activities you want or don’t want. Such a great spot. Luved the place choose yr own site. Plenty of space. Very peaceful, relaxing, laid back place. Super clean aminities with hand soap supplied. Beautiful main building with a very well equipped kitchen with 2x Airfryers, 2x four slice toasters & electric jugs, a microwave little extras like dish washing liquid, tea towles, suger, sauces, cooking oil etc. timber tables & chairs, sofa, phone chargers supplied. Large veranda with tables chairs, a large BBQ, and a corner outdoor lounge & a large double door fridge. Trolleys to use to stack all yr camping gear in to take from yr car to yr site Excellent value for money, I ll be staying there again, if you luv camping with the beach just a short walk across the road and the conveience of supermarket, pub, cafes, servo, bottloe just 2 klms away its the place to stay

Great camp site. Short walk to beach and nice facilities. Only annoyance is owners dogs that are roaming around and poo’d next to our site twice. Fine if you don’t mind dogs and cleaning away their mess. Otherwise a great camp site.

I camped at Melaleuca Surfside Backpackers during Xmas week 2025 and absolutely loved every moment of it. The whole place has such a good, relaxed vibe — the timber deck and amenities block surrounded by tall trees make it feel like a peaceful retreat tucked away in nature. Michelle, the host, was incredibly warm and welcoming, which made the stay even better.
The camping area is fantastic: flat, spacious grass where you can pitch your tent anywhere and in any configuration you like. I’ve never seen this level of flexibility at any holiday park, and it made the experience feel so much more personal and comfortable.
The proximity to One Mile Beach was a blessing throughout our 5‑day stay. Being able to use the back gate and simply walk across the street with our beach buggy was unbelievably convenient. We explored the area, enjoyed Nelson Bay, hiked from One Mile to Fingal Bay, and even took surfing lessons — everything was so accessible.
Melaleuca Backpackers at One Mile is a perfect getaway, combining nature, convenience, and genuine hospitality. I’m already planning to book more dates in 2026. Highly recommended.

Open area with shade, close to port Stephens. Really good kitchen. Next time I would book direct at Melaleuca. Would have saved $170 for 4 nights with 4 people.

It was a nice spot, not ideal for rooftops & caravans. Was a very small area right next to the house so kinda felt like we were camping in someone’s front yard.. for tents it looked great, very open area which probably should be open for cars and caravans … we had very little room.
Great facilities, although the signs said no pets there was dogs roaming which ment heaps of dog poo and constant barking one night. 3 stars , enjoyed our stay but not what we were expecting.

I had lots of fun staying here! The camp-site was clean and kitchen facilities are very good. The staff were all very friendly and the camp-site was a 2 minute walk from the beach and a 10 minute drive from shops which was amazing!

Awesome spot! Central location and good facilities. The only downside is it’s in a bit of a rainforest so the bugs/ mozzies in summer are pretty bad, especially when camping.

We loved our time at Meleleuca Surfside Backpackers and could not recommend it more. The facilities were super clean, easily accessible and very well equipped with anything you could need. Even during the busy easter weekend we found that the facilities could easily accomodate everyone and the campsite didn't feel overcrowded at all! The location is super convenient with only a 5 minute walk to One Mile Beach and a 10 minute drive to supermarkets and shopping complexes, but still pleasantly isolated and a lovely place to relax. We were also super impressed with the sustainable principles implemented at the campsite to keep it clean and protect the natural wildlife and environment. We will be back for sure!
