La Cascina is a small property on a hill surrounded by trees and bushland. There are two main camping areas which would suite tent and small to medium van/car camping. There is access to neighbouring bushland with nice short walks available in the area. Only 20 minutes by car to Newcastle CBD, 10 minutes by car to Redhead Beach and 5 minutes by car to Lake Macquarie. La Cascina is a great spot to stop overnight on a road trip or to get away for the weekend to relax. We have no toilets so please bring your own. The access to the property is a steep sealed driveway. Site 1 is an open site with plenty of shade. The area is flat. More suited to larger camping setups. This site is less private. There is vision of the neighbouring property and an overflow campsite 50 meters away. Site 2 is a more uneven surface area which is better for smaller vans and tents. Redhead Beach is the closest dog beach 10 minutes by car. Croudace Bay is a dog park on the lake which is 5 minutes by car. This is a family owned acreage that brings the best parts of environmental living with the benefits of being close to the coast and a city. A very long time ago it was the site of a quarry. The nature has returned and we are left with a beautiful forested acreage.

Peaceful farm setting on a working horse property. Offering limited, laser levelled fully turfed sites, to allow space. The large lake is a feature of the property and abounds with bird life of many species. This campsite suits fully self sufficient campers with own drinking water and toilet/shower amenities. Pets are welcome by arrangement, especially your horses (please contact us to arrange holidaying with your dog or horse before booking). In summer you may see mumma swan and her baby cygnets, as well as lots of ducklings. Drop in your paddle board or kayak for a leisurely paddle. Take a relaxed stroll around the property and depending on the season you might spy a wylie fox or a turtle laying eggs. Deer occasionally visit and echidnas and wombats, although nocturnal animals sometimes are a precious sight. The site contains van parking, an open pavilion, an open deck by the stream, a fire pit, and a dunny. It is private and secluded, and with just one group staying at a time, you are guaranteed the space to yourselves. Please go straight ahead on Collins Ave and enter through the car entrance, NOT the truck entrance which is off to the right. If you come in the truck entrance I can't see you. There are many beautiful walking and bike trails in the area. Lots of wildlife to meet, including water dragons, wild ducks, and pythons, to name a few. There is also nearby evidence of the original occupants, the Darkinjung people. You are also welcome to bring a couple of horses! There's a safe paddock with a trough and nice trails in the area to explore. The Kulnura General Store and bottleshop is just 9km down the road for basic supplies.

Jaime and Nathan are honestly some of the nicest people you’ll meet. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel right at home. The campsite itself is awesome—huge spaces for tents and plenty of room for the kids to roam. The café has seriously good coffee (a lifesaver for parents!), and everyone we met was so helpful and friendly. The kids loved the tractor ride and meeting the farm animals—it’s the kind of simple joy that makes camping special. There’s even a sandpit where the kids played for two hours (which gave me a chance to doze off :) ). They said they wanted to stay there forever!

The rates are reasonable and the sites are wide. Firepits, shower and toilets available. There is a cafe open during our stay plus fruits that we can freely pick and eat (just be reasonable in the amount you take) there are friendly farm animals that you can join in feeding them in the morning. Great for families and friends looking for something fun, close to Sydney activities. Only downside is if it is hot, there isn’t any shade so prepare your own shelter, and only 1 shower is available.

Cranky Rock was the perfect quick weekend get away. Far enough away from the city but close enough that you can duck back to Cessnock if needed. We snagged the ideal spot in camp with dappled shade throughout the day. Although the toilets are non flushing they are clean and accessible. Pam came to check on us when we arrived and other than that we were left to enjoy the peace and quiet.

Beautiful campsite with plenty of shaded areas. A lovely forest at the back of the property to wander around in. Also the location of the Bunyip gives easy access to the national parks in the area. Lisa is easy going and very helpful. The amenities are in my view to rustic. Definitely worth staying a few nights.

We had a fantastic time at Whispering Gums. There’s lots of space between camping spots and most of them have some cover under trees. It’s right next to the beautiful Colo River which had varied levels of water depth that has good areas for small dogs and kids. Toilets are nice and clean. The firepits were a good size and we got value purchasing the firewood and kindling. Make sure you follow their provided directions on getting there. There’s a big difference in road quality between the two possible routes!

This would also be a perfect place for those who may live close to Sydney, needing to do a shake down trip to get familiar with their new caravan bur who could also benefit from being close to shops to get any supplies. Such a great little getaway! Hard to believe it’s only an hour from Sydney. The campground is super spacious and really quiet, and being in the middle of a fruit orchard made it feel extra peaceful. Loved waking up and walking over to the café for a morning coffee. The farm animals were cute, and fruit picking was a fun bonus. The only downside was the bathrooms—they need a bit of TLC and they’re a fair walk from the campsites, which isn’t ideal at night. But overall, we had a great stay and would definitely come back!

I had a really enjoyable stay at Canoelands orchard camping. There were lots of animals on the property, which made the experience really fun and unique. We also loved that there were fruit-picking opportunities right on-site. Another highlight was the café – being able to grab a fresh coffee in the morning was such a nice touch.
