We looked for alternative ways of living 6 years ago so we purchased 220 acres to build an off grid camping/eco resort. The property consists of a straw bale house, Tipis, Cottages, 5 stars shared facilities (hot showers, flushing toilets - disable toilet ), outdoor kitchen (gas bbq, pizza oven, all kitchen utensils, pots ), solar system and worm farm septic system. Here you can discover amazing wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, cockatoos, lyre birds and a lot of other birds (designated bird drinking stations through a WIRES program which has a lot of success.) Bring a camera and take in the incredible sights such as wildlife, cliffs, caves, and a magical view of Mount Yengo and Moruben from the top of the property. They are designated walking tracks around the property with all variable lengths & difficulties. Swimming pool, water hole to cool down in summer Pets friendly Access all-wheel drive Events possible Please enjoy some of the reviews our previous guests have left for us: "Wanderlust has a beautiful hidden valley and thanks for sharing with us. Escape the hustle and reconnect with nature at our peaceful farmstay campsite on Putty Road, nestled in the heart of rural New South Wales. Whether you’re after wide open spaces, shady creekside relaxation, or a unique countryside experience, our working farm has something for everyone. Campers can choose from two main areas: 🌿 Creekside Camping – Pitch your tent or park your van near the serene seasonal creek at the bottom of the property. After rain, the creek comes to life, offering a peaceful spot that’s perfect for unwinding. 🌾 Main Camping Area – Stay closer to our well-equipped amenities block, which features four clean toilets and two hot showers, along with access to power and water. This is a great option for those who prefer a few more comforts during their stay. Families are especially welcome here – there’s plenty of room for kids to ride non-motorised bikes, run around, make noise, and simply enjoy being kids in a safe and open space. It’s the kind of place where childhood adventures come alive. We also have a bike track and playground to keep the kids entertained while you sit back and relax. We also welcome groups – if you're interested in booking as a group, please message the host, and we can open up extra sites to accommodate you. In the evenings, gather around the fire pit under the stars – perfect for roasting marshmallows, sharing stories, or simply soaking in the peaceful sounds of the countryside. Small campfires in the above-ground fire pits provided are permitted. During the Fire Danger Period fires are generally permitted for cooking, heating or recreation. Please note that campfires are not permitted on Total Fire Ban days, so it's important to check conditions before lighting one. As a working farm, you’ll often see cattle, sheep, and horses grazing in nearby paddocks (and if you're staying creekside, they may even share the paddock with you), adding to the authentic rural charm. Kids and adults alike love watching the animals roam. Bring your camera, your campfire stories, and your sense of adventure – then relax under the stars. This unique slice of country life is ready to welcome you. Please note there is no mobile reception at the camp ground, except for limited Telstra coverage (occasionally one bar) in some spots—perfect for a digital detox!

Kawalang is nestled on 100 acres of stunning bushland on Wonnarua Country, in the midst of the Watagan Forest in the Lower Hunter Valley. We’re just 1.5 hours from Sydney and Newcastle, and 45 minutes from the Central Coast. Nearby, you’ll find the Yengo Lookout and Rock Platform with remarkable Indigenous art, as well as wineries, horse farms, and the historic villages of Wollombi and Laguna. We grow food organically — from citrus, figs, and quinces to pears, mulberries, elderberries, finger limes, feijoas, garlic, vegetables, and greens — and strive to live sustainably. We keep waste to a minimum by composting food scraps and reducing plastic use. Most of our energy comes from solar panels, while rainwater collected in filtered tanks provides our water supply. An electric car charger is available for visitors to support their journey around the Valley. We live in harmony with the wildlife here — wombats, wallabies, possums, bandicoots, kookaburras, cockatoos, and more. On walks down to the bottom field, you’ll pass striking cliffs and rock formations, and discover a private valley with a meandering creek to explore and enjoy. We are about an hour from an exquisite lookout toward Big Yengo, a sacred mountain as significant to Aboriginal people in this region as Uluru is in Central Australia. For thousands of years, Aboriginal communities have gathered on this mountain. The area offers rock carvings, walking tracks, and campsites to explore. The name Kawalang was gifted to us by Aniwan Gamilaroi Wonnarua Elder Uncle Bill Smith. It means “abundance” in language, acknowledging the spirit of the land and the food and joy it brings.
