Rosebrook River Camp gives you your own private retreat, far away from the crowds but only a few minutes from the beating heart of the Hunter Valley.
Our property is situated in the locality of Rosebrook, a fertile area steeped in a rich dairying history. We're only 10 minutes from Maitland and 25 minutes from the Vineyards, but the privacy of the camp site makes it feel like you're miles from anywhere. You've got direct access to the Hunter River with a sandy beach, great swimming holes and it's perfect for a peaceful kayak up or down stream, dependent on river levels at the time of your stay. Bring your own kayak or use ours for a small fee.
For those a bit more adventurous, we take you via road to our drop off point and you paddle downstream (a leisurely 3 hours) until you arrive at the beach near your campsite. There are heaps of places to stop and have some lunch and a swim on the way.
The site is a drive through level, grassy area and easily accessed by 2WD vehicle if you're not towing. For caravans and camper trailers, a 4WD is recommended but it's pretty easy going.
Pets are welcome, but MUST stay within the site paddock if not on a lead. Our neighbours have stock and it's important we are always respectful toward them.
A garbage bin and recycle bin is provided but you will need your own toilet. There is a designated area for a fire (when conditions permit) and we can supply firewood if required for a small fee.
We’ve kept things simple and natural because that’s the way we like it. It’s a true bush camp — plenty of space, plenty of privacy, and no fuss. We just ask that everyone who stays treats the place with respect and leaves it as they found it, so the next campers can enjoy it too.
Whether you’re here for a quiet weekend, a bit of fishing, or just to switch off from the world for a while, this is the place to do it.
So come on out, take a deep breath, and slow down for a few days. You’ll soon see why we love it here and why it’s hard to leave once you’ve settled in.

Had a great stay at Mick’s place. Awesome setting with easy access to the river and all to yourself. My dogs loved it. The cows and their calves were entertaining to watch while having a cuppa! It was lovely to meet Mick. He is an excellent host, friendly and great communicator. Made us feel very welcome.

We loved camping at the old house behind the pub. It was so close to everything in Wollombi and yet so quiet. We had a lovely shady spot on the grass above the creek we fell asleep listening to crickets chirping and babbling water. It was a long weekend and we were the only ones there!!! Shame it wasn't cold enough for a fire. 10 out of 10.

We loved staying at Ironbark Down. The location is very convenient for visiting the Hunter Valley. The campsite is huge and quiet. We enjoyed the chill vibes at night and even saw shooting stars. It was amazing.

Beautiful, well maintained area close to the river. Stunning views and very close to cows which are amazing to watch. Mick was very kind and a wonderful host.
We hired the kayaks and whilst the river was too low, we still had a great time.

Had an an amazing time camping at Rose Brook river camp. Would highly recommend this site for anyone wanting a bush get away but with the option of popping to town if needed as Maitland was only a 20 minute drive. The site was easy to get to. Mick (our host) was more than accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for him. The site was freshly mowed and well maintained. The river was right near by and a welcome relief from the weather. The kids loved seeing all the wild life around, especially the pelicans that would fly by every night and the cows greeting us in the morning.

Good flat site for easy camping. Access is via fire trail, and would recommend only 4wd access, especially in rainy conditions. Plenty of tinder and firewood was available, but we didn’t need to use it.

Sonia was lovely to deal with and very prompt communication. Really peaceful, rustic bush setting, and welcoming of dogs.
Facilities currently very basic, and road in had culverts that would be an issue for low vehicles or large vans, but was fine for our 14 foot set up.
