If travelling in a 2wd please contact us before booking, some of the campgrounds have to be reached by crossing the creeks, Girard camp is one of them where the office and the showers are, at times this crossing is under water and is only accessible by 4wd. Other campgrounds are available near the entry gate that don't require a creek crossing for access and toilets are available on some of them. One side of the property is bound by Emu Creek and the other by Girard Creek, both creeks have enough water with some permanent deep water holes for all year activities. Sightseeing inside the property we have Girard Falls, a 50m deep waterfall, nature at it's best. The only entry into the property is by Emu Creek Rd a gravel road. Emu Creek Retreat is located in the far north-east of New South Wales. We are approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast, 150km from Byron Bay. Tabulam is the nearest town 12km away. Fuel and groceries are available at Tabulam along with a post office, pub and police station. Casino is 68km away and Tenterfield 78km. Once a working cattle property, in the 90's was converted into a camping and 4WD park. Since 2017 has been a family own and operated property, pet friendly, we are using the existing large camping grounds to convert it into a camping paradise. Two properties combined with close to 2800 acres, fronting Paddy’s Flat Rd for 2km and extends 7km to the back fence bordering a 22000 acre cattle property. Dunoon village is cute yet, very practical. There is a general store, bottle shop and they sell ice, Mechanic, Post Office and the best bit, you can even go out for dinner or lunch depending on the day, at the Dunoon Sports Club/ Pub or Channon Tavern, then head back to your secluded country camp and cool off in the beautiful creek or warm up and enjoy some quality time around the camp fire!

The local hospital is in Byron 15 minute drive away. A toilet is completed. We have had a celebrity stay for a weekend so you never know who you will see. Once at the top, it's yours to live in peace and quiet. 56 acres of undulating hills covered with native bush land, with 10 cleared sites for you to set up camp. If you like an adventure then this mountain is for you. 2 sites called "Top of the world tent site 1 and tent site 2" are accessible by 4WD only (tent camping is advised) There is a step 19 degree road up to the penthouse summit thats at 1000ft. However if it is dry you can tow a camping trailer but only if you have a winch. If it rains the only way down is backwards tethered to trees via your winch. It's an adventure. Campers are welcome to have a campfire, there is plenty of timber on the ground that you can collect or bring your own. As long as there is no fire ban. There are some great bush walks you can enjoy, including down to the creek (about a 40 min walk). The creek is picturesque with lemon trees and peach trees along the edge while in season. There are 2 sites down at the creek called Firefly's and platypus and these are for off road self contained 4x4 campers and those with a tent. The creek is pristine and crystal clear unless it's raining. These 2 sites are absolutely private if you book them both. If you don't mind sharing the creek with another camper then you only need to book 1 site. There is also a 10 month of the year 30 metre high waterfall (depending on rain fall this waterfall can vary from massive water to slow water) and another seasonal waterfall. Don't forget the dam for swimming with the spa tub and fresh mountain spring water constantly flowing into it from an inch and a half poly pipe constantly overflowing into the dam. The water in the creek is safe to drink with no filter needed. The creek is running and crystal clear and very private. If you are in a 2 wheel drive RV/ Motorhome you can book the "Paw Paw hill site" or "a dam good view" There is one site that is all grass accessible in the dry weather. Plenty of drinking water is also available at all sites either via a tap or the creek running water. All campers MUST HAVE their own portable toilet. If no portable toilet you can purchase one from many camping stores at a reasonable price before coming. Doing number 2 in the bush is totally unacceptable. Because this is a leave no trace camp site we do ask you to take all trash with you when you leave as well. There is no council rubbish collection in this area. We respect our beautiful paradise and we know you will appreciate it also. If you make a fire please leave it so I can mow around it once you leave. E.G Please remove all sticks.

A beautiful piece of remnant forest on the bank of the Nerang River, with a swimming hole that is second to none. The tree tent is situated in a small forest clearing overlooking the river rapids. The site has a compact outdoor kitchen complete with refrigerator, an outdoor hot shower, a firepit and a separate composting toilet. Sails are rigged above the tent to provide extra shade and shelter. It's private and shady but only a few minutes from the house. The valley is a gem, only 200 odd people live here. If you love the outdoors - either just to chill or to actively recreate - this place is for you. As an outdoor educator, I have worked and played in the valley and surrounds for more than 25 years and I'm still discovering new things to see and do! Advancetown Lake is a short drive away with paddling, sailing and fishing and no power boats or jetskis (Yeeha!!) There is a mountain bike park on the E side of the dam. You can walk from here to Springbrook and Lamington National Parks and the glow worms at Natural Bridge are a night time "must see".

A beautiful piece of remnant forest on the bank of the Nerang River, with a swimming hole that is second to none. The tree tent is situated in a small forest clearing overlooking the river rapids. The site has a compact outdoor kitchen complete with refrigerator, an outdoor hot shower, a firepit and a separate composting toilet. Sails are rigged above the tent to provide extra shade and shelter. It's private and shady but only a few minutes from the house. The valley is a gem, only 200 odd people live here. If you love the outdoors - either just to chill or to actively recreate - this place is for you. As an outdoor educator, I have worked and played in the valley and surrounds for more than 25 years and I'm still discovering new things to see and do! Advancetown Lake is a short drive away with paddling, sailing and fishing and no power boats or jetskis (Yeeha!!) There is a mountain bike park on the E side of the dam. You can walk from here to Springbrook and Lamington National Parks and the glow worms at Natural Bridge are a night time "must see".

Nestled under the gaze of Mt Barney and Mt Maroon, this Land for Wildlife registered property is perfect for anyone wanting a quiet, peaceful and beautiful base for their time away. If mountain climbing is your thing then this is the place to be, with the Scenic Rim's mountains no more than an hour away. Koalas, Wallabies, Wedge Tailed Eagles, birds of all sorts, a babbling brook and still close to the great Shed Cafe. Art classes are possible 10 minutes away at Frog Hollow. Swimming at the Lower Portals is a 15 minute drive and a walk. A drink at the Rathdowney Pub or a 45 minute drive to the Scenic Rim Brewery. Boonah and it's great cafes, is only a 40 minutes drive. This area is fabulous for checking out the scenery and it's not far to the Lions Road. Ideal for family groups. There is no to patchy internet / mobile coverage on the property. If there is an emergency we have a landline.

Everything was genuinely amazing - the natural beauty (WOW), the peace and quiet, the space at each site, the space between each site, cleanliness.. everything! Busting at the seams to get back!

What an incredible spot! Absolutely blown away by Kristy and Dan’s property. The instructions to find the property were easy and clear. Upon arriving we descended down a short but steep 4wd track to enter the lower area where the river runs through. It’s a beautiful open bush space and campers are very spread out so you do not see your neighbour at all! We had the Byron site which was just paradise. River frontage for endless dips and river floats all day long. Camp fires by night under the moon. If you have the opportunity you must add the fire heated bath to your booking. It was amazing bathing under the sunset and moonlight. A truly special place. We will be back! Thank you :)

Weekend Trip to Eagles Nest Hideaway, Pecan Fields

Pecan waterhole was a beautiful campsite. Lots of firewood around and easy to collect. The creek was lovely to cool off in the hot weather. We enjoyed paddling the kayaks and exploring the shallow rocky areas. We were lucky enough to see 3 platypus! A very special experience. The directions provided were clear. We found our site easily. The toilet was well equipped. It handled the busy campsite over the long weekend quite well. The sites are large and quite well separated, so we weren’t too close to our neighbours. It was a full moon during our trip - so beautiful to see the pecan trees lit up in the moonlight! The green leafy outlook and the gentle sound of the creek flowing made this a really special experience. Thanks for sharing your beautiful part of the world with us, Robyn! :)

Weekend Trip to Top of the World

Alan is an enthusiastic hose that was very welcoming upon our arrival. He took us out to the site and made sure everything was addressed and we had the info to ensure our stay was positive. This site is a great example of someone putting in the time to make is a positive experience. The campsite was large, grassed and mowed, the track in was definitely more suitable for a 4x4 and in the wet it would be fairly demanding even if not towing a van. As it was dry we had no issues. The small creek nearby was nice, it was good to explore and check out the three stage waterfall. The kids had fun in the upper section playing around. We walked to the Top of the World campsite and it was also a cracking spot. If you want a very quiet, to peaceful totally off grid experience this is a great spot to go to. It's not far from Kyogle which has fuel and an IGA if you forget anything. All up, I'd come back again. It's good value and I appreciate Alan sharing his land with the public. It's a great spot. Beautiful spot and super lovely host. It was a long weekend and there were other campers there but we had a lot of privacy. The owner helped us find a flat spot for our van and allowed us to collect firewood from around the property (there is lots around!) Our dog loved swimming in the river (a bit of an adventure to get down to it but so worth it- just maybe don’t attempt after a rain). We loved soaking in the serenity and watching the stars.

The small, quiet town was so pretty and charming. It was convenient too — just a few minutes’ walk to a local pub for a meal and a grocery store nearby. The campground’s toilets and showers were clean and well-maintained. It was nice to find such a peaceful place close to Brisbane where we could relax and spend a comfortable night.
