The peace and tranquillity and spectacular scenery make this the ideal place to relax and unwind or the perfect spot to base yourself while you explore everything the Tweed Shire and the Northern Rivers Region has to offer.
On arrival you get to choose your own unpowered spot. You then set up camp. The caretaker will check you in at the spot you have chosen towards the end of the day.
Misty Mountain Campgrounds is suitable for tent campers, caravans, camper trailers and motorhomes..
PLEASE NOTE - Children aged between 3 and 15 are booked under Child Rates, Children 2 and under are Free and do not have to be booked in.

Rainforest Gateway is located approximately 8klms along Grady's Creek Road, just 20 klms north of Kyogle and 15 klms from the Queensland border on the popular scenic tourist route, Lions Road. Kyogle is a bustling town with an IGA supermarket, MTB riding tracks, lovely gift shops, cinema, bowling alley, and a selection of dining outlets. For those wanting to immerse themselves in nature, the Border Ranges National Park is a short drive away.
Please note Lions Road is temporarily closed for road repairs and expected to be reopened late January 2026. We can still be reached on Gradys Creek Road off Summerland Way, ignore Google maps if it directs you to Lynches Creek Rd.

Definitely recommend visiting Misty Mountain hipcamp. We stayed in a tent, found a nice quiet corner where we could relax and enjoy the scenery. The amenties were rustic ehich we found added to the atmosphere. Plenty of activities for the family to do from swimming, riding, hiking, games in the facilities room. Cafe on site for the all important morning coffee plus hot food.

Rain Forest Gateway is a beautifully set out camp site with plenty of nature care and pride put into the place. Close to Boarder Rangers National Park which has plenty of walking trails and look out points (mostly mental road) Peter, Jannine and camp staff are awesome Viki was on when we stayed, she was so helpful, making sure our firewood is stocked up, and we were happy with everything, BIG camp kitchen, showers and flushing toilets all kept very clean. Absolutely enjoyed our time here and will be back again soon.
Highly recommend this camp site to anyone.

Rainforest Gateway is a beautiful location and we had such a special time here. It’s not too crowded, well-kept amenities, friendly care takers, not too far away from Kyogle for supplies, lovely stream to cool off and so close to the magnificent Border Rangers NP. I recommend this place despite not having the best camping experience, but I realise it was due mostly to my set up and the weather, so definitely not Peter's fault. I rocked up in a 2WD in the rain and the roads inside the campsite were pretty rough. I drove past the amenities area and there was no safe parking for 2WD so I decided to do without and go to camp area 4, which in my opinion is the most beautiful. I camped near the dam. The views from the top are stunning and I appreciate the fact that each area has its own shower and toilet. There are also some shelters but unfortunately all taken when I arrived (fairly late, around 5pm). I imagine the place must be stunning when sunny, unfortunately I did not dare to explore it in the rain, I left early in the morning. Again, nothing to do with the campsite but if you are in a 2WD and sleep in it, it might not be the best place if it's wet. When leaving in the morning, I saw plenty of wallabies. I will try to go back in a different car and in different weather!

Overall the site was in good condition. & a nice spot next to a river which you can swim in if you wish.
We would happily go again to this site.
Only complaint would be that the portaloo provided was “full” & had no water in it to flush or was hands etc..
It was not nice to go in the toilet as there was other peoples “mess” that can be seen as soon as you opened the door..
Despite that, was a great site, and had no dramas. Stafff were polite and helpful too !

Camping at the Showground totally exceeded my expectations! Setting is beautiful and serene - green mountains, cows wandering.
Amenities block was like new - spotlessly clean, hot showers, spacious.
Camp kitchen was large and rustic style with all the essentials.
Spectacular little town with the Tyalgum hotel within walking distance for a feed. All the little local stores are beautiful and quaint which adds to the charm of this area.

We loved our stay at Tyalgum campground. I stayed with my adult family in a motorhome, tent and 2 swags and a dog. It was a perfect stay and so reasonably priced. The view was gorgeous, we loved the sound of cows nearby, walked to the river for a swim and the amenities are new and very nice. I loved how they space everyone out so we are not on top of each other. It's a magnificent part of the world. We’ll definitely be back!!!
