Edge Of The Waters

2 sites · RVs1 acre · Port Bolivar, TX
NOTE for February through April / May: The canals are being dredged. This is much needed maintenance for the neighborhood but does present an inconvenience. You can still fish from our dock, but the fishing areas at the end of the street are closed for the duration of the construction work. They have finished work on the part of the canal behind our spot. If I learn anything else I will update this. Waterfront RV Port on Bolivar Peninsula. Water, sewer, and electric (20-30-50 amp panel) Covered RV spot with a screen porch. Property is fenced and dogs are welcome. The screened has a dining table with chairs, and also stores some patio chairs to use on the property. They are really great to sit on the dock! There is also a charcoal grill and a crab trap for you to use. (You need a fishing license and bait. Chicken bones works great!) Plenty of birding and fishing on the peninsula. Community fishing area is on the end of both Van Sant and Mabry, Mabry has a boat ramp. Beach Access via community gate at end of street. Combination for those will be shared in arrival instructions. Spot is a residential lot... It is 60 x 130. Canal City is a quiet residential area. The back side fronts on the water. You will probably see more seagulls and purple martins than people. We have weekly discounts. Message me and I can go over them because the Hipcamp platform makes them difficult. It works out to approximately 7 nights for the price of 5. Be prepared: Bolivar has mosquitoes. This is the coast. If it has rained they can be really bad. The county sprays on a regular rotation but it can be bad. They tend to swarm when you pull in. Spray helps. We also send recommendations for what sprays work best for us in the arrival instructions. We do not offer refunds for mosquitoes. We have never found them unmanageable, and the screen porch keeps them almost entirely away. We are east of Rollover Pass. Easiest to arrive through Winnie and south on 124. Unless you are coming from Galveston or southeast Houston it is probably shorter. The ferry is fun (dolphins and such) but the waits can be long. Also: Do not bring loose propane tanks or gasoline cans on the ferry, they will send you away. (Propane on RV is fine, but that is all they allow) https://www.txdot.gov/discover/ferry-boat-schedules/ferry-rules.html

The best camping near Sea Rim State Park guide

Overview

About

Let the wild beaches and wildlife-filled wetlands tempt you to Texas’ far southeast corner at Sea Rim State Park. Swim, fish, or camp along the Gulf Coast beaches, saddle up for a horseback ride along the sand, or admire the views from the coastal boardwalks. Inland, enjoy bird-watching and saltwater fishing at the lakes and lagoons, launch your canoe or kayak along the waterways, or follow one of the graded paddling trails around the marshes. RV sites and cabins are available, but if you’re feeling adventurous, why not pitch your tent right on the beach?

Notable campgrounds

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve campsites at all of the park’s campgrounds and cabins in advance via the Texas State Parks website.
  2. Campsite reservations open five months in advance.
  3. Campsites can book up as fast for summer and holiday weekends—book as early as possible, especially for Piping Plover.

When to go

Sea Rim State Park is open year-round, but the busiest season is from April through July. Beach conditions vary, but it’s often warm enough to swim from April through October, and beach camping is most pleasant during this period. Bird-watching is popular throughout the year, but sightings are most common during the spring migration.

Know before you go

  • Sea Rim State Park is located 45 miles south of Beaumont or about a 50-minute drive away.
  • Park entrance fees are required in addition to camping fees, and general entrance reservations can be made up to one month in advance.
  • Facilities in the park include restrooms, picnic and day-use areas, a boat ramp, and kayak launch ramps. You can rent kayaks, canoes, and fishing gear within the park, or bring your own. Equestrian camping is also possible, but you must bring your own corrals or tethers.
  • You can fish along the coast and marshes—fishing licenses are not required if fishing from the shore. However, daily bag limits are in place.
  • Alligators are common in the park. Swim only in designated areas and never swim after sunset.
  • There are accessible restrooms and boardwalks at Sea State Park.
