Welcome to our little piece of paradise! 50 acres of oak and elm woods with a network of trails that criss-cross the creek and wind throughout the property under the peaceful canopy of beautiful trees. Don't be surprised if you run into deer, raccoons, or roadrunners! Our property is home to a wide variety of hill-country wildlife and you are almost guaranteed to see them at some point. Some of our sites are well developed and you can drive right up and pitch your tent near a large fire ring and bbq grill. Other sites on the property are "hike-in" only and you'll need to carry everything in with you from the road. When you check in, your host can help you find your campsite.
Our two primary campsites are private and surrounded by forest, but connected by a 50' path through the trees for easy connections if you're camping with a large group of more than 10 people.
Deeper in the property we have several campsites that are far more secluded and offer extreme privacy in the most beautiful settings we have to offer. If you're looking for a wilder campsite surrounded by huge old trees and and all the peace the woods have to offer, just request The Sisters (two ancient live-oak), or China-Berry Meadow.

The vibe at Braun Oaks Campground
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The Braun Oaks Campground in Helotes, TX is a little gem hidden right outside of San Antonio, TX just half a mile off of the main loop. When you come in, you immediately see a couple of more developed campsites fire rings and log seating, but if you go further into the quieter part of the property, you find other more primitive sites with the perk of getting to bring your car! The campsites closer to the entrance had a little more traffic noise than the back of the property.
I came with a group of 5 less experienced campers, so we chose a more developed site close to the entrance where the restroom facility is located. We set up camp, started a fire, and then spent about an hour putting our vehicle in 4WD and exploring the property. James has clearly taken time to make his land fun for dirt bikes and 4-wheelers as there were lots of cool jumps on his many trails that we really enjoyed! You can tell that James really prides himself in his little piece of paradise close to the city. His property was well maintained and pocketed all through out the property, you could find little collections of things like fencing, logs, and tires that gave us the impression that he had in mind to create something with all of it.
We saw rabbits, armadillos, and tons of birds on the property. At night we fell asleep to the sounds of crickets, rain drops falling, and the faint sound of traffic in the distance, which was worth it to us to be 10 minutes from Government Canyon Natural Area, Sea World, La Cantera Mall, Six Flags, and pretty much any restaurant, coffee shop, or San Antonio style raspa stand your heart could desire.
I highly recommend spending a night or two at Braun Oaks Campground!
Great location and fantastic staff! I saw 4 deer come through my campsite right around sunset! James helped me build a fire ring, let me use their spare hammock, and even let me borrow his nice lantern because I forgot mine. I would rate my experience a 10/10 and will definitely try to make my way back!
We loved it! A great location, beautiful secluded property but still close to town. Short Uber ride to Floores music venue. The trails are great for biking and hiking. What a great escape from the RV parks. We were able to dry camp with our 20 ft travel trailer so awesome!!!!
