Experience upscale camping–Glamping in the Forested Hills of Lake Superior. Sailor Springs is a small three-site campground located just two miles outside of the picturesque tourist town of Bayfield, WI. 2023 will be our first year of operation and we’re excited to host campers on the property and provide a unique camping experience.
The campground is spread out over 5 acres of forest that you’ll hike into from Bresette Hill Road. After parking at the trailhead, you’ll gather your bags and hike into your glamping site. The trail winds through the woods, leading you first to a valley where the seasonal Clark Creek runs through in the spring. The first two campsites are on the other side of this valley. The trail can be steep in spots and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility to reach the secluded campsites. The third site is a bit farther into the forest, the little A-frame cabin, Anchor sits on the edge of the spring-fed Brickyard Creek that flows year-round.
We have many plans for the property and depending on when you stay, the campground will be in various stages of development. The campsites, trailhead / parking area, and trails are scheduled to be completed in early spring. We hope to add amenities such as a camp sauna and screened-in gazebo later in the 2024 summer / fall. Great location for the bike trails. That is the main reason for our visit and the trailhead was right across the street. The host was easy to communicate with and quick to respond. The screened in porch was fantastic for playing cards at night, relaxing with no bugs!

We had an amazing time at the Anchor. The hike in and hike out was so fun! It was our dogs first ever camping experience and she had a blast. Also the porta potties are the cleanest I have ever been in. We will be back to try out the other camps!

Very welcoming place to spend time in the woods. My wife and I spent a few days up here for our wedding anniversary and it was wonderful! Isabelle left a wonderful note and flowers for us and The yurt was awesome! Definitely home away from home. Everything you need and the sauna was incredible. The only thing to be aware of is that you can hear a lot of the traffic from the main road that is not far from the retreat.

A magical little yurt village nestled in between the trees was the perfect getaway for a sister’s weekend. We had everything we needed from cooling to heating options to make s’mores fires and loosing track of time in the sauna. You can tell that the details really matter to the owner. This place is very clean and simply ready for any occasion. I hope that when someone finds this listing they don’t think twice about staying here! I promise you won’t think twice about returning once you go visit!

Directions were clear. Property and yurt was beautiful and very clean!!! Host was very attentive accommodating and friendly!! We did not have grilling utensils and I just sent a text and Isabelle brought them right to us right away! This trust had everything I needed for a much needed relaxing weekend. I even ready two books that were provided inside the yurt! Unfortunately I did not get to enjoy sauna due to husband wanting to go to the bike festivities. I will be rebooking next year for a girls weekend! Highly recommend this cute little yurt ❤️

We would definitely stay here again! The camper was great. It was well stocked with everything you need for a stay and the beds were comfortable (they had a soft memory foam topper on the mattress that I loved). Having a recliner was also great as well. The camper had A/C for hot days and space heaters for cool nights. It had a coffee maker, blender, fridge, freezer (that all worked well). We also had warm water for a comfortable shower. It was our first time staying in a camper and Alyssa was very responsive/helpful with any questions.
The area seemed really safe and the location is great to many different destinations. It is located just off a major road (convenient) but not many cars drive by (pretty quiet). It's about 30 minutes to the east end of the Porkies, 45 minutes to Agate Beach, and an hour to Houghton. There are good and inexpensive food options locally on Ontonagon that stay open late after a day of adventure.
Due to previous campers not cleaning up well, they now charge a modest cleaning fee but it was nice to just do and light clean and go upon checkout instead of a deep clean.
If you are looking for great option in the Ontonogan region, this is the place.

We absolutely loved this site. The outdoor shower was a highlight—peaceful, refreshing, and a perfect way to enjoy the natural setting. The campfire being right next to the tent made evenings feel extra special. The tent itself was spacious and thoughtfully set up, with a super comfy bed that made for great sleep. The structure around the tent—including the decking underneath and the metal roof—really added to our sense of safety and comfort, especially when a gnarly storm rolled through. Everything held up beautifully, and we felt secure and dry the whole time.
Abe was awesome to work with! We had one site booked for a night and another for two nights, and he made the transition between them incredibly easy. He also checked in on us after a storm passed through and stayed responsive via the app whenever we had questions. You can tell he really cares about making sure campers have a good experience. Exactly what we were looking for—very remote, peaceful, and private. The hike to the site was clearly communicated in advance, so we were prepared, but it was moderately challenging, especially with gear. The hill down to the fire pit was a little tricky when the dirt was wet, but the beautiful, secluded setting made it well worth the effort. The cabin was spotless, super cozy, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Abe was awesome to work with! We had one site booked for a night and another for two nights, and he made the transition between them incredibly easy. He also checked in on us after a storm passed through and stayed responsive via the app whenever we had questions. You can tell he really cares about making sure campers have a good experience. Porcupine Mountains Union Bay Campground
Definitely buggy this time of year but if you can snag a spot right next to the lake shore it helps blow some of them away! The water fill ups and showers were a major boon and we loved our stay. It’s a popular site with lots of campers but everyone was super polite and kind. We’ll be back!

Excellent hiking trails, location and just a beautiful park. Five different campgrounds from which to choose, along with backcountry sites and cabins. Right on the shore of Lake Superior, this park is an absolute gem and a wonderful place to visit. Waterfalls galore, interpretive trails, excellent visitor center and great facilities. Union Bay Campground has amenities and electric, Presque Isle (My Fave if not backpacking) is rustic as well as the three outposts.
Something for everyone here. GO!

Presque Isle is an excellent campground, and by far superior to Union Bay if you're also considering that one. The facilities are clean, the hike-in spots are somewhat secluded, and the grounds manager was incredibly helpful for providing recommendations. The campground is in a great location, just a short hike from the Presque Isle river which is full of awesome waterfalls. I would definitely recommend this site.

I've camped here twice and can not tell you how much I love it. Plenty of campsites and as private as you want to be. Loved watching the stars at night and hear the waves of Lake Superior. Wonderful place to visit.

Lots of RV's and the sites really close together, however you can see the lake. I would suggest getting one of the rustic sites or cabins. Be sure to skip the Visitors Center and head right to the Park Headquarters to make reservations. Bring all the DEET.
