Enjoy the country life in Kau on the South End of the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 20 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place).
Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there. You don’t need a 4WD to get to our place, but you will need a SUV or truck. Go slow the road is bumpy and rough in places. We are 1.2 miles from the highway.
Off the grid. Rustic, but fun.
If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot!

Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchenette. Boil hot water in the kettle, put cone filter with a paper filter and ground coffee inside and on top of thermos. Drip. It's delicious!
This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and Tmobile work also
The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing!
The back 15 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.
We have beautiful furnished cabins with beds, so you don't have to pitch a tent. Pillows, blankets, fresh towels provided.

We have a 24-foot Class C RV, Ohana, surrounded by coconut palms and offering a 180-degree, million-dollar view! Enjoy the peace and quiet along with refreshing ocean breezes.
The RV sleeps up to 4 guests, with a queen-size cab-over bed and a full-size bed. It includes a kitchen and a bathroom with a toilet and shower.
There’s a large covered lanai for watching the sunsets each evening, as well as a fire pit for campfires.
Mountain goats occasionally graze on the property, and during whale season you will not only see whales—you can also hear them!
We are located in South Kona, 35 miles south of Kailua-Kona, 56 miles from Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, and 95 miles from Hilo.

Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, but you do need to rent an SUV or truck with high clearance. No sedans. Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places..

It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things.
The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water.

We had a wonderful stay at Green/Black Sand Pt. Hipcamp. The site is on the Belt Road and very convenient to local attractions. It has flush toilet and shower facilities as well as a covered patio. We were there during the recent Kona Low storm so the added amenities were very welcome. Robert and Nancy were wonderfully gracious hosts.

A perfect place if you’re looking for a peaceful place to decompress! I stayed in the Bamboo Canopy and would definitely go back. Bed was comfy. Loved the coqui frogs croaking at night. I was surrounded by lush vegetation with a banana plant right outside my door. Bathroom is a compostable toilet which was super clean and hot shower was glorious! Kitchenware could use an upgrade, but the kitchen itself was kept very clean by fellow campers. Sunset view is the cherry on top!

I enjoyed the tropical environment and ocean view from the shared lanai. The room has a great big screened in window that I left uncovered for the tree views. The location is good for Kona activities. The driveway is about a 13 degree incline, so be prepared for that. There is a banana bread spot just down the road, go right when you leave the drive and you will see it shortly on the left!

Weekend Trip to 🌈 Rainbow’s End Farm & Homestead!
Rainbow’s End was truly one of the highlights of my time on the Big Island. Staying in the treehouse felt like a little hidden sanctuary tucked up in the trees. I loved falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of birds singing and the leaves dancing in the breeze—it was incredibly peaceful. The bed was so comfortable, and the mosquito net let you enjoy the open-air treehouse experience without any unwanted visitors.
The whole property has such a warm, welcoming, and laid-back vibe. The shared spaces had everything I needed, and it felt like the perfect balance of nature, comfort, and community. It was also an amazing home base for exploring, with easy access to South Point and Volcanoes National Park, and such a relaxing place to come back to after a full day of adventure.
Such a special, unique place that really captures the spirit of the island. I’m so grateful for the experience and already know where I’ll be staying the next time I visit. 🌿🌈✨

2 nights at Kona comfy RV w/million dollar view
I loved staying here! The hosts were amazing and attentive, and also so kind in letting us borrow their truck to get up the driveway. They left us some snacks as a nice welcome too! The RV is stocked too with tea and coffee which was great, since we hadn’t brought any with us. All the dishes and cooking necessities were there too and in great shape. It was very easy to communicate with them and if we needed anything we could text them!

1 night at Paradise yurts
Wow.. Simply amazing. Lets start with arrival where were are greated by 2 wonderful dogs and two lovely cats. Then Casey welcomes us and shows us around. The private yurt is lovely and even has a frig and microwave. The seperate "gilligans island" bathroom as he calls it is so cool. Then the public area by the pool with chairs, couches, TV, drink area and a great view of horses, sheep and cows with the ocean in the distant background. We instantly wished we were staying several nights instead of just one. A nice nights sleep, earplugs did help with the birds and neighbors dogs hearding some cattle in the morning. Lovely coffee then a tasty breakfast of eggs, pancakes and fruit with the wonderful view.
Enjoyed chating with Casey and his hospitality was unreal. We will certianly book a longer stay next time we return to the Big Island... Many Thanks

2 nights at Kona comfy RV w/million dollar view
Truly an amazing sight to behold! Lots of little details went in to creating and maintaining the RV space. We were made to feel right at home. All the basic amenities were there, which was crucial as we forgot to bring coffee. It would have been easy to just spend all day relaxing and taking in the sights of the ocean. Lots of happy birds talking to us, beautiful fruit trees, and so much more . . . Would definitely stay again 10/10

I was looking for a quiet spot to do Tai chi as the sun was rising then finish my book. This spot was perfect, with a georgeous view, permaculture vibe and a small pavilion to chill in. A nice breeze was blowing thru the evening and the sound of the cane grass and banana tree leaves is a memory ill carry for a long time.
I even came back a few nights later and used this as base camp before a great hike in the Kau desert which was on my hike list for a long time.
I highly recomend this spot for anyone looking for peice and quite.

Weekend Trip to Papaya Patch at Sunrise Horizon
This is a great little spot. Truly all you need. A good view, a big bathroom with hot water, good location and clean. We liked the little off the beaten path neighborhood. Everyone there is wonderful. Close to South point and green sands beach and just quickly off the highway between Kona and Hilo. Brian is a great guy with awesome tips and a cool attitude! Hope to see him again when we come back next visit. Thanks so much so the chats Brian <3

Beautiful and convenient location, great way to avoid touristy spots. great food nearby and close to national park. Good views from the site, lots of space and animals everywhere.

Very scenic and relaxing! My daughter (6) and I loved everything from the delicious breakfasts, friendly animals, very neat and clean atmosphere, and great hosts! 10/10 would and am recommending to friends and family. Such a great staycation!

Weekend Trip to Yip Camp and Eco-Retreat Center
The cabin is incredibly cute and very comfortable. Thomas is a super friendly host and a nice guy. I would recommend doing the initial approach to the place in daylight as they are rural roads but all in all it's an amazing place to stay

About
Manukā State Wayside is a rest stop area with an opportunity to chow down at picnic tables amongst native and introduced trees. To walk off your mean feed of spam musubi, there is a short two mile nature hike available at the adjacent Manuka Natural Area Reserve. Should you decide to camp or just have more time to explore,the reserve features 25,000 acres and a variety of natural habitats including subalpine shrublands and forests, mesic montane kipuka forests, wet montane forests, lowland mesic forests and lowland dry forests. Recent lava flows have created unsurveyed lava tubes, and it’s not unusual to spot a cloud of Hawaiian hoary bat. Please come prepared to supply your own drinking water.
