The outhouse that you see was used when it was first built and now is for storage.
The original owner built the house himself and it was originally on piers alone with no other foundation!
There is a folder in the bedroom closet of the house over the years.
The decorations were here when we bought it so we kept them to preserve the house’s uniqueness.
We treasure this house which is nestled amongst the trees and has so many beautiful birds that visit.
Many turkeys love to stop by too!
If you hear the deep cooing from the monster doves (who are very shy) you can try to spot one. They are amazing.

Great spot! The shed keeps you much warmer at night. Definitely go during a new moon — the stars are just magical. There isn’t a toilet, it’s just a portable stool with bags, which may be a challenge for some, but there’s really nothing as thrilling like shitting in a bag in the wilderness.

Stayed here for a 5 day solo retreat. Beautiful location, the cabin is private and set away from the main complex, and is very well insulated, warm at night and cool during the day. Caitriona, Michele, and Tom are all very friendly, welcoming, and respectful. Highly recommend.

I’m almost too zen-ed out to write a review! This was such a tranquil getaway & Caitriona & Michele were very kind hosts. Thank you! The “hermitage” was very private & stayed magically cool through the afternoon sun while still getting warm enough to keep the window open at night! I’d describe it as 50% camping (sleeping on cots & peeing outside if you don’t want to do the walk to the common area) & 50% cabin (everything is set up for you and there’s access to the super well stocked kitchen, shower etc). The kitchen & bathroom are a short (2 min?) walk down the hill. There’s a beautiful stretch of the PCT less than 10 mins away. Sunrises & sunsets & stars, oh my! I hope to be back again soon. Thanks again!

I had an incredible stay at The Castle House Estate! The Guard Tower #2 was the perfect tiny home to stargaze from. My friend and I spent hours laying on the turret watching the night sky and returned to the cozy bed when it finally got dark. We spent some time lounging by the pool as well and enjoyed walking around the estate. I loved that the property is dog friendly so I was able to bring mine with me for this trip, highly recommend a stay!

This spot is EXACTLY as pictured. We loved how bright, welcoming and comfortable it is. The proximity to the east entrance of Joshua Tree State Park can’t be beat! And there’s art all around if you keep your eyes peeked (“Springs”, I’m ‘looking at you! And the end of the world …) Had trouble with the door lock but Jonathan was very responsive and fixed it immediately. For those needing to work, the wifi held up to my Zoom meetings. And anyone worried about the heat (it hit 114 during our stay) should know that the air conditioners and ceiling fans kick butt. Thank you!

This place is extremely cute, and the hosts were helpful and communicative. Coming from Hollywood, I was SHOCKED at how QUIET it was here. And how dark it was at night!! It was crazy! You really feel like you're "off the grid," which is nice. The surrounding area is mountainous and desert-y and really pretty.
The cabin was well stocked, air conditioned, and homey. It was a little too hot to be outside (with an elderly dog) during the day, but we enjoyed some amazing hikes during the evening hours - I'd particularly recommend hiking to the Zen Point around sunset.
The bathhouse was a super quick walk from the cabin so that was no biggie, and it actually had a nice shower! It was overall nicer than I was expecting. However, if you're on the shorter side in terms of height, be mindful of how your anatomy...um...interacts with the nuances of the toilet. You'll see what I mean :)
We didn't go full-on with the nature therapy trails, but if meditation and mindfulness are your jam, then you'll probably enjoy them. Overall, the vibes here were excellent. Bring sunscreen!!

What a magical place!! The host was always available whenever we needed anything or had a question. It’s the perfect spot to disconnect and truly enjoy some time away. The cabin is super cozy and well equipped with everything we needed. My girlfriend and I loved exploring the nearby trails. The fenced yard was a huge plus, our dogs were safe and could roam freely! Incredible one-night stay there. If anything, the views from the cabin are underrated. Overlooks so much gorgeousness AND got to wake up basically inside a cloud. While it was near freezing outside, stayed plenty toasty inside.
Oh, and did do the 20- to 25- minute drive to Borrego Springs for dinner and had several nice options there. Otherwise, prepared simple meals using the the propane stove and kettle. Highly recommend for a single/couple looking for a simple get-away.

Camped at Mecca Beach campsite on a Saturday in June and nearly had the place to ourselves. Warm in the mornings and during the day but cooled down at night. Site was beautiful but once you walk toward the shores you get the dead everything smell. Campsites are far enough away from the water that its not a big problem. Be sure to take a day trip to Salvation Mountain.

Boaters, head out into the middle of the water where you can get away from everything-- the smell, other people, you name it. You’ll have the place to yourself.

Back in the day, it used to be The Up and Coming Spot, but now it’s kind of a desert ghost town/fish graveyard/post-apocalypse film. Makes for cool photo ops though!
