3 nights at Tiny Village Woodland

This was an absolutely majestic spot, the view was beautiful and peaceful. The park was so clean showers were spotless. The swimming area was such a nice bonus. Definitely recommend you rent the kayaks, the surrounding water area is wild with deer, ducks, and other wildlife. The water was warm and clear. Monica was a super host made sure we had everything and was super responsive. I could not have picked a nicer spot to spend my birthday. We will definitely be back, this is a new favorite! Bring good bug spray!!!!!

This was our 2nd vacation at Tiny Village and it was amazing! The lake is fantastic! We swam, there are plenty of water stuff to play with too like the bongo water trampoline! The campgrounds are pet friendly. Monica was absolutely incredible and helpful! The seasonal camp goers were very welcoming and friendly. We highly recommend this campground for families and solo travellers.

Weekend Trip to Tiny Village Woodland

We absolutely loved our stay. Tiny Woodland has it all and is super inclusive for families and pets. The weather was perfect for swimming and we enjoyed the beach and swimming area thoroughly. You can tell the love the staff puts into making sure you have a great experience (clean, beautiful landscaping). I loved the quiet evenings and watching the fireflies by the water. We will be coming back again!

Weekend Trip to Bushwood!

We spent 4 unforgettable days at Pine Solitude, and it truly lived up to its name. The site is a private, hike-in spot surrounded by water & trees, offering lots of shade & privacy. It comes with a picnic table, fire pit, thunderbox, and even a canoe — perfect for a quiet getaway. Our group of 6 and my dog Cashew had plenty of space for 3 tents, 2 hammocks, and a big tarp that kept us dry during a heavy rain on the last night. Highlights of the trip included stargazing in the dark zone (some of the best night skies we've ever seen), daily campfires, cooking meals together, and mellow canoe rides around the lake, which my dog Cashew especially loved! We played guitar, board games, and tried our luck fishing (no bites, but still fun). The weather was mostly hot & humid during the day but cooled off nicely at night. Even the big rainfall couldn’t dampen our spirits thanks to our tarp setup. We didn’t hear/see anyone else all weekend thanks to the site's privacy and serenity. That said, be prepared for lots of mosquitoes, deerflies & horseflies — nature’s price of admission. Next time we’ll be bringing a bug zapper racket! Huge thanks to our host Brian, who was incredibly helpful and friendly. He transported our gear in and out with his ATV and made sure we had water and firewood when needed. We highly recommend Pine Solitude to anyone looking for a peaceful, off-grid experience. It’s a perfect spot to unwind, reconnect w/ friends, & soak in the beauty of Ontario’s wilderness.

Weekend Trip to Glamping - Intimate Cabin & Campsites

Just got back from the most peaceful getaway hosted by the lovely Chloeena and Larry — and wow, they’ve truly thought of everything! The cabin, the outhouse, the shower… every detail is so well designed and blends right into the natural beauty around you. If you're craving a break from the buzz of daily life, this is the spot to disconnect and soak in the sounds of nature (birds chirping included — free of charge!). It’s the kind of place where your phone takes a backseat, but you still get just enough Rogers signal to check the basics and avoid full-on digital withdrawal. No doomscrolling here — just de-stressing. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind, unplug, and enjoy a little peace and quiet with a side of fresh air and forest magic.

This is a beautiful place to stay deep in the wood. It's very calme, no noise. You are near of a k lake to swim and a nice deck for the sunshine. It's a calme lake, we are alone on the for the time we stay there. Paddleboard was so cool.

2 nights at Cartwright Springs Brewery

This was my 3rd time camping on Andres property. I just came back from a 3 day solo trip at site d. Very peaceful and private. Lots of space to spread out. I showed up almost 2 hours early and he let me set up. He also allowed me a few extra hours to check out so I could wait for my ride. I wish I had booked a few more days! 10/10! Hardworking and honest host who will do whatever is in their power to accommodate their guests. This is an awesomely unique property where you can be right in the middle of the farmette action.

Weekend Trip to Trapper Lake

Extremely great place to relax. We had a great time. Kelly was the best as when we stayed got hit with a big storm and came out that night/AM to make sure we are safe. The site is large and clean, has a nice fire pit with grill. More than enough room for a family getaway. I hope to make it back a few times a year.

Weekend Trip to Still Wild Acres

The site is beautiful and very quiet. Going for a ride in the paddleboat is fun. We loved watching the fireflies come out at night. This has nothing to do with the site itself, which is really great and safe, but just a general reminder to campers in Southern Ontario: make sure you check the weather before your trip! Thunderstorms are strong and impressive in that part of the country.

Rob's Waterfront #1 site was absolutely perfect!! Well manicured, direct access to water and lots of space. The view was incredible, the lake was full of fish!!! Rob is so nice and his dog Skye is so so sweet!!! We would love to return one day!! Bring bug spray, you're right beside the lake haha

The sites are in the forest with either a view of the pond, of Cartwrights Creek or of the Ottawa valley from a hillside. Black Maple Farm

The Ridge Retreat

The Ridge Retreat is 6 acres of beauty topped off with amazing waterfront and an awesome new dock. A gravel road has been prepared from the road access right down to the lake. We recommend that you park on the upper portion of this driveway/road and walk or use an ATV to travel on the trail to the lake. As mentioned, there is about a 40 ft incline just as you approach the clearing down by the lake . Please wear running/walking shoes and descend slowly down either of the 2 trails provided. The trail "Easy Street" is definitely an easier descent and climb. Learn more about this land: Situated just off the main road, The Ridge Retreat offers you the privacy and beauty of 6 unspoiled acres. Follow the gravel walkway/road down (5 min walk) to your amazing private dock situated on Howes Lake, Verona Ontario. Deep, clean water for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, etc. There are 2 firepits should you decide to have a campfire - one at the road site (RV and trailer) and one at the waters edge. This property provides privacy and solitude for nature lovers. The designated RV parking spot is up near the main road along with a very nice outhouse but if you decide to tent camp, there are a few choices that would bring you closer to the water's edge. An additional outhouse is located at the top of the incline to the lake. The gravel/asphalt trail down by the lake is the steeper of the 2 trails. Choose the "Easy Street" trail off to your right after you pass the stop sign indicating that no vehicles should drive beyond. This trail is a bit longer but a much more gradual incline. Grocery shopping, nature trails, etc are just a few minutes away. The scenic town of Westport is a 30 min drive away with amazing shops and a local winery.

Overview

About

An hour southwest of Ottawa, Murphys Point Provincial Park is situated on Big Rideau Lake, part of the Rideau Canal UNESCO World Heritage Site. History and heritage form a huge part of the park’s identity and its summer interpretive programs, while the area’s nature and bird watching opportunities are supreme—warblers, hawks, owls, and orioles are frequently spotted. In addition to traditional car camping, Murphys Point Provincial Park offers water-accessible backcountry campsites for paddlers, plus a camp cottage with a kitchen, a glamping tent, and a deluxe yurt.

Notable campgrounds

Best for groups: The Round Lake Campground has three lakeside group sites that can accommodate between 12 and 50 people each.
Best for big RVs: Hogg Bay Campground can accommodate large vehicles with pull-through sites and electrical hookups.
Best for tents: Fallows Campground is designed with tents in mind (though some spots do accommodate small trailers).

Tips for snagging a campsite

The Ontario Parks system allows reservations up to five months in advance. If you’re counting on booking a yurt, cabin, or deluxe tent, note that these particular reservations fill up very early on.
If you miss out on a spot, check availability again at the four-month mark—this is the earliest that reservations can be changed or cancelled so you might be lucky and pick up a newly available site.
If everything seems full, you can also wait until the very last minute. If existing campers leave early, they get a full refund when they cancel their last night before 12pm. If any free spots are going to open up, it will be right around noon.

When to go

Murphys Point Provincial Park is open from mid-May until mid-October and again from mid-December to mid-March for winter day use. Like many parks, Murphys Point bans alcohol on Victoria Day and for the 10 days preceding it. Both Canada Day weekend (July 1) and the August Civic Holiday weekend (the first Monday of the month) are very busy. July and August are popular times to visit.

Know before you go

If you want to go backcountry camping, you’ll need an interior camping permit. Print them at home (within 14 days of your trip) or get one at the park office when you arrive.
If staying in one of Murphys Point Provincial Park’s cabins or glamping units, you’ll need to bring your own bedding, kitchen basics (like pots, pans, and dishes), along with your own food and personal items.

History buffs can sign up for a guided tour of the Silver Queen Mine (the park supplies the hardhats!) and also visit the resorted McParlan House, the location of an 1800s sawmill and now a registered archaeological site within the park.
