After a long drive getting to the site, I opened the door and said “ wow! This was worth it!” It was beautiful!! We had to put some thought into where our tents went as it is a bit of a slope, but all was well. We would have loved to have a fire, but fire ban is pretty much an all summer thing in NS these days. Beautiful breeze kept bugs down. Super quiet. I just loved it.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 days with our 2 dogs and it was wonderful! So quiet, relaxing and peaceful. We loved how close we were to the river and all the coverage from the trees. Matthew met us there our first day to show us around, he was very kind and also offered to help us unpack! 10/10 would stay here again!

Such a cute camp site!! Serge & Nadia put a lot of work into this adorable camping spot. The following are just a few of the cool items available at the campsite: - A covered common area (stocked with tables, chairs, eating utensils, plates, cleaning supplies, playing cards, etc) which was VERY helpful as the walk up to the site is steep and carrying all those items would require too many trips uphill. - A nice wide deck to place your tent - A comfortable seating area around a lively fire pit. - A picnic table - A firewood closet - A private toilet area Thank you Serge & Nadia for such a wonderful stay 🙏🏼

This is our second visit to this beautiful slice of off grid life. Even though it rained during a good bit of our stay, the fires kept us cozy. Gayle is a fabulous host and is always available if you need her.

Such a beautiful spot right on the river! Was a little difficult to find, tucked behind an unused baseball field. The actual site is a bit of a walk from the car & you need to carry everything over tree roots & rocks but was manageable. There’s definitely only room for one tent, two small hiking tents don’t fit. The toilet is a “loo with a view”, not a problem if you’re not shy about no walls! Overall it’s a picturesque camp spot!

Matthew’s created such a peaceful spot along the river on his land. Flat areas for tenting and lots of room for exploring. We enjoyed fishing and a warm cup of tea by the fire before packing into the tent for the night. Our pup enjoyed himself running through the woods exploring and cooling off in the river. The spot is close to town making it an easy night getaway!

The site is spacious and comfortable. **You must climb up the trail. It’s a 2-3 minute hike up which you will need to carry your personal camping gear up. You will find in the common area a fire pit and our clear top shelter equipped with a table and some stools. A food prep area where you will find a few kitchen items. There are three Adirondack chairs by the fire pit and two black folding chairs under the shelter. We also have a few games on site such as washer toss, ladder toss... Our outhouse is like no other. The sun letting skylight roof top provides a bright and airy comfortable space. It’s equipped with a mirror for your convenience. Big Blue On The Bay

"Big Blue" sits atop a lawn covered hill on the shore of the Cobequid Bay. A grove of fir and pine trees offer a sense of woodland solitude and fairies. The energy is magical. You can enjoy a front row seat or amble down over the lawn to sit on the end of the public wharf to watch the tidal bore squeeze into the mouth of the Shubenacadie River. It won't be long and you can marvel at the force of the water as it turns and begins to pour back toward the Bay of Fundy. Walk across the dyke to reach the oldest continually operating general store in North America - Frieze and Roy. Beyond the Wharf, a locally stocked craft shop borders us on the easterly side of the lawn. Next to it you will find Dawson Dowel Picnic Park, a playground and basketball court. On the westerly side of the driveway you there is a marsh area. The remnants of the shipyard where the WD Lawrence was built in the 1800's can be seen poking through the sand on the beach directly in front of the marsh. At low tide you can walk for miles in a westerly direction. Always be Tide Aware! Across the road from the marsh is the residence of WD Lawrence himself. It is a provincial museum. Directly across from Big Blue is a Ducks Unlimited pond. The sound of the geese and ducks can be heard 24 hours a day! There is a path that circumvents most of the pond. Adjacent to the Lawrence House parking lot there is an observatory where you can linger and watch the shenanigans of the occasional muskrat or possibly a beaver. The washrooms are accessed through a side door on the verandah of the main house. There are three showers and three toilets. If happen to be missing your "workout" there is a treadmill and exercise bike available to use. Outdoor fire regulations are strictly adhered to. There is a BBQ available for a small fee. Other perks (subject to scheduling) available at an additional cost might include: In-house Concerts; Reiki Sessions; Workshops and Ceremonies

When to go

The best time to visit Cape Split Provincial Park is between May 19th and October 9th when the park is serviced and the full splendor of nature is on display. Off-season adventurers can still access the trails, but should be prepared for no services and potentially challenging conditions.

Know before you go

Ensure your safety by planning your hike and packing out all garbage, as the park is not staffed.
Stay on the trail and keep a safe distance from the eroding cliffs.
Wear sturdy footwear and bring plenty of water and snacks for the journey.
Keep pets leashed and respect the natural environment by leaving no trace.
Remember, open fires are not permitted, but contained flame BBQs and cookstoves are allowed.
