Overview

About

Paluma Range National Park beckons adventurers with its misty mountains and lush rainforests. Here, you can immerse yourself in the beauty of Jourama Falls, explore the heights of Mount Spec, and indulge in the serenity of remote bush camping. Whether you're up for a refreshing swim in crystal-clear creeks or a challenging hike through the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, Paluma Range offers an unforgettable escape into nature.

Notable campgrounds

  • Mount Halifax remote bush camping - A true back-to-nature experience with no facilities, perfect for seasoned hikers.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early to secure your spot, as remote bush camping areas are limited and in high demand.
  • Check the park alerts for any temporary changes to camping area access before planning your trip.
  • Prepare for a self-sufficient stay, as amenities are not provided at remote bush campsites.
  • Explore nearby camping options for alternative sites if Mount Halifax is fully booked.

When to go

The best time to visit Paluma Range National Park is during the cooler months from April to September, when the weather is more temperate and rainfall is minimal. The wet season from December to March can see heavy rainfall and potential flooding, making some areas inaccessible.

Know before you go

  • Check current park alerts for safety information and access updates amid the wet season.
  • Wheelchair accessibility is available at select lookouts and facilities, though assistance may be required.
  • Domestic animals are not permitted within the park to protect the native wildlife.
  • Remember to carry adequate drinking water and treat any water from natural sources before consumption.
  • Be cass-o-wary! Cassowaries inhabit the area; never approach or feed these or any other wild animals.
