    Welcome to Backwater Paradise in Northern Ontario. We are 15 minutes north off Trans Canada Highway, Blind River. 5-6 hours northwest of Toronto and 9 hours east of Thunder Bay, between Sault Saint Marie and Sudbury. Looking for a wilderness get away or just driving through? We can accommodate. Backwater Paradise has possibilities for several camping styles. whether you bring your own RV, easy tenting or choose to go deep and experience raw wilderness/survival in our Left Field. There is a water tower providing utility water for washing or extinguishing camp fires. We have a quiet atmosphere for new and savvy nature lovers. s. There are no lights on this lake which makes it perfect for star gazing. The main entrance is very well marked and leads to the lake. This is where we host RV sites and tent sites. All nature watchers and sky gazers will enjoy the spaces we have here. Moose, bald eagles. wolves, otters, beavers, bears, owls and several migratory birds are common visitors. You will get to hear whippoorwills, several species of frogs, crickets, and sometimes wolves/coyotes at night. It is very important that pets be kept on a leash. In the lake there is plenty of bass and pike to keep a fisher and kid fishers busy. Common gear will work here and strongly recommend using wire swivel leaders. We promote 'lake 2 plate' principles and if you need anything let us know!! All campers have use of the water front no matter where your site is. On the shore of the lake front is a very large common area and firepit and picnic tables for everyone to access and enjoy the water and the shoreline. We host fires Friday and Saturday nights weather permitting at this location. There are several firepit rings to allow campers to have their own camp fire and we sell hardwood. We also have a paddle boat rental. There is 30 acres of mixed forest, lake and marsh, and now we are able to be open year round. You will notice that some of the photos have brown for grass. Those are earlier pictures of when we first opened. All of our expanded areas are like that at first, and things have changed a lot over the last 4 years and, will continue to have "unkempt" areas as we continue to expand. Our newest listings this year are called Almost Paradise (shower unit) and more recently Rootbound Ranch (camping for those travelling with livestock or horses.) This also available for those that like to stay at a farm. If Backwater Paradise is full, you can enjoy the same attributes just across the road at Almost Paradise. Another site we have is Left Field. Its raw bush and field space in the center. This is where the marsh is. We are also working on a new trail between Backwater Paradise and Left Field and encourage our campers to enjoy the views of both of these spaces. Backwater Paradise can be discovered at 220 Lake Hope Road, Blind River, Ontario

    Come enjoy stargazing where the only light pollution is campfires.!!! Close to it all and easy access. Tent sites 1, 2 and 3 are lined up on the left side of the lake front and large enough to give space. Site 1 being closer to the shore and site 3 is closer to the outhouse They all have a full view of the lake. We provide portable fire rings for all our sites with the option to use the communal shoreline fire pit.

    Come enjoy stargazing where the only light pollution is campfires.!!! Close to it all and easy access. This is the middle tent site you see on the left past the outhouse. Recently expanded this is now a large site with ash tree in the middle providing shade with thick bush surrounding it and great view of the lake! I often see campers use the ash tree as a dog tie out.

    Welcome to Backwater Paradise Day Use. This is a day visitors site only, so it is not a stay over night site. Pay attention to the check out time. Over night camping is available at all our other Backwater Paradise RV and tent sites. 😀 This gives the opportunity for day trippers to also enjoy our space. Whether it's berry picking, fishing, snowshoeing, or just to hang out! We love this place and hope you do too.

    Site 3 is the first tent site past the outhouse on the left. Its a new large site that is half mulched and set back into the woods like our other tent sites. We have portable fire rings and a picnic table. Firewood is available for 15$ a bundle in our extra packages..

    We recently had a chance to experience fall camping and it was everything we hoped for and more. This time of year with the reflection of the leaves off the lake is breathtaking. The lake view itself was incredible especially the early morning with a light mist hovering over the water lending an ethereal dream like quality. Our hosts were wonderful and ensured that we had everything needed to make our stay perfect. We are looking at our calendars to book for next year.

    Jackie is working hard to continually improve the property to help ensure the best possible semi-rustic camping experience. This was our third time camping at Backwater and we keep adding to our camp setup to maximize the resources at hand. We had the benefit of calm weather which made the lake smooth and glassy for dreamlike canoeing. If Jackie has spots available we will likely be back to try some winter camping. Big skies, warm campfires and fantastic hospitality…we are big fans of this Hipcamp!

    Loved the location, lake was peaceful and inviting. Jackie was super cool, I enjoyed spending time around the campfire with her. The outhouse is amazing, a real outhouse, not a portajohn!

    We were return campers because we really enjoyed Jackie’s property! She is an amazing host who is constantly looking to improve the camping experience of those who choose to spend time in a genuine backwater paradise. We canoed the lake and found fishing holes that reminded us of why we enjoy wetting a line. We plan to camp again in the Fall and are excited about a winter camping opportunity! The outdoors brought us, but the big sky, bonfires, and finding likeminded people will keep us coming back!

    My friend and I stayed here for one night and we absolutely loved it! Jackie and Len were extremely friendly and welcoming. The campsite itself is also great! We were the only guests there that night and the star gazing was incredible even though we had some clouds that were blocking some of the stars as they passed through. The lake next to the campsite is very nice too, we went out on the water in the morning before we left. Overall, would highly recommend staying here!

    Jackie was a great host!! Her property is great with awesome night skies. We got to watch the meteor shower and even saw the Starlink Star train while we camped there! We’ll definitely be back!

    So quiet and dark at night. Enjoyed watching the shooting stars and fishing in the very private lake. Jackie was a perfect hostess. Will definitely return.

    We stayed at Tent Site 1 and had a fantastic time! The site provided ample space for the two of us and our two husky mixes, and let us enjoy an amazing camping experience in a flat, shaded area that let all of us relax and unwind. We found our fishing experience to be exceptional and look forward to returning to the welcoming shores of Lake Hope. Jackie is a wonderful host(ess) and has a great vision for her property…we feel blessed that she’s willing to share it with us and others. I would absolutely recommend checking out this Hipcamp corner of the world!

    What a wonderful stay! Jackie is an A+ host who cares about her land, her community, and her campers. She is knowledgeable about the area and truly has love for what she does. Jackie is so accomodating she wants to be sure everyone can enjoy this piece of paradise no matter their ability. She made sure I had everything I needed and even helped me get a fire started after rain. The campsite was so peaceful and relaxing. The lake was gorgeous. There were a lot of mosquitoes for about 2 hours at dark so for that I would recommend bringing a hat with a net around your face because there are so many bugs that spray doesn't really work. Highly recommended and will return with my husband who I know will love to fish the lake for bass.

    I met Jakie when I reached the place. And what a place it is! I had it all to myself for the night so I camped by the lake (site 2?). All the amenities (firewood/insect repellant/outhouse/firepit/picnic table/wifi/etc) were accounted for. While I've only camped in a handful of places, this was my best experience so far. Highly recommended.

    We had an amazing experience with my family at Backwater paradise. Jackie was an amazing host. We started our trip off with a not so nice storm and Jackie gave us an alternate options instead of staying in our tent. We didn't end up needing it, but the offer was more then appreciated! Jackie frequently checked on us to make sure we were doing okay and our kids just adored her! If we had more days off from work, 100% would have booked more time. The water was warm, the pedal boat was fantastic! We added the extra bundle of fire wood, and the amount we received was just the right amount! The outhouse was clean and well maintained! We cannot wait to book our next camping experience here.

    Of the 4 sites I stopped at traveling across Ontario, this was the nicest of all of them. Wish the weather and bugs would have been better but that's out of anyone's control. Pros: Beautiful location. Great host. Secluded. Lake looked amazing. Very well maintained site Cons: I learned Mosquitos are still active, despite it pouring rain. No cell service and Wifi only works at the road (not normally an issue but may need it for GPS to get back to the highway)

    Jackie is a true bush woman and a genuine gem. She was the absolute best host I've ever had. She went above and beyond to make my stay fun and pleasurable. She took me to the local swimming holes, explained the history of the land and the natives. She knows all about the local plants and the benefits of each. She's literally a female version of Canadian Crocodile Dundee! I made a friend for life and can't wait to come back and ice fish with her. She's so knowledgeable of the land and a tremendous hard worker. It was hard to leave her and the beautiful sanctuary she created for strangers to enjoy. It's a private lake with wildlife everywhere around. The lake is clean and beautiful and inviting to swimming and fishing. There's no motorsports on the lake so it's serene and peaceful. I highly recommend staying here anytime you're in the area.

    Such a beautiful and serine campsite!!! Jackie was an amazing host and even gave a tour of the properties and explained the history of the land! The lake was gorgeous and calm and warm for a little dip. We had a huge bush fire while looking at the constellations, I even saw a shooting star! If I’m back in the area I will be staying here!

    Excelent spot! Jackie and her partner welcomed me and explained everything I need to know about the place. The sites are right in front of a beautiful lake, the night was clear and I could see a sky full of stars. The silence and peace was out of this world, would recommend to anybody wanting a peaceful retreat in the area.

    Kind and polite host! Nice outhouse 😊. For some reason (maybe because the sun was going down), when we got there in the evening…there were so many mosquitoes! So bring spray and net! Sites are very close together, but luckily we were the only ones there.
