Flannel Dog Farm is a seven acre homestead on the site of an 1860's farm. We have chickens, ducks, and dogs as well as a variety of wild animals. We have a large, open camping area and an emerging forest filled with native trees and birds. We are a peaceful, rustic, and safe site located just 15 mins. from I-90 and a mile south of Lake Erie. And, we make a mean breakfast– just read our reviews :) We offer several lodging options, detailed below. The Peace Portal, bell tent, and tent camping are on our farm proper, while the Blue Cabin is just down the road on a separate wooded parcel. The Peace Portal: --------------------- This comfy, rustic tiny house sits next to a beautiful pond. Watch the wild birds & animals through its large upcycled window, or sip your morning coffee on its sunny front porch. Enjoy a private picnic table and fire ring, as well as access to a shared standard half bath. Booking includes a farm fresh breakfast (kindly let us know of any dietary restrictions in advance) and one load of firewood. Blue Cabin: -------------- Located just down the road from our farm, the Blue Cabin is a private, off-grid cabin on a heavily wooded lot. Enjoy lots of shade, and a space that often stays cool, even in the heat of summer. Amenities include a picnic table & fire ring (comes with one load of firewood), water via a Berkey filter, and a compositing toilet. Bell Tent or Tent Camping -------------------------------- Deep in our property is our camping area. Because the bell tent and tent camping share a large picnic area + fire ring, we only allow one to be booked at a time so you can enjoy a relaxing, private experience. Both have access to a shared standard bathroom (short walk) or composting toilet (onsite). Breakfast can be added to either booking. The spacious bell tent includes a double futon mattress and bedding. A single mattress may be added. Kindly note that this particular offering is child- and pet-free. About Us ------------ Chris Zielski and Alan Block are the wife and husband team that steward the farm. Chris is an artist and has a beautiful onsite studio, Copper Leaf Studios. Our Peace Portal tiny house includes a comfy double bed futon and a small deck with chairs. Inside is a small desk and filtered water. A picnic table and firepit are nearby, where you'll have a great view of our pond. One bundle of firewood is included. While the tiny house does not have electricity or running water, both are available nearby on the farm for your use. A traditional half bath is a short walk away. A farm fresh breakfast and coffee are included in your stay. We're happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions. Outdoors you'll find chickens, bees, and dogs. Located on a private wooded lot, the Blue Cabin features a comfy double bed, a table and 2 chairs, water filter with potable water, and an external composting toilet. There are decks on both the front and back of the cabin. The front faces the road; the back faces the woods and a private picnic area with table and campfire ring. The cabin is on a 4-acre densely wooded lot that campers will have all to themselves. A gravel drive provides private parking and easy cabin access, while the back area feels very private and natural. The Blue Cabin is perfect for those seeking a quiet, secluded experience. Leashed pets are welcome. This site is restricted to those 18 and older.

This 14+ foot round tent features a double 3" thick futon mattress for comfy sleeping, plus large screened windows and a vented roof so you can enjoy a bug-free experience. Camping with a friend? An additional single 3" thick futon mattress can be added for a small fee. We offer a composting toilet is in a comfortable outhouse, and also have a traditional half bath nearby. Because we want you to have the meadow all to yourself, this listing requires pre-approval – if the tent camping site is available, we'll happily approve and block off the adjacent camping area for your enjoyment. My time spent at Flannel Dog Farm was short and sweet! Stopped by on a road trip for one night of sleep. Alan and Chris were extremely accommodating and their farm is beautiful and well maintained! Looking forward to spending more time there if possible.

The tent was lovely, and huge! There was beautiful lights around it, and the mattress was cozy. The surrounding land is beautiful and it is so peaceful. Highly recommend for anyone looking to get away for a bit!

The perfect getaway in every way

What a beautiful site in a great location to explore the wineries, beaches and covered bridges! So close to many pristine, uncrowded beaches with gorgeous sunsets. The stars numbered in the zillions! Chris and Alan are superb hosts and rescued us when we forgot our corkscrew :-); we added on the breakfasts and they were sublime and creative. Coffee was ready early! Our dog loved exploring the lovely farm and enjoyed the biscuits. We will happily return next season and bring the rest of our family! Super romantic and so peaceful.

Quiet, beautiful campsite!

We arrived later in the evening but Alan was there to greet us. Super nice guy! He told us all about the farm and how he and Chris worked to bring it back to a more natural state. The grounds are lovely and well kept. The area for tent camping was well maintained with a nice firepit. Composting toilet was so nice to have and it was clean. It was nice to be able to hear owls and coyote at night. Would definitely come back here to stay when we are in the area. Thank you, Alan and Chris!

Bicycling through Ashtabula!
Blue Cabin in the Woods
Chris and Alan, their farm, the food, the sunsets and the mindful touches are the perfect encoutrement for a restful, peaceful stay in the country! We were on a four day bicycle ride through Ashtabula - visiting wineries and eating local foods - and had an amazing time! We are already scheduling a spring return!

A spot like Flannel Dog Farm is absolutely the reason I check out hip camps when traveling. Alan was an amazing host and his sourdough bread and cookies are amazing. I can't vouch for the dog biscuits but our pup Daisy gave them two paws up. Great spot to sit by a campfire and look at the stars. Highly, highly recommend.

My stay at Flannel Dog Farm was excellent. Alan & Chris were excellent hosts. The location was quiet and comfortable. I chose the additional “light” breakfast and was very pleased. I’d certainly stay again if the occasion presents.

We spent one night at Alan & Chris’s bell tent and had the most wonderful time! The bell tent is cozy and durable (we stayed completely dry in a big storm). We enjoyed their specialty coffee and a delicious breakfast by them. Native plants, birds and their songs, and beautiful stars at night their property checks all of the boxes. We can’t wait to go back!

What a wonderful experience!!! From the start Alan and Chris were great communicators, which made my first time using this service so comfortable. Chris met us when we arrived and showed us around. She was amazing and asked about my partner’s dietary needs for both the charcuterie board I purchased and the breakfast that came with our stay. The farm itself was just as welcoming. The tiny home we stayed in was cozy and comfortable. We did not use the provided wood for the fire, but it was nicely stacked and ready for us if we chose to. We had the charcuterie on the first night and it was perfect. We were treated to a lovely spread of items that included Alan’s home made focaccia(soooo worth it!). The breakfast the next two mornings were worth the trip on their own. Alan had brought out coffee (delicious) for me and tea for my partner. The breakfast each morning was a spectacular way to start any day! We were also treated to a tour of Chris’s awesome studio and got to see some of her art, so cool. I would definitely recommend staying here and will probably follow my own advice again at a later day! Don’t hesitate, you are not going to regret staying with these amazing hosts!!

Tiny wonders abound!
Peace Portal Tiny House
As soon as I pulled onto the property, I could feel how special the farm was. WOW. The Peace Portal Tiny House took my breath away upon first sight - and I was so content just to read, write, eat (especially that insanely amazing breakfast, cooked by our hosts!), meditate, and soak up alllll the sights & sounds. From curious rabbits to croaking frogs, crowing roosters to lightning bugs zipping past my window as I rested in that cozy bed - it was everything I needed for an overnight getaway. Access to a half bath was AWESOME, as well as provided drinking water and an outdoor mini fridge, if needed. (Plus, it's only a mile to the lake!) Chris & Alan have created something truly special - and are PHENOMENAL, responsive, thoughtful hosts and human beings. STAY HERE! :-)

This was our second camping trip to Flannel Dog Farm and it is still a gem. The atmosphere is so relaxing due to all the beautiful sounds of nature - birds singing, frogs in the ponds croaking, chickens and sheep doing their thing. We love being there and are big fans of the sour dough bread and breakfast add-ons (highly recommend!). Plus, hosts Alan and Chris are just awesome people. Look forward to return trips in the future!

I loved tent camping on Alan and Chris’s land! They have done an incredible job of preserving the lands natural beauty and have created a very special environment. Their homestead flawlessly coexists with the natural landscape and offers a very comfortable campground with everything we needed. The breakfast and coffee were also delicious! Flannel Dog Farm was exactly what we needed this weekend and we’re already looking forward to camping there again in the future.

Overall we had a great experience, the little blue cabin had a nice comfortable bed to rest our heads and the welcome gift of fresh cookies was delicious! Heavy rains the week leading up to our stay made the fire pit area quite muddy so we didn't get to enjoy that in the evening as we didn't want to have a muddy dog :) We sat on the front porch of the cabin and although some traffic from the street the birds provided a nice serenade for the night.

Super private space, Alan & Chris let us know ahead of time that it was going to muddy so that we were prepared. We able to make dinner on the fire and thankfully the rain stayed away. Outhouse is super accessible to the cabin as well.

This was my second stay at Alan & Chris’s farm. Just as enjoyable as the first time, plus enjoyed their new sheep addition. The farm is well cared for and such a nice oasis after a long day of driving. I hope to stop by again on another cross country trip in our van. Love the yoga deck. Enjoyed our dinner by the campfire and had a peaceful night’s sleep. What more could you ask for.

Upon arrival to their farm, The host were readily available to greet you. They had cute little chickens running around and goats. Their homemade bread and charcuterie board was delicious . I’d highly recommend purchasing some of their add ons. Our dog was very happy with their homemade treats and enjoyed watching the chickens roaming around. Great layout and having a clean bathroom was a plus. Their farm is next to the lake and easily accessible to winery’s around the area. Would gladly stay there again.
