The Sandhill Cranes are Back!
We purchased our 20 acre homestead 16 years ago. The buildings were unlivable and land was overgrazed , but the windmill and sweet water well gave promise. We have been Restoring the land, allowing its native habitat to thrive. We now have a Year round vegetable garden, honeybees, orchard and grape vines. The adobe home and outbuildings and Sandhill (Crane) casita are restored with all recycle materials from the property. The 1.5 mile nature trail through grassland ,yucca and mesquite landscape provides solitude and 360 degree views of the sky islands in US and Mexico.

Dragoon is rich in history and natural beauty. The name comes from the 3rd U.S. Calvary Dragoons who battled the Chiricahua Apaches here led by Chief Cochise during the Apache Wars. Nearby, you can visit the confederate graves and ruins of the Dragoon Springs Stage Station. About 20 minutes away is Cochise Stronghold, home and burial place of Chief Cochise and Chiricahua Nat'l Monument is about an hour away (great hiking and climbing!). Unique to this area are the amazing rock formations of pillars, balances, and stacked rocks caused by cooled volcanic granite 50 million years ago. In addition, our area is home to hundreds of different bird species, the occasional Gila monster, coyotes, deer, and javalina.

At A "MILD" 4200 Feet Above Sea Level, the campground is on an Arizona desert oasis. For those who love the outdoors, the campground has a panoramic view of the Mule, Swiss Helm, Perillo, Chiricahua, and Dragoon mountains and is located just outside the quaint, historic city of Bisbee, Arizona. In winter, the dry desert air makes it feel a few degrees warmer than the thermometer indicates.
Located on a 120-acre ranch we are pet friendly and have over 3 miles of hiking trails.
Our accommodations also include camping cabins and RV rentals. For your enjoyment, we have a large well-equipped recreation center with a tv lounge, darts, ping-pong table, and pool table. Highspeed internet is located at our Clubhouse. The Clubhouse also comes equipped with bathrooms and a shower.

What a cozy little place! Perfect for my quick overnight in the area. A note that it is not as remote as I thought - in a small rural ish neighborhood and Tracy is next door. So not for you if you want complete seclusion. But so comfortable and well stocked. Tracy even helped me my shipping some clothes I left behind!

Beautiful, homey stargazing. Sunrises and sunsets are unbelievable. Amazing stay that provides the best star gazing you could imagine. The grounds are beautiful and well-worth exploring. The indoor space offers a comfortable bed, great books, and a little kitchenette. It was perfect, cozy indoor space for two.
Go for hikes in the Chiricahua National Monument! You won’t see anything like it!
Harry and Barbara are the best! They are the kindest, most welcoming people in the world! They have great recommendations for sight seeing in the area as well! I hope we get to return soon!

Weekend Trip to The Desert Oasis Campground
This was an amazing and welcoming stay! I felt safe and love that it was so close to bisbee but still far away i could see the milky way in the nightsky!! Highly recommend!
I went to go see the sandhill cranes and was so fortunate with the location and other wildlife encounters.

There was a large building with 2 pool tables, ping pong, TVs, washers, dryers, bar with seating area, sinks, etc. I enjoyed sitting on the patio listening/watching the birds. Highly recommend staying here if you are in the area.

This cabin and land was exactly as described in the app. It was cozy the heater work the air conditioner worked hot water for the shower and a small refrigerator with a very very tiny freezer hot plate in microwave. Everything you need!

We absolutely loved our stay at Sandhill Casita. The cozy quarters, the yard, the birds, and especially the host. We were made to feel very welcome here. If you love birding this place is a must. The yard is full of beautiful birds then it's only a 14 min drive to Whitewater Draw for even more variety of birds. I can't say enough good things about this place and the host. Hope we get the chance to visit this place again. Many blessings

Wonderful home, wonderful host! Make sure you're okay with an outdoor shower and bathroom (shower had great hot water and starry skies). Birds outside are a treat, and very comfortable inside even on warm days. We felt right at home

I loved the birds and tranquility of the place! The casita has everything you need for a short and/or minimalist stay and is quite comfortable. The outdoor toilet and shower added to the experience (just take note of booking in the winter). I would definitely stay here again.

Gorgeous property with so many birds and a nice nature trail, also conveniently located for getting around the region and only 15 minutes from Whitewater Draw! The casita is very cute but I hadn't realized that both the toilet and shower are outdoors, so be prepared for that (and bring your own towel/shoes to walk back and forth).

Great compact cabin with wonderful views and attention to detail. Nicely equipped, nice finishing touches. Friendly and responsive host.
Didn’t bother us, but part of the view to the mountains is a freight train line. Train traffic is audible, but even the one of our party who is usually noise sensitive was not bugged by it.

So much peace and beauty! We loved our stay here and cannot wait to come back. We came down for the Sandhill cranes but had so much fun birding on the trails around the ranch. We enjoyed the listening to a Great Horned Owl in the evenings and a sky full of stars. Definitely a perfect stay if you want to be closer to nature and have comfortable amenities.

and beautifully decorated in a simple way, this casita will make you haopy. And if you really want to get happy bicycle down to Whitewater to experience the life energy of 1000s of sandhill cranes. We need more places in the world like this one.

Bonita Canyon Campground
Small campground loop in a wooded canyon. Few private sites, be prepared to befriend your neighbors. Great campground host and well maintained facilities. Incredibly dark and quiet at night. My third visit, thanks to Hipcamp availability Alerts. I would return again. Pro-tip: Trailhead lots are tiny and fill up early, aim to drive up before sunrise or catch the 9:10am shuttle on weekends to avoid racing for a spot.

We loved, loved, loved Chiricahua National Monument. There’s a lovely eight mile scenic drive located within the monument and at the end of this drive (Massai Point) there's a short .5 mile self-guided interpretive walk with majestic views of the surrounding valleys, mountains, and a balanced rock. However, the highlight is a super fabulous 9+ mile hike called The Big Loop. This loop combined the following trails: Ed Riggs, Mushroom Rock, Inspiration Point, Big Balanced Rock, Heart of Rocks, Sarah Deming, Upper Rhyolite Canyon, and Echo Canyon. DO IT!

Late April is the end of Chiricahua National Monument's busy season -- you'll find chamber of commerce weather and light crowds. This is a dry area -- the creek was dry, and while the campsites have no fire rings, campers are allowed to have a fire in the grill stands (I was put off by this, and didn't do it). It's a spectacular drive through the canyon and a lovely setting -- I highly recommend a pre-dawn walk through the woods to the Faraway Ranch, watch the sunrise on the mountains.
