EXCEPT FOR THE RECENTLY ADDED TULLY 'THOREAU' ISLAND. Salamander Hollow is a private, evolving honeybee and human being sanctuary on 17 acres of land abutting Massachusetts State Forest. We currently have a one-room, wood stove warmed, cozy sleeping loft for one or two - with two benches below on either side of room - for two sleeping bags; plus, a separate 22 foot Sioux tipi with two cots. There are two chairs in the tipi, which if removed at night, make floor room for four other sleeping bags. 'Forest Bathing' for miles! If you're a larger group booking Salamander Hollow main camp with its Sleeping Library, Tipi & Slovenian Beehive House, you might consider renting this additional Tiny Cabin want to entertain all in glamping style, utilizing its amenities; as well, providing another bathroom/shower and guest bedroom for those who prefer being indoors while in the great outdoors. Note that Kula Bata Tiny Cabin abuts the wheelchair accessible larger bathroom/shower which is available to those at the Salamander Hollow main camp, yet you are secluded with your own private entry points and private bathroom. A ten minute drive takes you to the parking area to hike up Tully Mountain. There is a grill, wood fired pizza oven, two fire pits and a hygienic Incinolet electric toilet on the property for night convenience, with small camp sinks for washing & teeth brushing. Take a short hike off the property to organic Chase Hill Farm for milk, eggs, seasonal veggies, grass fed meat and other goodies. Say hello to their cows, chickens, pigs, goats, pups and kids. Nestled across the road from Salamander Hollow is Timber Haven Farm, where you can schedule your pickup of bacon and eggs, while loading up on delicious Owl Energy Bars for your adventurous excursions. For those interested in the glamping side of camping, you will enjoy a remote rustic experience with a few creature comforts to keep you well read, clean and fed. Please bring your own bedding - pillows, sleeping bags, comforter, teddy bears.There is a wall mounted blue tooth car radio/CD player in Sleeping Library, so bring your pre-digital favorites. Classical CDs to listen to. Lots of eclectic books to peruse.Walkie talkies, a set of 4, are available upon request. Chess & poker sets, too. Electric 2-burner stovetop and griddle upon request. Bring fire-starters/newspaper for tinder. We suggest if you are staying more than a night or two in winter, you bring supplemental wood or we can direct you to a nearby stand. Next season, our own cut and split wood will be seasoned and available on site. We ask that you carry out trash and recyclables. An established Western facing four point sacred Medicine Wheel site being established on Askari Ridge - our name for the slope starting with the two fire pits - 'Askari' being Swahili for night guard. Here is where we envision a great touch-point area for those leading groups to be for a base-camp by day or night, where eventually a multi-use tenting platform/performance stage will be constructed for outdoor entertainment, creating an authentic 'stadium style' seating on the hill. You will see on your way up to Salamander Hollow main clearing - the Kula Bata Tiny Kabin on the left of the dirt road- now available to rent with its small guest room for two, infrared sauna, hot shower, kitchenette, dishwasher and laundry.

This tiny cabin for two with its detoxifying infrared sauna, kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom/shower and WiFi has its own back-trail leading off property to New England Scenic Trail which has 'forest bathing' on the trails for miles. Ditch the camp suds, the term 'forest bathing' [shinrin-yoku in Japanese] simply refers to the healing power of trees and nature when walking in the woods. 'It just makes you feel good' - as HipCamp's description muses. YES, there is WiFi. YES, comfortably warm with heater seasonally in each room & wall mounted faux fireplace in the bedroom, with the InfraRed Sauna of course to get you extra toasty in Winter. In summer, there is A/C. Kitchenette with modern amenities,  including dishwasher & laundry. There's a blue tooth boom box so bring your favorite playlists and podcasts to stream, books to read, journal, art projects to manifest in solitude. Salamander Hollow is a private, evolving honeybee and human being sanctuary on 18 acres of land abutting Massachusetts State Forest, with currently a one room, wood stove warmed, cozy sleeping loft for one or two - with two benches below on either side of room - for two sleeping bags; plus, a separate 22 foot Sioux tipi with two cots. This one of a kind 'postage stamp' size private 1/2 acre free standing island with a camping shack on Tully Pond in Orange, MA located 10 minutes away from main Salamander Hollow Healing Habitat. Think of it as a floating shelter in water, at the base of Tully Mountain, surrounded by natural beauty yet still close to civilization. Complimentary canoe, life jackets and parking space during your stay. With its tiny cabin, dock, fire-pit, grill, self contained compost toilet and hand-washing station; a true pack in/pack out zero carbon footprint camping experience under the moon and stars. Great spot to use as a daytime camping site as well. No electricity. No heat or AC. No running water. No Wifi. UNPLUG! Swim off dock. Fish. Kayak or canoe on Tully Pond. Great place for writing and quiet

I always enjoy staying at the Kula Bata Tiny Kabin for my personal writing retreats. This was my third time there. The cabin has everything I need, but more importantly, acres of quiet, wooded trails. Great for peace and contemplation. There are also plenty of good restaurants/supermarkets/movie theaters etc. within about 20 minutes if you need some diversity of settings!

My pup and I had an amazing time and would definitely be back in the future. Mary was incredibly responsive and accommodating from start to finish. The day before arrival, she sent a very detailed guide with recommendations for things to do nearby and answered every question I had within minutes throughout the trip. The cabin was clean, cozy, and stocked with everything needed for a comfortable stay — stove, grill, kitchen essentials, bathroom/shower, washer/dryer, and an awesome infrared sauna. She also left complimentary honey along with treats for my puppy, which was a thoughtful touch. I ended up purchasing honey from her as well since the complementary honey was really good. She provided me recommendations based on my what I'll be using the honey for and she made the purchasing process very easy. One thing I really appreciated was the privacy. Everything was seamless and well organized, and despite how available and helpful she was, we never even had to meet face to face. Even though it rained for most of our stay, we still had a fantastic time. The nearby hiking trails and farm within walking distance made the trip memorable, and my pup absolutely loved exploring the property. Overall, a relaxing and memorable stay with a host who clearly cares about her guests’ experience.

This was a perfect little get away. My dogs and I had a blast on Tully Island and the cute little shack to unplug in. Mary gave some great suggestions for things to do and places to get supplies in the area. We'll be back for sure!

This is a fantastic and unique place, and the host is the most helpful, considerate, and accommodating person, who made our stay truly unforgettable! She answered every single question with a gazillion of suggestions which truly helped plan the trip better - e.g. she suggested that we eat lunch at the Apple Hill Farm or do a hike to the nearby reservoir and to Mt. Grace next day. Sleeping in the cozy beehive was very pleasant and safe, no need to worry about the bees - they indeed mind their business and don't get into the house. The table next to the pizza oven outside offers amazing opportunities for group meals. The farm stand shop 10 min away offers a great variety of food for breakfast. I recommend planning what to bring to this place for cooking - wood, coal, utensils (knives, spoons, forks, spatulas) - assume you need to have everything from home for your comfort - there are only few things available, and we were notified about this in advance. Also be ready for a short 2 min walk to the bathroom with a flashlight if late, - the bathroom with shower is located in a different house. It was a fabulous experience, and Mary deserves "the best host" medal! I will recommend this to every friend!

A Sweet Place to Stay

Beehive Cabin, Sleep Library & Tipi
We celebrated some Sweet Sixteens with 6 teens who had a blast during their stay at the Beehive Cabin, Sleep Library & Tipi while the grownups enjoyed the comforts of the fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and sauna at the tiny cabin down the hill. We gathered for a pizza party, made campfire s'mores and explored the easily accessible hiking trails and a great farm stand within walking distance. Mary is an exceptional host who has thought of everything to make her guests comfortable. She is very communicative and provides a lot of information about what to expect and do during your stay. Such a peaceful place to unplug and connect with nature and one another. We are also happy that we brought some delicious honey home to keep enjoying the experience!

Healing ï's a great word. I take sleeping pills and it's become an addiction but I didn't need them here. We rented the whole property and I would highly recommend this if you need to think or relax and just have privacy.

Just you and the birds!
Tully 'Thoreau' Island 1940s Shack
Wonderful spot for bird-watching! Expand your life list. Feels like you are far away from everything on the island, but you can be back on land in 10 minutes. Hosts Mary and Ingo were super accommodating. Ingo kindly even helped me to get the canoe back to the island after capsizing in a wind gust! Good news—I was a much better paddler by the end of my stay. It was raining a good bit of the time, but it didn’t slow the birds down and was a great background for reading actual printed books! Also, lots of games and activities in the cabin. Being early May, it was cold. An extra layer of clothing and a good sleeping bag made all the difference. I live nearby and have been jealously eying the cabin for 40 years. Thanks to Mary and Ingo for bringing the dream alive!

We had such a wonderful stay here! The cabin was so cozy, a perfect size for two (and a dog), and had great amenities. The sauna was our favorite part! So much to do too! You can spend your time relaxing around the cabin, exploring the surrounding trails and farms, or visiting the nearby town. We will definitely be back!

We had a lovely relaxing getaway. Quiet mornings on the back porch sipping coffee while our 16 month old wandered around - following the dog. We would forest bath/hike in the afternoons & enjoy sessions in the sauna while baby naps. Fires & wine warmed us as we reflected about our days under the moon lit sky. This place is so cozy and are grateful for our time spent here.

Tully 'Thoreau' Island 1940s Shack
We had such an amazing stay at Tully Island! It was the perfect little escape to unplug and just be present. We brought our girls and spent our days out on the boat, cooking over the fire, and just enjoying the quiet and nature. It was so peaceful and exactly what we needed. Mary was such a wonderful host so kind, responsive, and thoughtful. You can tell she really cares about the experience of her guests. We’re so grateful for the memories we made here and would absolutely come back again. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!

Great space and place to hang out, make pizzas in the outdoor oven, and have a fire in the tipi. That was very cool. Sleeping is a little tough, on the narrow sides with pads in the salamander cabin. Couldn’t really tell in the photos, but if you have a camping air mattress, would good to bring it

Tully 'Thoreau' Island 1940s Shack
Mary’s cabin on Tully pond was perfect for a spring break getaway with my girlfriend!! We enjoyed campfires and cooking on the grill and the sounds of the birds. Beautiful views including hiking nearby! Amenities were the perfect amount for a very comfortable experience. We both felt truly happy and enjoyed our stay greatly. Highly, highly recommended.

Mary's cabin was beautiful and very comfortable. Well equipped but not excessive, kitchen was great to cook & eat in, sauna is amazing. There are nice books. It is a very peaceful place, with a very nice farm shop in walking distance, countless hiking trails around- at the same time the cabin is so comfortable I was tempted to stay in all day. And Mary is such a wonderful host.

I love visiting Mary’s land. This is my second visit and I’ll definitely be back. Mary has thought of all the little details that makes for an excellent stay. The land is beautiful and there’s plenty to explore. Nearby hikes offer great opportunities to further get into nature but you’ll find all you need on Mary’s property.

A very peaceful weekend getaway! The cabin was quiet, cozy, and thoughtfully designed. The surrounding land is beautiful and private. The sauna and outdoor spaces are wonderful additions too. Mary was a warm and responsive host, and it’s clear she has put a lot of care into creating a restorative environment here. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet nature retreat!

Responsive host and a really, really cute interior living space! The kitchen and sauna were especially great. Mary was so, so sweet with all of her recommendations and replied very quickly when our car had issues getting stuck in the snow. The only issue (and it was very minor) is that the walls between the campsite bathroom and the bed were a bit thin, so we got jumpscared a little the first time we heard people next to us 😅

I loved this cabin! Went there to celebrate my anniversary with my boyfriend and we had the most lovely time ever. Very fun, comfortable, and so beautiful. The host is super nice, communicative, and super friendly. 10/10 place to go.

Forest Zz Library Tipi & Pizza Oven
What a lovely lovely place. Photos do not do it justice. We can’t wait to go back. It probably is gorgeous in the summer but man, the place covered in snow and mist is something else. The epitome of cozy. Will definitely spend a night in the tipi when we come back. Thanks for having us, Mary, and thanks for sharing wonderland to us.
