Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home at some sites—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Welcome to Bike Trail Camp 10.5 After years of buildout (since 2017), we welcome you to relax and share this unique ecological corridor of Alachua County. We are located in the heart of the Lochloosa Wildlife Management Area, just 10miles from the University of Florida and Santa Fe College. We offer a getaway with natural intention. Unwind and Recharge right out the gate… Not only are there 1000’s of acres of natural are to explore, enjoy concerts, breweries, dining and entertainment all accessible by bike! Literally, our back gate is the Gainesville/Hawthorne Bicycle Greenway Mile Marker 10.5. Head west to through the preserve to lively downtown Gainesville or head east to Hawthorne to quiet historic Hawthorne. The trails go for miles...and outdoor recreation is everywhere! We offer several opportunities for guests: Campsite A: “Rv” 30amp plugin and UV filtered water hookup. Class C or smaller preferred. This site backs up to the trail so, periodically you see a cyclist buzz by. Adjacent to RV pad is a raised/clean tent camping area with additional room for tables and chairs. The whole space is about 50ft x 50ft Campsite B “The Bus” is a retired 1978 Greyhound Tourbus. The cab remains untouched with all the vintage radios and switches. As for the rest…it’s essentially a queen size sleeping studio. Equipped with 2 small under mount refrigerators, a large toaster, 2 burner stove and hot water. Definitely went far out with this one but, it also has fun lighting and 100’s of vinyl records and amazing sound system. The windows are very thick and filter the natural daylight, so reading or jumping online (yes there is Internet) is very relaxing. Campsite C “The Preserve” is for those that just have a small tent and minor gear. Bike touring is popular in our area and we are a base camp for mid-journey adventures. Affordable, safe and refreshing….and back gate to the trail. Our Indoor/Outdoor restroom is fully enclosed and plumbed with hot water shower and flushing toilet. The concrete structure is for all camp guests.

Vintage Tour Bus
Bike Trail Camp 10.5
I found the property. Even with GPS, the space was well hidden. Just past a spectacular Oak is the bus. And there she was, an MCI MC-8 Crusader built in 1978. A Vintage stainless-steel beauty. As I pull open the door I imagine thousands climbing aboard for journeys to weddings, funerals, business trips, new lives and even escapes. I had to sit in the driver’s seat and pull closed the levered door with the big solid handle. All switches and dials at rest. As I stood up to head back, I could feel the gentle sway of the bus chassis on tires filled with air. The Crusader was not hard a’ground and could very well roll again. The front has comfy seating. The middle has counter space, sink, small fridge, burner, and a toaster oven. Some curious things, a small toilet and some protrusions coming up from the floor. The back held big bed. Lots of stainless and custom aluminum. It was not cramped or crowded, I liked it. Plenty of outlets, the lighting easy to control. It was chilly so socks & layers. I could see 2 heaters; this was not an insulated bus. The property is a combination of farm, bike ranch, and artist colony. I slept well, the bed was comfortable. It was chilly but I did not need the heater, the blankets worked fine. I had early rain so I enjoyed my coffee & kindle while drops pelted the roof. The walk to the bathroom is maybe 50 yards. After some fiddling, I got nice hot water out of the shower. The rain had stopped so biked the other way on the trail.
