Wow, the gem of Ranchita! This is a phenomenal primitive camping spot, where the views & the land are as good as it gets. I’ve been HipCamping for many years; specifically remote, primitive, no frills camping, & this was all that plus frills I didn’t know I needed. Islay & Maria were incredibly gracious hosts, opening their home. Islay was super communicative & easy, promptly answering questions & available during the whole stay. She has found a slice of heaven & generously opens it up for the public.
Close off the hiway, take an easy dirt road & slight steep path to the mountaintop. My Prius did it no problem. The 360 degree views are incredible. Be prepared for heat in the day/cold at night/since you’re on a mountaintop- wind. But the wind helped keep it cool. The site was pristine clean, & kindly set up before I got there. There is ample water with the water tank & host Islay has put out just the right about of home comforts.
2 chairs on a mountain top.
A dining table on an overlook.
A string of solar lights.
A mirror to reflect the sunset behind you.
A metal bath tub with cool water perched above sweeping views.
A fire pit (when safe for fire).
Plenty of room for trail walking, critter watching, so much desert floral & fauna to observe!
If you want the view, the quiet, the terrain, the stars to be your focus- this is it.
I brought my paralyzed dog who did great & we both slowed down & hit reset & can’t wait to be back & spend a weekend playin wannabe desert rats.
