In 2013, we bought our 13 acres from a larger parcel of land that had been owned and farmed by the Snider family for 150 years. (Note that we live on Snider Lane). The Sniders played an important part in the development of our town, Lucas, and surrounding schools. The rest of the land has been sold to two families, and all three purchasers (that includes us!) are establishing small family farms. Hurray! Plus the Snider's old house and barn next door are being renovated by the new owners!
Since 2013, we have brought in water and electricity to the land, built fences, a house and several barns. We have 2 chickens, Ethel Merman and Wynona Wyandotte, with plans for more this coming spring, a bunch of loud, nosey Nubian dairy goats, 6 cats and 3 dogs. We've started year round vegetable gardening and planted some fruit trees.
