An authentic Irish country town camping experience in the heart of Australia.
Early Irish settlers brought their love of the Emerald Isle to Australian soil back in the 19th century, and the small town of Boorowa still has a distinctly Irish influence. Three “Shamrock Trails” link all of the town’s heritage sites; St Patrick's Catholic Church is an important community centre; and the biggest annual event is the Irish Woolfest, which includes a “Running of the Sheep” through the main street. But tucked away in the Hilltops region, just a 1.5-hour drive north from Canberra, Boorowa is not just a place for Irish dancing and Guinness. Campers can check into a Boorowa caravan park or tourist park, park their campervan at a Hipcamp on Wombles Common, or stay at a local farmstay or homestead. It’s also a great base for exploring the Hilltops Food & Wine Trail, which includes delicious cherries (neighbouring Young is the “cherry capital of Australia”) and cool-climate wines.
