The best part is no long walks, you can park at the campsites and camp on flat ground. Each campsite features chairs, a bench, a swing and a camp cooktop that is fueled by your campfire. Nothing is needed to use the cook tops other than a campfire. The local area has lots to do. Several National Parks, rivers and trails. What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. The bunkie cabin was exactly what I needed during my visit to WV. The bed was comfortable, the sunrise was beautiful, and the location was incredibly convenient. John (host) gave me great recommendations on where to eat and what to do for fun. So much so that I extended my trip an extra day! I ran into John out and about and could really tell that he is apart of the community. I would highly recommend this campsite to nature lovers that like a little extra comfort. I can’t wait to visit again!

The bunkie cabin at Hilltop Sunrise has genuinely been one of my favorite places I’ve stayed. The bunkie was homey and had all the necessities for our stay. It was the perfect mix of camping and comfort. Our host, John, was beyond kind, gave great recommendations for the area, and answered any questions we had promptly. I am already thinking of my next trip to WV and will absolutely stay at Hilltop Sunrise again!

I loved it! The vibe was just what the doctor ordered. The heater took the chill off the bus quickly and once it had my twinkle lights up, I felt right at home. I liked how the place felt tucked away but was easily accessible to the outside world. Loved all the paintings and quotes in the inside of the bus. Recommend bringing enough lighting for what you want your experience to be inside the bus, they provide a nice automated light when you open the bus door to get to the Porto potty, the rest is up to you! The bed is solid and everything was clean and ready for a wonderful night off the grid! Enjoy!

Weekend Trip to Stay by the New River

Stayed here for my second time, just as impressed as I was after my first visit. The land is close to the National Park with proximity to and a beautiful view of the New River. With the heater and fan within the shack any temperature for sleeping can be found. The cots are comfortable and the bathroom is clean. Met the host this trip and she was very nice and accessible. There are chairs and a fire pit along the bank of the river that provide a wonderful sunset experience. Just know once the sun goes behind the mountains on the other side of the gorge it can get chilly, even on a warm day. I will continue to heavily recommend this site and plan to return.

All around 10/10 for the price you are paying. A bed to sleep on, solid roof over your head, and a bathroom with a shower. Can’t complain about that. It’s really close to Hinton and some really neat hiking trails. The host is kind and open. Only complaint that can be brought up is the railroad that passes right by the property a few times during the night but is nothing more than a minor annoyance. Gotta love trains. The view and direct river access is to die for. Watching the sunset over the mountains and looking at the river right infront of us was amazing. Sure it’s a little unconventional. But I fully plan to return and have already recommended this site to others.

What a peaceful place to spend a weekend at! My partner, our 2 dogs, and I had such a relaxing stay at The Lee farm in the glamping tent. The cows were so fun to watch and listen to! Theresa is a wonderful host who is such a pleasure to chat with. We enjoyed exploring with our pups, laying in the hammock, and stargazing. We were grateful to have almost all the amenities we needed on site so that we didn’t have to pack too much since we visited from out of state. It was a bit chilly overnight when we stayed for a mid October trip, and the comforter in the tent was so luxuriously cozy and warm, we didn’t feel cold at all while sleeping! It was nice to have a real bed instead of our camping pads for once. Glamping at its finest!

Amazing guest and amazing communication. The place even had an amazing propane heater and hot water to take shower. Excellent location. The place is a little hard to find but if you’re coming off interstate 81 just find Bojangles and go past Bojangles(comes to your left) into the small town and take the first left at the first red light. You will see the gravel road to your right right there.

4 nights at W.T. Farm?

I'm so glad we stayed here. This was such an incredible place it really feels like a hidden treasure. Incredible views EVERYWHERE. We came here specifically for the stars and milky way, which were amazing, but the fall colors really stole the show. This was the most wildflowers I've ever seen! Goldenrod in every direction. We were also completely alone here and there's plenty to explore. This is our new favorite place!
