The Farm was originally named 2nd 4o by my parents. They planned to live the 2nd forty years of their lives together on the farm. My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. This did not last long :) but the saplings my dad planted by hand are still here & maybe 70' tall! Then my husband & I bought The Farm in 2017 for the 2nd forty years of our life & my parents built their little house right here. My husband and I immediately knew that our dream was to grow a different kind of "tree", so in 2019 we were among the first group to receive our license to grow hemp. We are passionate about both the hemp and cannabis plants! In 2020 when it finally became legal to grow cannabis, we immediately added that to our garden as well and 2nd 40 to 420 was born, or shall I say planted. We currently rent out our 2 RV's 3 Yurts & primitive sites , we also offer group bookings & Canna-friendly B&B options. We plan to add septic & electric hook-ups for RV's in the near future. Wolftrap Farm was owned by James & Dolley Madison during their time, and they called it Black Meadow. Their home, Montpelier, is just across the mountains you see from the campsite. It passed through the hands of various local farmers during the 19th & 20th centuries, and for many years was a dairy farm. It became primarily a horse farm in the 1970's, when it was owned by the German Von Wulffen family.The Cuthrell family from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area acquired the farm in 2003 and converted it to a resort farm, featuring upscale vacation homes. Beginning around 2013, the farm started morphing into primarily a wedding venue, and now hosts over 60 weddings each year.

(Though, for the record, we wear Birkenstocks too.) • “We were seen in towels.” Hmmm… which is why we gently suggest skipping the towel parades through camp. Our enclosed shower stalls are there for a reason: shower, dry off, then get dressed before rejoining the great outdoors. • “It was in somebody’s backyard.” Sorry — our two acres aren’t tucked away in the middle of a federally protected reserve in the middle of nowhere. But our closest neighbor is nearly 300 feet away, and we happen to think riverside camping with a little civilization nearby is a pretty great trade-off. ⸻ If those realities feel unacceptable, we wish you luck finding a soundproof, neighbor-free, bird-mute utopia. But if you’re after a laid-back, laughter-filled, and unapologetically outdoor getaway on the banks of the South River — welcome. You’ve found it. Don’t forget your robe.

Definitely recommend. The family is inviting and the property is gorgeous and unique. Ask for a tour if you have a minute - well worth it to see and hear about the thoughtful design of the property. The tent is back in the woods - private and cozy. Perfect little overnight

We love camping here! The bell tent is great. The camping pad/mattress was made up with pillows, sheets, and multiple blankets. There was fresh wood and kindling for the fire. The string of solar lights is a nice touch. We’ll definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to South River Camp

This was an excellent stay. I stayed here for a beautiful weekend with my girlfriend (who became my fiance on this trip!) and our dog. Highly recommend this for your fun weekend getaway. The site was private and spacious, next to an easily accessible creek, and had plenty of room for the doggo to run around. The hosts were extremely friendly and checked in on us at the start of our stay in case we needed anything. The yurt was very comfortable and had no issues withstanding a night of rain. Stay here for your next weekend getaway, plenty of trails/hiking are a very short drive away!

Great site, quiet and spacious, beautiful views of the mountains. Clean restroom/shower facilities conveniently located near tent. Tent setup was very comfortable with a bed, a/c, grill, table. Quiet, and loved having the horses nearby. Glad that there was a fridge to keep perishables, and other supplies like plates, etc. Ladies room was awesome.

Beautiful property, we felt very welcomed. They set us up with some prepared firewood and wax cardboard starter to have a bonfire. We had rain throughout the evening, but the tent stayed 100% dry in our comfy bed. Perfect stopover for our road-trip.

This is a beautiful farm. The setting was very peaceful. It was really cool having access to a full kitchen within just a few steps. The showers and restrooms were clean and convenient! As it ended up being near record breaking temps during our stay- our host Tina had the AC running in the tent, ahead of our arrival to help cool it down a bit. We look forward to visiting Wolftrap Farm during the fall season!

The camp site was wonderful. It is a very large site with all the amenities and the tent was large enough for us to fit an air mattress and dog bed. It was great to be right on the water and be near the boat landing. The hosts provided us with a water jug and had a porta John and sink nearby. Proximity to wineries and breweries was a plus for us. We will definitely recommend the site to our friends.

Totally awesome! My kids and I had a great time exploring the farm, ponds and swim hole! The bed in the tent was completely comfortable and it’s the perfect blend of an outdoor experience while not giving up the comforts of good night sleep. We will be returning.!
