Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line. Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit. About the property 20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking. Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. About the Property: Our quaint cabins sit on the rolling hills of our nearly 20 acre farm, where a creek sits at the base of the property leading to Little River. We are about 20 minutes away from the Appalachian Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway. There are plenty of opportunities to go hiking on and around out property, Little River allows for paddling and floating, you can go swimming and enjoy the outdoors - there is truly something for everyone! There are farm animals on the property, and we encourage you to enjoy some farm fresh eggs from our chickens! The property is also a quick 10 minute trip into town - the musical and artistic Floyd, VA - where you can find a grocery store and some restaurants as well. We hope you'll enjoy the peaceful setting, overlooking onto the creek, and our farm animals as much as we do! About the Listings: Creek View Cabin: The cabin has a cozy bed that sits in the lofted space (you will need to climb up a set of ladder steps to reach the bed), and a couch option on the ground level for sleeping accommodations. There is a unique cabin shower, a composting toilet, well and tap water available for campers, a wonderful Solo stove for you to build a fire and to cozy up near, and a picnic table for enjoying a bite to eat! A deck sits right outside the cabin that overlooks the creek, and will be private for you during your stay. We welcome your pets, just please ensure they are on a leash since there are other farm animals on the property. While the cabin is the only one on our property, and somewhat private, you may see the Hosts in passing on the farm. Additional Details to Note: - Check in is after 4pm and check out by 10am - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception is available on our property. The cabin does not have wifi. Feel free to unplug during your stay though! - This spot is family friendly, so feel free to bring the kids and furry friends if you'd like! - Fires allowed only in the Solo stove Please feel free to reach out with any questions and we look forward to your stay! Spring Side Cabin: The goal of our cabin is to give guests an up-close view of life on a farm :). The cabin is on the edge of our active family farm, and directly beside the dairy goat barn. We have a small herd of miniature goats you are welcome to visit with - chances are, they'll reach their heads over the fence for a pet :). Our livestock dog lives with the goats, and you will hear her bark. (We provide ear plugs in case of night time barking). The goats love visitors, so please let us know if you want to take part in the farming, or just give treats :). We are also happy to have our guests take part in some of the farm activities. Bring your sense of adventure, but please do not book if you will be bothered by goat sounds, a dog barking or rooster crowing! We want you to be happy wherever you stay! The cabin has a driveway to the front door and is accessible by 3 stairs onto the porch. It's perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring and listening to the quiet sounds of the country. We have found that our guests are interested in having some local amenities available upon check-in. We love to make our guests comfortable, so have put together a variety of packages for you to select from upon confirmation of reservation. (If you'd like to see the packages ahead of time, please just send us a message here). There is NO SMOKING on the property, inside or outside. On the main level of the cabin, you will find a kitchenette (compact oven, microwave, coffee pot, refrigerator and sink), dining/living area, the bedroom and bathroom. There is also a loft with an additional full size bed, accessed by a sturdy ladder. Please note that the cabin is on the edge of the woods, and you may encounter wildlife while here :).

I stayed at The Love Shack this weekend and had a wonderful experience. Wendy was a wonderful host—thoughtful, welcoming, and clearly dedicated to creating a beautiful space for her guests. She even cleared the leaves off the trail before I arrived, which made for such a lovely walk through the woods. I spotted a deer along the way which was nice. The A-frame shelter was cozy and warm. I enjoyed the most relaxing nap in the hammock. I highly recommend!

The shack itself was more spacious than I expected, and the setting was beautiful, were very grateful that Wendy would share her beautiful land with the public! Weekend Trip to Babbling Brook Campground

I loved spending several nights in the treehouse. I came prepared for colder weather so I had plenty of warm clothes, hand and feet warmers, and propane for the buddy heater and Coleman stove, both of which I used and appreciated. It rained during part of my stay which was magical on the tin roof. The creek babbled. I found dry firewood and kindling prior to the rain, and paired with firewood I brought I enjoyed several campfires. The water accessible pump/kitchen came in handy as the treehouse doesn’t have water or electricity. The attached compostable toilet was convenient and never smelled funky. The cabin is stocked with all the kitchen things you might want for cooking. There were plenty of blankets and I slept snug as a bug in the comfy loft bed. I did rescue a spider or two and released into the wild. As expected for a treehouse in their habitat. Parking for one car was convenient atop a walkway to the treehouse. I enjoyed a farm visit with Elizabeth and learned about her goats horses and more. Her dogs came to visit a few times. Overall I couldn’t have been more happy. It helped to come prepared for the cooler weather paired with Elizabeth’s thoughtful touches. While there are solar lights in and around the cabin, make sure to bring headlamps and/or other light sources. It felt whimsical and dreamy and I can’t wait to return. Thanks Elizabeth!

A really special stay. We were a group of friends from different areas and we loved staying here. Some of us camped and some stayed in the little cabin. The owners can’t be nicer. They’re responsive with communication and every detail is thought out. We had a toddler with us and she loved visiting the animals (horses, donkeys, chickens, goats…) BRP is about 40 mins away, and Boone is 50 mins away. Very convenient. We would love to come back. What a peaceful place to spend a weekend at! My partner, our 2 dogs, and I had such a relaxing stay at The Lee farm in the glamping tent. The cows were so fun to watch and listen to! Theresa is a wonderful host who is such a pleasure to chat with. We enjoyed exploring with our pups, laying in the hammock, and stargazing. We were grateful to have almost all the amenities we needed on site so that we didn’t have to pack too much since we visited from out of state. It was a bit chilly overnight when we stayed for a mid October trip, and the comforter in the tent was so luxuriously cozy and warm, we didn’t feel cold at all while sleeping! It was nice to have a real bed instead of our camping pads for once. Glamping at its finest!

The spot was even more beautiful than the pictures. Dave was helpful and great to talk to - he gave us the scoop on some plants on the property. We spent an evening cooking on the fire pit, snuggling the dog visitors, listening to the river trickle, and playing music. We were the only folks at the campground making it super private and peaceful. The bell tent was easy, spacious, and super comfy without being too fancy. As we went to sleep we heard a romantic train in the distance. Gratitude for sharing the space.

The tent and kitchen is equipped with everything you’d need and more. They gave us an in depth tour of the farm and flower patch and helped us take great photos. Another family was in the tent next door but there was no issue at all. A beautiful site and a great way to introduce my family to the outdoors.

We loved our stay at the Loveshack and if you’re thinking of booking this spot, DO IT! The property is stunning, with trails steps away from the Shack and a babbling brook. The bed slept wonderfully and even with 42° temperature nightly lows, we were comfortable with an extra blanket from home. Wendy is a wonderful host who is attentive and respectful. We also brought our beagle, who had a blast playing in the stream and exploring the property with us. Wendy also provided some boardgames and some basic cookware for guests to use as well, which came in handy when we realized our camp stove was broken! We couldn’t have asked for more relaxing, magical, and nature filled weekend. We genuinely cannot wait to come back!

Where to go

Claytor Lake State Park

Sweat on the trails, and then cool off with a swim in Claytor Lake. Reservations are required for tent camping, yurt, waterview cabin, and bunkhouse rentals by the lake, and they’re worth it—electric hookups and picnic areas are available at most on-site campgrounds. Check out private boat rentals at the marina for outings on the water. Anglers can also enjoy the fishing pier, while campers seeking scenery can hike Lakeview Trail for an easy walk by the lake.

Fairy Stone State Park

Known for the rare, tiny “fairy stones'' that fill the red sand, Fairy Stone State Park offers a beautiful destination for hiking, horseback riding, paddleboating, and swimming in the 168-acre lake. Tent camping, equestrian camping, and climate-controlled cabin or yurt rentals allow campers to stay overnight in the park, but cabins don’t include linens. Most campsites include fire rings and electric and water hookups. For a unique souvenir, walk to the Fairy Stone Pit Stop and hunt for fairy stones—each visitor is allowed to collect a few to take home.

Stone Mountain State Park

Just over the North Carolina border lies Stone Mountain State Park, home to the 600-foot national landmark that gives the area its name. Wander along hiking trails for waterfall views, fish for trout in streams, or go horseback riding on one of Stone Mountain’s many bridle trails. Electric and water hookups and a dump station make this park RV-friendly. Group and individual tent camping sites also offer showers and firewood.

Fall is the most popular time to camp near Fancy Gap, when bright colors decorate the forests and campers can relax in cool weather. In summer, temperatures average around 80°F. Campers can beat the humidity with a campground near the water for swimming, boating, and fishing. Most Virginia state parks are open year-round, so winter camping near Fancy Gap is also an option for campers seeking a quiet escape. Winter temperatures in the area average between 40–45°F.
