Whisper Creek was founded in 1999. It has been the gathering place for many great friends and camping adventures. WC can hardly be camping, more like Glamping!
This is a very private and quiet location. You can settle in knowing that this listing includes a covered picnic area. Which has counter space for food prep and cooking that includes a small sink.
But remember, it’s camping so you’ll need to come prepared with a camp stove for cooking, although I do have charcoal and propane grill’s at the picnic area.
Fire pit for awesome evening camp fires with free split firewood on hand. All I ask is that you burn it like you split and stacked it.
You can gather and relax under the covered picnic area for dinner preparation and/or lounging. We are located within an hour from Wintergreen, numerous wineries, craft beer locations and numerous hiking destinations.
Harmony Hut has fresh linens but please bring sleeping bags and/or sheets for the screened in bunkhouse.
River access to the James River is a short drive to Howardsville. There you will also find a General Store which offers you the basics, such as Beer, Wine, Ice and a few grocery items. They make the best homemade sandwiches and grilled burgers. Direct river access can be provided via special request. I can also provide shuttling services. But this needs to be mentioned well before your stay as I don't live up there year around.

We had a lovely trip!! James and Lynne showed us to the site and then we had the spot all to ourselves! Everything was clean and as advertised. There was a firepit with wood and a small grate, a single burner coleman stove with fuel, plenty of potable water, linens and blankets for the bed (though some of the blankets smelled a little like dog), a couple picnic tables and a trash can. The site is beautiful and the river was so nice to swim in when the sun was shining on it.

This was our 4th time camping here, and we keep coming back because it truly has everything we love in a campsite. The location is gorgeous and private, right on the river — perfect for tubing, fishing, or just sitting by the water with a chair and a drink. The firepit setup makes evenings extra cozy, and the tent deck is such a great touch (plenty of space and keeps everything nice and dry).
One of the best parts is how dog-friendly it is. Our pups run free in the open fields, splash in the river, and nap by the fire like they own the place 🐾. It’s so rare to find a spot where both people and dogs feel this relaxed. It’s the kind of place where you can totally unplug, laugh around the fire, and just enjoy being outdoors with family (and fur family).
After four visits, I can honestly say this is our go-to camping escape — peaceful, scenic, and full of little details that make it special every single time. Can’t wait for round five!

This has been the fourth or fifth time to the Hipcamp site and it never fails to please. Annual family fam-camp at Skipping Rock. The Wengers are just fantastic host for Skipping Rock and their other site, Honeysuckle Hideaway. Skipping Rock is just so relaxing. The boys fished all day. Smallies, Rock Bass, Suckers and Brim make for great fishing. Well stocked fire wood, abundant potable water, clean privy, and well kept platform tent makes it a place to relax and have no worries. The Wengers support your stay and are just the friendliest of people. Greeted with a hello, smile and a handshake. Just great people. There is fishing, but at night on a cloudless evening, the stars just light up the sky. Stargazing is a hidden bonus. Wildlife entails deer, Whippoorwills, and the rambunctious squirrel. Overall, a great stay to relax, bring the family together and enjoy nature.

I love this campsite! This is the fourth time I've visited this site and every time has been fantastic. The hosts have thought of everything you could possibly need while there-- camp stove and fuel, pans and utensils, wood, lighter and newspaper to start the campfire, tubes for floating the river-- you can really just drive up and have a relaxed stay. The campsite is very quiet and private and is the perfect getaway, being only an hour away from Charlottesville. We'll be back!

Awesome camp! The site is right along the river. Was awesome getting in and out as we pleased and water temp was really refreshing. We even tubed a little from the top of our site to the bottom (there were two tubes available at the site). The tent was so spacious, clean, well equipped with supplies, and kept us dry during a rain storm. Many birds visited camp including a screech owl in the middle of the night! We loved it, will definitely be back, and highly recommend!

I highly recommend this place. My grandson and I have stayed here every July since 2022. That’s four years as of this year. We keep coming back because the place is amazing. It’s a secluded campsite with a wonderful beach and river access. My grandson also loves to wander around the farm, play with Peaches the cat, watch the farm in action baling hay, and just enjoy the beauty, fresh air and sunshine. The owners are friendly and accommodating. Check it out, you’ll love it.

Weekend Trip to Glamping with room to roam.
Harmony Hut is a cute little bungalow that has a few of the creature comforts of home like AC, ceiling fan, TV and Internet, while leaving you with the feeling of being in the woods and solitude. The outdoor hot shower is an awesome touch, as is the picnic shelter for cooking and eating. Be prepared to get a few steps in, but nothing difficult.

I’m always worried about the fishing situation. No worries here. The stream is actually wider than it looks. It takes a full cast to barely get across to the other side. I’d say it is at least 7-8 feet at the deepest points. I caught 50-75 fish in 2 days. Mostly smallmouth, but also caught sunfish, rock bass and one of the biggest chubs I’ve ever seen. Everything else was top notch. Shade, water jugs, wood, fire starting supplies, kerosene burner, cooking supplies, porta potty, clothesline, lanterns, inner tubes, games and more. Show up and have fun!
