Deer, Racoons, Opossums, Bobcats, Bear, Fox, Groundhogs, and Turkey have been spotted on the property. We are a great spot for bird watching as well! Camp Grassland: Two of our prepped campsites are on a flattened area of the hillside field with access to a fire pit, log bench, and porta-potty. This location is in direct sun with beautiful views and easy access from the road. Parking at the top of the field is recommended unless you have a 4WD vehicle. Farmhouse Holler: 2nd Campsite is located next to our old farmhouse on a lower section of the property. Its near the natural spring and is shaded. There are no convenient bathroom facilities at this location so it is recommended to bring your own. Reaching the porta-potty would require an extensive uphill hike or driving around to the other entrance. To reach this campsite, the driveway could be considered rough terrain so drive slowly. Lowered vehicles or those with little ground clearance are not recommended. Each campsite has a max occupancy of 2 people. If you need space for more campers, please reach out to us about how many are in your party. We can host groups with advanced notification. Overlanding vehicles are welcome. Attractions: If you are looking for birds-eye view of the area, visit the Mendota Fire Tower only 3.2 mile away. You can see it from the farm and see the farm from it. It's about a 15 minute hike from the road. You can choose the mildly challenging way up or take the old roadway for a smoother walk. Clinch River is only 20 minutes away. Cool off in the river or enjoy kayaking and tubing opportunities from Clinch River Adventures. Closest convenience store is about 15 minutes away. Closest Grocery store is about 20 minutes away. Strategic Location for peaceful camping with lots of nearby options. Camping is very primitive and rustic as new amenities come online in planned future. The best time of booking is the weekend at present. We have: Wooded/Grassy hills with plenty of tree cover and open space to spread out . A uniquely positioned community fire pit is available with an impressive view. It is very rustic and primitive, but well kept, quiet, secluded, with developing surroundings. There is direct access to Jefferson National Forest and miles of hiking, biking and horseback trails. Equestrians encouraged, but is Bring your own horse and Tie Line. Nearby sites include Bark Camp Lake, Guest River Gorge, Bear Rock, Little Stony Falls, Chief Benge Trail, Devils Bath Tub, and High Knob. We are also located along several driving and scenic routes to include: Backroads of the Cumberland's, Appalachian Backroads, Virginia Wildlife and Birding Trail, and Thomas Jefferson Scenic Byway (Rt. 72). In addition, within a short drive there is an ATV trailhead in the local town. The Clinch River is not far at all as well. There is a small quaint downtown less than 5 miles with grocery, gas, supplies, and a few places to eat. Mission: The original idea for CR Adventure Outpost came many years ago. We grew up visiting "Grandma & Grandpa" in Wise County and developed a deep love for the area, the outdoors, and all it had to offer. There came a point, , when we realized that the amount of outdoor activities and authentic cultural experiences could indeed support visitors. It could also support many business opportunities once everyone became aware of what was all around them. At that point, a process began of research and planning on ideas some thought were pointless. People deeply want to get back to nature and withdrawal from a fast paced materialistic society, at least long enough to realize what is really important in life. Our glamping utilizes solar energy for eco-friendly camping providing interior lighting, and 4 USB ports for phone charging, bluetooth speaker usage, etc. We are a working farm which means you may hear some farm equipment, cows mooing, goats, chickens, etc. We provide chicken and goat treats in case you would like to interact with a few of our farm animals. Parking: Convenient parking is located next to the A-Frame The A-Frame has a propane space heater, we will provide you with 2 full 16 ounce propane cylinders that combined will heat the space for approximately 10 hours. If you need a refill during your stay we ask that you please refill the tanks or upon request we can provide you with 2 additional 16 ounce cylinders for $15.00. We provide a bundle of wood for the the outdoor fire pit and have more wood bundles available onsite for $5.00-$10.00 per bundle. We sell 10lb bags of ice for $5.00 and provide a cooler on site complimentary along with coffee, hot cocoa, creamer, sugar, oil, single burner propane cook stove, cooking ware, dining ware, shampoo, conditioner, soap, bed linens, pillows, sleeping bag, towels, bug spray, TP, solar powered phone charger, metal roasting sticks, LED lanterns, board / card games, and lighters. I would consider our homestead very mature from the standpoint of organic food production. We have been here 13 years developing the infrastructure. We raise three different kinds of heritage animal breeds as part of our permaculture regime - rabbits, chickens & pigs. I help found the Appalachian Homestead Association where we help teach people to raise their own food on a small homestead and learn what grows well locally. I teach permaculture and we have an extensive permaculture setup. We have large fenced garden using raised beds & low tunnels, as well as a year round greenhouse. We also have large growing spaces outside the fenced garden. We make extensive use of leaves which we collect from our woodland, then shred, then compost and finally filter thru a trommel I designed. We use the fine leaves as part of our soil block mix and larger leaf fragments for mulch. We use the 21 day fast compost method. Our pigs are the American Guinea Hog which is the original homestead pig dating back to the beginning of the US. They are very docile and friendly, small compared to commercial pink pigs. They forage on grass and acorns vs rooting like many other pig breeds. We also free range them. We are members of the American Guinea Hog Association. We recently purchased a bandsaw mill to utilize our woodland to construct additional building on the homestead and are now constructing a solar wood kiln for drying the sawmill output. Organic methods: We follow the Intelligent Gardner for soil health. We make heavy use of companion planting to deter pests. Certifications: we are organic in practice, but not certified Internet access provided, we have very high speed fiber connected wifi.

Bring your sleeping bags/linens, pillows, towels, food-n-drinks, and your all set. Campsite includes outhouse with water hook up (hot showers!) and camp potty. Our property is half pasture and half forest with many old logging trails recently opened for hiking. You'll love the gorgeous, long range mountain vistas, and viewing ample wildlife. Its a great place to see the stars at night and enjoy the serenity. Come relax in farm country just minutes to the birthplace of Country Music, downtown Bristol TN/VA. A six mile drive gets you to the fun, where one side of the street is Tennessee and the other is Virginia. Lots of great History and Southern Hospitality: Restaurants, Breweries, Bars, BBQ Joints, Music, etc. And more "Retail Therapy" and "Eats" are available at The Pinnacle, just 1 exit away (about 5 minutes).
