We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

Both sites are fantastic. Amazing views from the summit, and the cabin at the small site is super cozy. Dave was very helpful and gave great recommendations for both great hikes and cool things to do in the towns near the site. I would absolutely stay here again.

Weekend Trip to Opequon Quaker Camp @ Rolling Ridge

The lodge was great for a mixed aged group and was well stocked for a place tucked in the woods. That said, some of the kids were not used to being surrounded by so much nature and had issues adjusting to sharing space with bugs. So maybe talk to them about the difference between hotels in a city and lodges in the woods. ;-)

Secluded and just what I needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I plan to go back soon. Thank you for sharing your place, Dave! The last stretch to the property is unpaved road, so you’ll need to have AWD or 4WD.

We had a wonderful experience staying at The Lodge at Opequon. The environment was peaceful, family-friendly, and surrounded by beautiful nature. The facilities were clean and well maintained, and the overall atmosphere made it a perfect place to relax and enjoy time outdoors. It’s a great spot for families and anyone looking for a calm and refreshing camping experience. We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to friends and others looking for a memorable camping getaway.

Weekend Trip to Camp Kilo

A beautiful mountain escape backing right up to Shenandoah National Park. The setting alone makes this place feel special, and the cabin absolutely lives up to it. The drive in is about 15 minutes along a dirt road with a steeper final stretch, but it’s very manageable and worth it for the privacy. You’re also only about 25 minutes from the Swift Run Gap entrance, making park access easy. The cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The mountain themed decor made it feel warm and inviting, the cots were surprisingly comfortable, and having dog beds already there was a huge bonus. Our dogs loved it. If the upper tent campsite isn’t booked, which you can reserve as well, you might have the opportunity to hike the half mile trail up to it and take in a gorgeous overlook. It’s about a 30 minute uphill hike with roughly 500 feet of elevation gain and well worth it. We stayed during some on and off rain and still had a great trip. Even without a view at the top, it was still a really enjoyable hike. The nearest grocery store is about 25 minutes away in Stanardsville at the Greene Great Valu, which was convenient for anything we needed. Make sure to check out South River Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfall hikes in Shenandoah National Park. Overall, a peaceful and scenic stay. We would definitely come back!

Was an amazing campsite would 100% recommend. Easy to chat with but would recommend having a car good a taking deep bumps and incline but my Honda civic made it up fine as long as you drive the throttle easy. Owners are great people and made our trip easy

Loved my little cabin - I was greeted upon arrival by the cutest puppy- the bed in my cabin was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. It was very quiet except for animal sounds which were relaxing. Everything was cozy and perfect. 10/10

Amazing little area of land, spending the night there was wonderful! It was great to escape the city and see the stars in the sky for once! The hosts have done a wonderful job making this a little get away on the mountain and I'd love to come back!

4 nights at Harpers Ferry Cabin W/ Steam Shower

Really enjoyed the cabin in Harper's Ferry. It was peaceful and quiet in the area. The cabin itself was clean, neat, and comfortable. It was lovely sitting in the sun room and reading a book in the comfy chair. My husband walked up to the Appalachian Trail from the cabin! It is a short drive to Harper's Ferry and other areas. I would recommend that anyone to stay here, families, couples, and grandparents. It was lovely.

The camp was great, it was a good option for someone looking for a cheap shelter. There was no electricity in the cabin, but then again there's no electricity in a tent either. Dave built an amazing trail going up the mountain behind the cabin with an excellent view of the valley.

Weekend Trip to Fat Owl Farm

This cabin was a gem! Just did a short overnight to get close to Shenandoah, but I honestly could have stayed there for days. It's a rustic one room cabin that's perfect if you want a quiet, unplugged existence. Would be great for a meditation retreat or writing session- the small wood stove adds to the ambience for night reading, etc. Also, the collies were great greeters and companions, very sweet dogs.
