It overlooks the village of Chelsea, the shire town of Orange County. Free Verse Farm is a hilltop herb farm run by two art-making, herb-loving farmers. The property boasts twenty sloping, knoll-laden, open acres overlooking the First Branch of the White River as it passes through the scenic village of Chelsea, Vermont. We have incredible views, forest trails that offer magical woodland wanderings, and spacious campsites in our fields. We also invite you to explore our cultivated fields of herbs and vegetables and become acquainted with the wide variety of tea, culinary, and medicinal herbs that we grow and process on our farm. You can also visit with the cows that spend their summer munching our delicious green pastures. Our full line of herbs and herbal products are for sale via our website or at Free Verse Farm Shop, located just one mile from our farm in downtown Chelsea. Our Farm Shop offers a wide variety of fresh produce, provisions, fresh baked goods, alcoholic (& non-) beverages, and more to enjoy during your stay or as you continue on your journey. LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: We also run Free Verse Farm Shop (OPEN: Tuesday-Friday 11am-6pm, Saturday 9am-3pm), a local grocery, café, and apothecary to serve our community and visitors to the area, while supporting local farms and artisans. The village of Chelsea hosts a weekly summer farmers market May-September on Fridays from 3-6pm (mid-May through September). Within 20-45 minutes of our farm you can reach the larger towns of Montpelier (state capital), South Royalton, Randolph, Woodstock, White River Junction, and the Upper Valley Region (Dartmouth College), all of which offer a wide variety of attractions and services. Rustic, off-grid, tiny cabin on small farm. This 12x16 tiny cabin, sleeps 4-5. Has queen, full, and twin size mattresses. Propane heater(Mr Heater 18,000btu) to stay warm on chilly winter days/nights. Linens are provided. Solar generator provided. Compost toilet(bucket/sawdust) in cabin. Fire pit, wood fired hot tub(open year round), outdoor shower(spring-fall). Outdoor kitchen setup with sink, charcoal grill and Coleman 2 burner propane stove. 3 gallons potable water available, 5 gallons water available for kitchen, 2 gallons available in bathroom. We are located in the High Peaks of the Adirondacks between Lake Champlain and Lake Placid. The area is legendary for a multitude of hiking trails, mountain biking, and lakes/rivers for paddling. There are amazing natural environments such as Ausable Chasm and it's also an area rich in American historical sites. We are centrally located making area events and popular destinations an easy drive. We are also close to Rt 87 for ease of access yet far enough away to enjoy plenty of quiet and space in nature. The 2 RV site areas are very large with ample space for large RV turnaround and parking for vehicle. We are 300 feet off a road and are surrounded by small hamlets and villages within the park. There is so much to do in this vacation wonderland. Enjoy local breweries and vineyards during your visit. In addition, most every drive is a scenic drive and traffic is almost nonexistent except in some areas during high tourism. You will love it here! We do! The Adirondack Park (ADK) consists of old growth forests that cover more than 100,000 acres of public land in the Park and we live in the park. The Adirondacks also includes the headwaters of five major drainage basins. Lake Champlain and the Hudson, Black, St. Lawrence and Mohawk Rivers all draw water from the Adirondack Park. Adirondack forests and wetlands filter and provide clean water for many communities in NY.

Lori and Ray are the BEST hosts! The site is very well maintained, clean and spacious! Their driveway is wide enough to accommodate even a large motorhome. When you get here Lori and Ray will be there to welcome you and are a wealth of information to the area and all the things to see and do. The site is set up to easily reach everything from your water, power, sewer and trash. The property is very private but yet a stone throw from town and just a 30 min drive to Lake Placid, Plattsburgh etc and some of the best apple orchards in the United States! The views are stunning and hiking trails galore. If you come here expect to see lots of wildlife grazing nearby and the night sky is amazing. We spent a month here and we can’t wait to come back, Ray and Lori were the perfect hosts, friendly, accommodating, and just the nicest people ever. Every year this will be our “go to place” and our hidden gem to escape every day life. We can’t recommend enough! They get five star rating from us!

Weekend Trip to Rooted Acres Farm

We had such a lovely stay here! The host was incredibly responsive to all our questions, and the cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It came with a portable heater inside that kept us warm at night (just remember to turn on the gas outside first!). Without proper winter clothing, it might be a bit chilly to stay here during the colder months, but we went toward the end of October and it was still perfect! And the hot tub!! Such a clever and wonderful addition! Just a heads up: you’ll need to build a strong fire to get it hot within about 3 hours, and you’ll likely want to make two fires - one for the tub and another to sit back and enjoy. Be sure to bring lanterns, as it gets dark pretty quickly once the sun sets. Even though we had cloudy skies, we could tell that on a clear night the stargazing would be incredible. The cabin is well-equipped with dishes and running water for light cooking, brushing teeth, etc. There’s also a small convenience store about 8 minutes away on the main road. Overall, we would highly recommend this place. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning!

I stayed two nights while exploring the trails and really enjoyed the view over the field with their horses during the day and the stars at night were amazing. The outhouse was convenient and clean as well. I definitely plan on returning someday soon!

Lori and Roy were fantastic hosts at Adirondack Magic. Upon arrival, they were very welcoming, and walked me through all the steps to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. They also provided me with information on what events were going on in the surrounding area which made me feel very connected to the surrounding community. After introductions, they were very respectful of privacy, and only reached out if there were important updates to be shared. They're proximity to the main hiking areas is so ideal, and its such a short drive into town to stock up on supplies if need be (hardware store, groceries, gas ect.). Lori and Roy even arranged an outing with myself and fellow campers, and drove us to a local brewery to enjoy some local beer, pizza and live music. such a fun experience! hope to be back soon!

We loved camping at Free Verse Farm! The area was beautiful and the view was stunning! They were gracious hosts and I would recommend this site to anyone for a rural getaway. One note: I drove in with a Subraru Impreza and did scrape the bottom of my car a little (no damage though), even going very slowly, on a few spots. I would suggest making sure your vehicle has enough clearance to make the drive up to the site. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay! The toilet is really cool and clean, too!

Very helpful in providing info on the area, showing how things work, doing whatever possible to make things convenient (eg, they provided a pooper scooper to use!) etc. Their sites are nicely located, very flat and a great jumping off point to see Lake Champlain, Lake Placid and all the beautiful trails in-between. Overall, a very nice experience and we would definitely return.

Off season camping "under the pines" fires feel warmer when its cold out did you know, crickets still chirp though its cold young coyotes howling in the middle of the night like they are practicing for a holiday concert surrounded by woods and fields you don't much notice that dwellings are not far away except for the contented murmurings of horses the stars are brilliant and beyond counting at 5 am an owl cries Who...Who...Who....when I have to get up and pack it up to go to work. All due to the generosity of the non apparent Heidi, sharing her land. Highly recommended.

Weekend Trip to Free Verse Farm

I tent camped at the Forest Edge campsite and it was immaculate. Our hosts were very welcoming and polite, and they gave very detailed instructions on where to find everything we needed. The campsite is large and flat. We enjoyed seeing our hosts go apple picking on the land while we were there - there are apple trees everywhere! The view overlooks the small town of Chelsea below. I went in September, and I was able to drive my sedan all the way to the campsite. Our hosts were strict with their no-pets policy. We always take our cats camping, so this was disappointing. But I also get it - dogs interfere with their farm, and cats are unfriendly to insects and wildlife. We try to be as responsible with this as possible, but not everyone is like that so I would probably have the same policy that they do. It was very apparent to me that Misha incorporates highly sustainable and nature-preserving practices on the farm. It felt very nice to be in the company of folks who see land and other living things as something to live with and tend to rather than a thing to take advantage of. I will definitely be staying here again.

We loved staying at Free Verse Farm. We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful child and mother who showed us where to get water and where to shower and wash dishes. The camp site was very clean and tidy. The view was absolutely amazing and was worth every penny. It was very quiet and peaceful. Our hosts were extremely accommodating. I brought my newly pregnant wife for her birthday. If you are looking for a romantic spot to camp this is the place. We stayed the second week of September and the leaves are just starting to change. Beautiful spot. Thank you Free Verse Farm!!
