Desert Mountain Oasis
5 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents
10 acres · Fort Davis, TX
Mountain Trails Lodge was built in the 1930s as a drive-up motor court. It operated as a tourist court and restaurant through the 30s, 40s, and 50s. It has changed hands and been updated and renovated over the years. Most recently, it has housed Mountain Trails Lodge & Outdoor Learning Center and Come & Take It BBQ, leading educational tours and feeding groups delicious homemade meals in the historic dining room. Campers have access to a bathroom with shower that was part of one of the original motor court rooms, as well as a sunroom that was added on sometime mid last century.

I have owed this property for over 10 years. In the past, before I listed this property for camping, travelers would stop and ask to camp on my land. There are not many options for camping on this stretch of Hwy so I decided to offer up my place. So far guest have either loved it or hated it.

20 acres sitting just west of 9 point Mesa. 21 miles north of Big Bend National Park. My off grid cabin is also on site, but plenty of extra space. Located in the Chihuahan desert of SW Texas. Beautiful DARK SKIES area by 9 point Mesa. You are welcome to set up anywhere on my property. PLEASE keep vehicles on the drive, do not drive out across my land as the desert plant life is fragile. Gathering of wood and kindling not allowed, it needs to decompose in place in the desert to help hold dirt in place to build soil. THANKS. Outhouse with flush toilet available with greatly reserved flushes. (flushing must be reserved for solid stool, due to lack of rain which provides water here) Common/shared picnic table and fire ring available as well as individual fire rings at each site. Bring own water, firewood, No elec. Hookup available. This is a dark skies quiet zone. Bring own water to drink and cook. Water is very scarce in the desert. Septic dump available within 3 miles. Little Burro Country store is located within 3 miles for drinking water, food, propane, and campfire wood needs. BRING STRONG TENTS! PREPARE FOR OCCAISIONAL HIGH WINDS OF 20 MPH WHICH CAN AND HAS BROKENTENT POLES HERE. Large groups can camp here...plenty of space! Travel safe, arrive before dark or go to Little Burro Store which has open WIFI on their porch. NO WIFI IS AVAILABLE AT MY CAMP.
