Located just 2 miles off I-10, 8 miles to the West of Sierra Blanca, and 80 miles South/South-East of El Paso. This property is truly a part of the "OLD WEST". Sierra Blanca was named after Sierra Blanca Mountain, just North-West of town. The town came into existence when competing railroads for a second (Southern) transcontinental railroad line came within 10 miles of one another in 1881. Jay Gould, famous railroad magnate and robber baron, drove a silver spike commemorating the event on Dec. 15th 1881. The town sprang up around that spot, although the population didn't reach 350 people until 1914. It is best described as grazing land that is flat to slightly sloping terrain covered with desert sagebrush and grasses. Learn more about this land: Primitive campsites offer nice views, solitude, and a small flat space to set up camp next to your vehicle. No shade, toilets (bring your own), or other amenities are provided at this time but are in the works. Sierra Blanca has mild winters and very hot summers but the desert can get cold at night. The weather is generally sunny but come prepared for changing conditions. This is not a commercial campground. Site is great for large groups. Larger RVs have trouble turning or parking so please no rvs over 26 ft. Bring your own toilet. Wildlife include rabbits and hares, javelina, woodcock, teal, sandhill crane, quail, pronghorn, mule deer, duck, dove, rattlesnake, rails, gallinules, and moorehens, toads and a variety of lizards. Please be aware of the 3 day cancellation policy. A full refund may initiated if you cancel at least 3 days prior to arrival. Thank you.

41mi from Sierra Blanca · 11 sites · Tents, RVs · Dell City, TX
PT Ranch: People are Greater than Things. This is a great location for people to come and relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Nestled only 0.6 of a mile off of Highway 62/180 in Hudspeth County (On North Howling Wind Road), Texas, this Ranch offers four 30'x60' RV sites, and four 20'x30' RV sites. There is ample Hiking nearby (Sierra Tinaja Pinta, Cerro Diablo, and Miller Mountain in The Cornudas Mountains), and the site is only about twenty miles West of the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. When you need to reconnect with city life, El Paso is only about 45 minutes away, and the small town of Dell City is only 20 minutes away the county seat, Sierra Blanca, just 40 minutes away. We welcome Families, Meditators, Yogis, Saints and Sages, Overlanders, Hikers, Mountain Bikers, Motorhome Enthusiasts, Snow Birds, Sun Gazers, Bush Pilots, Equestrians, Paragliders, Baloonists, Kite flyers, and anyone who's out there to enjoy the natural beauty of West Texas and the world in general. We ask that our guests pack in and pack out what they bring. As we are a newcomer to Hipcamp, we do not have any RV hook-ups, or out-houses yet. We also explicitly request that our guests not bring any drugs or alcohol on the site--this is a dry listing--we don't like drugs and alcohol, they bring demons, and we don't like demons. Also, we support the Second Amendment, but ask that our guests not discharge firearms on the site unless it's an emergency. We love dogs, but if your dog is big and aggressive, not very obedient, and potentially dangerous to other people, kids, and small pets, we ask that you keep your buddy on a leash and make sure that he/she doesn't get into trouble. Thanks. P.S. P>T Ranch is a Private Member Association, owned and operated by a private trust, and all it takes to become a member for life is to book a night and complete your reservation.

Learn more about this land:This land is located on about 6 acres of Chihuahuan desert land, about 1 mile directly south of the old ghost town of Lobo (which is why this place is called South Lobo), which is about 17 miles south of I-10 at Van Horn, Texas. The Rio Grande valley is about 15 miles to the west of this site, and about 2 miles east is Chispa Mountain (about 1200 feet higher than the surrounding country). Some day I hope to operate a small interfaith chapel and emergency water station (this land is located about 15 miles as the crow flies from Mexico) but for now it is just a beautiful bit of country for camping. You can learn more about our mission by searching for "South Lobo, Texas."My pricing is per vehicle (since this is the most environmentally impactful thing that happens on this place), which means that primitive campers who are not parking on the property can camp for free (one extra camping space is reserved for primitive campers). There is no power or water on site and minimal shade. You are welcome to hike, mountain bike, explore, etc but ATV's are not allowed (except on the dirt road). This is also a great location for railfans (Amtrak goes through here six times per week while going between San Antonio and Los Angeles, but there is also some freight traffic) but also for stargazers and ham radio operators (very low electrical noise levels).Safety wise: The Border Patrol is frequently in this area, so please do not be surprised if they come by and say hello while you are camping. If they ask about your presence, tell them you are camping with the permission of the landowner. Other than the border patrol, you are unlikely to encounter any other people. The biggest danger out here is dehydration. Be sure and bring more water than you think you'll need as it is a long drive back to Van Horn. (and if you have any extra left, please consider leaving it behind for emergency use from refugees who may be passing through)Lots of things to see and do in the area --- Van Horn is a nice town (with some decent food, stores, etc.). The famous Prada Marfa isn't far away and of course there is the ghost town in Lobo (where they occasionally have film festivals and other events). Lots of folks pass through this area heading to Big Bend and other points further out. Please do your best to clean up your camp site when you leave so that this unique landscape will be preserved for future visitors to see and experience.

8. Lobo Flats

We close for the summer. We will re-open mid-August or when daytime temps are consistently below 95 degrees. Flats is located conveniently off a paved road about half-way between Van Horn and Valentine. 20 minutes from Valentine and the Prada Store, 50 minutes from Marfa 60 minutes from Davis Mountains State Park 75 minutes from Guadalupe Mountains National Park Visitors Center 3 hours from Panther Junction Visitor Center in Big Bend Although our property is only five acres, we have no close neighbors. You can see a few other homesteads from here, many of which are unoccupied. For the most part it is very quiet, with only a handful of vehicles passing by on any given day. We have stars, rocks, views, solitude, and art. Within view of the property are Matthew Grey’s large-scale sculptures Broken Mile and Mile Dark, with a third sculpture underway. We are also in the process of installing our own installations on the property. We are an off-grid property running on well water and solar with a backup propane generator. Please keep in mind that our sites do not have unlimited water and electricity, and that you may hear a generator at times. We have a great setup here, and we enjoy the simplicity that comes with this lifestyle. With that said, this is a campsite, not a glampsite. Lobo Flats is Marfa’s dusty, crusty cousin and we like it that way. The campground is a brand-new endeavor; we welcome feedback as we refine the off-grid experience that we share with campers. We are an introvert friendly establishment, and while there will typically be someone around to help during your stay, you will have all the privacy you desire.
