Only an hour from Houston and one hour and a half from Austin, yet a world away. Plenty of side trips to see and do in the area such as a drive through wildlife park, painted church tour, wine tours and so much more. Also only 30 minutes from Round Top/Warrenton which has now become a year around go to venue.

Hidalgo Falls Hideaway

The 13-acre park at Hidalgo Falls is owned by the Texas Rivers Protection Association. It is located on the Brazos River about eight miles from Navasota.TRPA ownership of this property guarantees access to this popular and unique river resource. For whitewater paddlers, it offers a class II rapid with numerous surfing waves, holes, eddy lines and play spots. For flatwater paddlers, it provides a convenient and secure access point for float trips along a very historic stretch of the Brazos as well as a place to learn swiftwater techniques and rescue skills. In the four miles downstream from the rapid archaeologists have unearthed mastodon bones from the riverbank, and the remains of an early 20th century lock and dam system still loom large in the river. All of this is just upstream from Washington on the Brazos State Park, birthplace of the republic of Texas. Stephen F. Austin is said to have crossed the river often at Hidalgo Falls. It is also said that you could tell if you had a knowledgeable riverboat captain if he could get his boat upstream of the rapid and back down before the river level dropped stranding the boat upriver near Millican or Port Sullivan.The fast moving water and play features of the rapid are rarities in this part of the state. During the year volunteer fire departments in the region use the falls for training firefighters in swiftwater rescue.A 2 mile hike and bike trail are being worked on now and will soon open. Volunteers are always welcome!

Horse farms and horse boarding near by. Eight minute drive to rural grocery/gas/meat market and Dollar Store. 30 minute drive to several rural cities with golf and box store amenities. Cats inside. Please drive and park only along the perimeter of the property, not across the middle of the field. That field is being grown for hay. Upon entering the property, go straight or turn right and follow fence and/or tree line to a camping spot of your choice. Again, please do not drive across the middle of the field at all. Thank you! No fires are allowed on the ground. Fires need to be off the ground. Fires need to be monitored. Please bring your own firewood. Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed or on a tie-out, and cannot be left outside unattended. Nearby on the same road is Family Farm for strawberry picking. Also nearby is Bernhardt Winery (free live music, family and pet friendly) and DeepRoots Vineyards (with big concert venue).
