It's a mountain or some may say a hill. We call it a mountain because of the rock bluffs, cliffs, and dramatic nature of this spot. As such, there are cliffs you could fall off, trails that are difficult and dangerous at times depending on your hiking skill level. Get the best sleep of your life on a Nectar mattress with the sounds of the creek drifting through the window. NEW this year - 125-yard golf driving range available. Golf balls provided. Bring your clubs! Guest access Guests have a private cabin all to themselves. They may feel free to wander around the property, venture onto the walking paths, walk in the creek, etc. The only space that is off limits is my cabin down the creek. Of course, if there is some kind of emergency, feel free to come find me. Other things to note While pets are allowed, there will be a $25 charge per day/per pet, paid to hosts upon arrival. I have a very friendly dog of my own on the property who free-roams. Also, if guests leave their pets in the cabin while they are gone, the pets must be crated. Inside the cabin, the bathroom is equipped with an Incinolet toilet. I find that it is quite efficient if used properly. Instructions will be given upon arrival and are included on the wall in the bathroom. We can only accommodate TWO guests at a time in the cabin due to the Incinolet's capability.

As such, there are cliffs you could fall off, trails that are difficult and dangerous at times depending on your hiking skill level. We loved it! The cabin is cozy and cute! Plenty of hiking onsite and friendly dogs/cats to keep you company! Helga was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed. She gave great local recommendations and even had fire wood ready for us on arrival! This was great because it had rained the day prior and we had dry wood! The hiking on her property is beautiful. Weekend Trip to Beech Hollow Hideout
This was a camping trip I'll never forget. William was such a kind and hospitable man, his property was nothing short of breathtaking. This place was a great escape from 9-5 city life and I can't wait to return. Don't ignore other reviews about how steep the small trek up to the shack is! It's a short walk but very steep and uneven/rocky ground. Make sure you wear good shoes/boots! Rocket and Bo 🐕 we're the sweetest dogs and great company when they weren't busy chasing squirrels. I very much enjoyed the hike along an old logging road on Will's land, about 1.5 miles and took me less than an hour at a slow pace, saw deer tracks and the deer that left them about half-way through. It was such a beautiful and peaceful hike; I wish I looped back around to make longer! There were no mosquitoes or ticks to be seen but be prepared for lots of Chinese lady beetles (look like lady bugs but are very invasive and annoying!) And stink bugs, if you come in the fall or spring. The shack had bedding, an amazing wood stove, cooking/art supplies, books and much more. Again, Will was so gracious and hospital. He checked in on me by msg in the mornings, showed me around his woodworking studio and informed me about his property and animals. His artwork is truly something else, the man is a real artist and beautiful soul. I bought a cutting board and Will picked me some greens from his garden before I left. I would highly recommend staying here and can't wait to return myself!

Wow! My boyfriend and I came out to William’s land after needing a break from living in the city. I’ve never done Hipcamp before so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was absolutely serene and the perfect reset. Our only regret is not staying more than one night to fully unplug. We will be back - and will pack MUCH lighter next time for the hike up the hill! Such a haven!

Weekend Trip to The Home Place
We had a great time at Hawk's Nest. It was so peaceful and private. We packed a lot of our camping gear, just in case, but barely need to take anything out of the car. Our dogs loved running around and exploring. The bedroom was comfortable and we stayed warm even though the nights were chilly. The location is perfect for hiking. We were able to make it to both Burgess Falls and Rock Island. We hope to make it back and stay longer next time.

We enjoyed our stay at Hawk's Nest. Dan and Jo were super to visit with and very accomodating. It was a pleasure to be on their beautiful farm and feel so warmly welcomed. The wild life around the property is amazing. We saw possums, a marching procession of armadillos, the friendly dog Martin, racoons, and heard so many owls at night. I recommend it for a camp get away that will get you super close to Cane Hollow Rec area where you can access the lake and kayak up to the base of Burgess Falls.

Host William is amazing. Very friendly, definitely the spot for “off the beaten path” travelers. Everyone is correct about the hike- its ROUGH. Rougher than i anticipated 😂 If you're used to that & the elevation, totally fine. The place itself is amazing. Had a great time meeting William, the dogs who protected me all night, & walked me to & from the site, and Johnny the goat of course. Really really cool place, it was a great start to the roadtrip. What a cool and artsy place to spend the night! I was just looking for a place to break up a long drive, but I’d love to go back and settle into the property and the area for longer. Helga really makes the most of the space, is a great steward of the land, and is even an advocate for local artists. I was surprised the WiFi was as good as it was, and the available tea and popcorn were so thoughtful. Directions are easy, drive there is beautiful. Highly recommend.

The cabin has huge windows, so you feel like you are floating in the forest. There were fireflies at night and it was absolutely magical! Plus, I loved cooking on the little woodstove. A tip with the directions: there is a huge sign off Highway 70 that says New Frontiers and that’s where you turn off. It’s right by the Dry Creek Bridge.
