The Space:
The Rowdy Bear is an Off-Grid Cabin that is situated in the Great Smoky Mountains with easy access to both Bryson City and Franklin. The cabin itself was built using rough sawn wood acquired from a local sawmill. Many of the items used in the cabin came from local shops or antique stores.
There is a 2000-watt Solar Generator in the cabin that can be used for lights, charging cell phones, and running the pump for the shower. The Solar Panels are enough to charge the Generator to 100% each day.
Rainwater is used for showers. The gutter system on the cabin is used to catch rainwater. The downspout runs into a "First Flush Diverter", which allows any dust, dirt, or anything else that might land on the roof between the rainstorms to be diverted away from the water storage tank. The clean rainwater then fills the water storage tank. Be aware that Rainwater is fine for showers, but is not meant for drinking.
Propane is connected to a space heater and the shower. The space heater is 17,000 BTUs, which is plenty for colder nights. The shower has an at-source water heater and can heat the water up to 120 degrees, which is more than enough for a hot shower.
A porta potty is provided for bathroom purposes and is cleaned and restocked every Thursday.

Guest access
The Rowdy Bear is situated on 2.5 acres of land. There is a large section cleared off where the cabin is located. There is plenty of room for the fire pit, vehicles, animals, and any outdoor games you might want to bring (cornhole).
Both Bryson City and Franklin are fairly close to the cabin. Bryson City is approximately 20 minutes away, while Franklin is approximately 30 minutes away. Both towns offer great little downtown areas that have shopping and restaurants. Don't be afraid to try the food trucks, they have some of the best food.
Bryson City has many trails for hiking such as the Road to nowhere, Noland Divide Trail, Three Waterfalls Loop (FYI: There are three waterfalls on this trail), and Deep Creek Waterfall Loop. The fishing in Bryson City is also great and the guided trips are very reasonably priced. I would suggest going in the morning and doing a float trip.
Franklin is bigger and a little more spread out than Bryson city, but there are a lot of neat little stores and restaurants. I personally like going to the Currahee Brewing Company. Currahee is right on the river and is set up to host live bands and it gets pretty lively in the late afternoons and evenings on the weekends.
Other things to note
One of the things you would want to bring is a 1 lb propane bottle for the Torch that is provided. Using the torch to start a fire is much easier than kindling.
The solar generator has enough power to run the small coffee pot if you don't want to use the percolator. The generator also has enough power to run hair dryers. The main thing you want to keep in mind is anything that uses a heating element will drain the battery quickly. Lanterns are provided If needed. Overall, you should be good to go, but it is something to keep in mind.

Weekend Trip to Singletrack Shack
The shack was a nice upgrade from tent camping. Having access to electricity and water was convenient with the kids. We got in after dark the first night and Rick still met us over at the site to show us around and the next night he was kind enough to prepare the fire pit so all we had to do was light it when we came back. The outhouse was clean and nice. The boys loved the nature trails!

Weekend Trip to The Nest on Laurel Drive
The Nest was absolutely perfect for our weekend getaway in the mountains for my birthday. My partner and I felt very comfortably and well met by the amenities that this small (but mighty cozy and well set up) space offered. The shower was amazing after a day of hiking. We also appreciated the brownies and the comfy mattresses. Highly recommend for a practical yet romantic getaway!

Weekend Trip to Cold Spring Basecamp
The A-frame was comfortable, and I liked that the door was facing the creek. The sound of the water was peaceful. The A-frame was well stocked, and the land amenities were awesome. The bathrooms were clean, and we enjoyed the sauna and cold plunge. There were fireflies when we stayed. We'd love to stay on this lovely land again.

Very clean, very spacious and we felt very welcomed. My autistic niece was with me, if you have an autistic loved one you know how difficult traveling/staying the away from home can be. From stimming, to AWOLing, to places having very easily breakable Knick knacks everywhere 😭 I got to see my girl fully relax away from home, no one corrected us for her stimming or made us feel uncomfortable, enough space for her to run around, a creek to splash in, playground and toys for campers to use. We were embraced with open arms and we lovedddd it, highly recommend to anyone. You won’t be disappointed

Very organized and clean, solar lighting to light the paths, communicates easily, the cold plunge and sauna area is an oasis in the camp ground! The luxury bathhouse is wonderful! I found the outdoor shower the last day- my mistake! Tools in the cabin were a nice addition as i havent camped in many years! Comfy beds! We want to come back!

Very nice campground. Staff is very friendly and will look out for lone campers. They come by at least 2 times a day to check on everyone. Red cabin is just a bed but that is really all you need if hiking in the area.

Weekend Trip to Destination Outdoors! DO IT!
I had such a relaxing time! I stayed for just a couple of days. The hammocks are standard and there is a small mattress too. There is electricity by solar power and we didn’t have any issues with it at all. Make sure to bundle up to at night, of course!
You meet Matt at the start of the establishment and he’ll take you to the site. There is a nice bathroom at the start with ventilation, very clean, had a shower with shampoo, conditioner, body wash.
Perfect spot for river therapy and relax! I set up my own hammock by the water, explored the grounds and found a staircase that leads to a flat area with river access and a picnic table. Area is pretty shaded so it felt really nice!
There is a bridge and neighborhood nearby which I think you see from the posting anyways.

Weekend Trip to Cold Spring Basecamp
Awesome spot! Super clean and easy to access upon arrival. The lights are dim but a cool vibe for when the sun goes down. The waterfall hike is awesome as well! Would totally stay again !!

The cabin right on the river was comfortable and quaint, loved falling asleep and waking to the sound of the water and birds singing! The restrooms and showers were clean and lots of hot water. The property is amazing plenty of privacy between cabins. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. The trails were also good to hike in the mornings. Extra plus: the two horses on the adjoining property were so beautiful and friendly, we fed them bits of grass every day. Overall would definitely recommend if you are OK with roughing it just a little bit.

We had a great weekend staying in the Teela Springs Cabin at Cold Springs Basecamp! It was probably the easiest camping trip we’ve ever done as a family. No need for a tent or cooking gear since it was all included with the cabin. A great way to get outdoors and spend time with the family. The cabin had a lot of privacy compared to the other sites we saw which we really enjoyed.

The property is a gem in this area. The rustic cabin was perfect for our group. The facilities were impressive. Nicest campground bathrooms I have ever been in. The cold plunge and sauna was a nice touch and unique. There are trails on the property for hiking or biking and even a waterfall. Great place to base camp and would highly recommend to anyone!

Weekend Trip to 3 Creeks Camp and Nature Preserve
Damon was a nice host that offered assistance when needed. I stayed in the Creek Campsite and it was a joy! The property is beautiful and he has a web that was nice to sit on and look at the stars. Easy to navigate in and out of the site (even with a little sedan). Only stayed for one night, but it just so happened to be a night full of music and a light show.
