Perfect for me! As a mostly solo female camper I was very pleased to find such a safe and “still in the woods” kind of place. If you’re a tent camper and used to that kind of woodsy experience then this is a small step above that kind of experience.
Let me explain:
1. The shelter would be in lieu of your tent, but with some extra perks. It has windows that can be opened and also locked. It has a door that can be closed and locked. It has a porch with rocking chairs. And, it has a portable potty with all the necessary amenities! At first I was certain that I would not use it, but wow, it was easy to use and easy to clean up after. There is an also a privacy screen should there be more than one of you. If you are a solo camper then you know that not having to go outside in the middle of the night is priceless!
2. The surroundings are beautiful and with a creek right next to the shelter that provides creekside melodies nonstop. There is a lovely patio-type set up between the creek and the shed, which provides the perfect place for a morning cup of coffee or an evening fire.
3. If you are looking for privacy then I’d say the immediate area definitely provides that in a “nobody is watching you kind of way” or “walking past your tent kind of way”. The shed is placed about 100 feet away from your parking spot, up the hill and set in the woods. There are neighbors near by and a road that has the occasional car going by slowly. Mostly, you won’t see the cars but can hear the crunching of tires on the dirt road. Occasionally you might hear a dog barking, but it’s not close by and actually provided me some comfort knowing there was a guard on watch. ☺️
4. It does not include electric, currently, but an electric lantern is definitely enough light for the inside. I brought my own, but Sandra also provided a couple.
5. If you like still having cell phone service then you should be mostly okay with that. I could get service outside the shed, but once I closed my door at night it was a little spotty. Since I don’t usually get any cell service camping it was nice to be able to send the occasional “checking in” text. Make sure to charge your phone before arriving or bring a battery bank.
6. The location was perfect for my needs. It is close enough to go into the little Historic town of Sylva for some shopping and dinner, and only a 30 minute drive to Bryson City and the Great Smoky Mountains for some hiking. (There is also hiking closer by-ask Sandra for the list!)
Thank you, Sandra for sharing your little piece of Heaven. I’ll definitely be back! 🥰
