The history of the Pump House began in 1878, when three ambitious men hatched a plan for the world's first long-distance underground oil pipeline which would transport oil from well to refinery more quickly and efficiently than the horse-drawn wagons of the time. Pumping stations were needed every fifty miles along this long route to keep pressure on the pipeline so that the oil could reach its destination. Pump House Bed and Breakfast is one of the only properties in the country in which the both the original homes of the foremen and the large brick buildings remain. Doug, owner, has spent more than 20 years lovingly restoring these foreman houses as well as the large industrial brick buildings. The Brick Barn Hall once housed steam pumps to pressurize the pipe and keep the oil moving, and the Catawissa Cabin behind it served as the telegraph office. The Studio Hall contained boilers that produced the steam to power the pumps, while the adjoining Studio Cabin functioned as a blacksmith's workspace. I loved my stay in this cabin; everything was beautiful with the snow and very cozy. The only thing is that I went at the beginning of winter and it was very cold. If you're looking for a place without internet and want to be away from the city, it's perfect for you.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Mr ,Russ the GM. The cabin fire was prelit for us and it was really toasty. Thanks Russ! We recommend bringing lots of water and lanterns as there is no running water or electricity at the saw mill. This is a wonderful place to go and enjoy ,

We spent 2 nights and had a nice stay. It was cooler weather so not many people camping, nice and quiet. Rus who manages the campground was awesome. Friendly, helpful, fun guy. Some feedback for the Hipcamp listing, all we got was an address which lead us to a cabin a mile or so away from the actual site. We had to knock on someone’s door to get help figuring out where to go. I had messaged the host early in the day to let them know when we’d be arriving. No response.

Open field site with a lovely overlook of the river. I checked in at the main office, took the offer for their (permanent? sleeps 4-6) tent on the property, and the host even kindly helped jump start my car on my last morning as it had had some battery issues recently. Wifi available but spotty far away from the main office, I didn't have a chance to check out the bath facilities.

Great place to stay! Russ is a kind and patient guy I got to the campsite really late and still he met me there and showed me where I was gonna be staying and I really appreciated that! Lots of hiking and scenery, great patio on the back of the cabin, comes with a fridge and microwave for any food you bring. There is no insulation so whatever the temperature it is outside it will also be inside, except in the summer there is a window unit, and it’s a tin roof so rain is extra loud on the roof. Other than these things I would recommend anyone stay here for a weekend of solitude or a family getaway!

We had a fantastic Labor Day weekend in Cubby 1! It’s a very cute little cabin with a comfortable bed, back deck with a gorgeous view, and a nice little fire pit out front. Everything was super clean, and it was furnished with a fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, Keurig, and a few other kitchen appliances. No running water in the cabin, but there’s a spigot right out front with potable water. They also have a window AC and a space heater inside, which definitely helped a bit during the night when it was cold, even though the cabin isn’t insulated. It’s a huge step up from our normal tent camping, but still rustic and close to nature. We loved our weekend here and will definitely be back!

Doug and his cats were friendly hosts, and the campsite was beautiful! We hiked the trail in the morning and enjoyed sitting by the creek. I wish we had more than just one night to spend at this amazing place. I'm certain we'll be back! The historical significance is also super interesting, I'm grateful that such cool stuff is being cared for and preserved.

It was a nice solid comfortable cabin with a water pump, campfire, and sturdy picnic table. The bed was comfortable and there was a decent fridge. There was a crockpot, but it wasn't the best quality and heated up very slowly, so I would suggest chay that. The only problem with this site was the confusion when it came to actually getting there. The HipCamp instructions sent me to a location that was up the road and way up the hill from the actual location. Even after I was given new instructions in person at the upper location, it was still vague and confusing...and frustrating, given I had been driving for a very long time.
