Batwater Station is located halfway between Portland and the Oregon Coast on the Columbia River. A private refuge where river otter, beaver, mink, muskrat, seals, raccoons along with threatened Columbia river white tailed deer can be seen. Property has 1,000 feet of boat docks, river deck, and pier. At the pier is a full kitchen, heated bathroom and shower room. Included are 2 outhouses, a fire pit for summer months, a viewing station overlooking the wetlands along with brick charcoal fired barbecue and another propane barbecue. We are committed to your privacy so guests are limited and spread out. High speed internet through out the property. Batwater worked with several agencies when we breeched a levee and flooded 26 acres for salmon and wildlife habitat. Hike along the wetlands and see beaver dams and dens. Batwater is also home for many types of birds including eagles, osprey, tree swallow, purple martins, barn swallows, wood ducks, common and hooded mergansers, mallards, scoots, scaups, grebes, cormorants, great egrets, blue herons, geese and many types of song birds . In the spring and summer see our returning osprey who have. nested on our dock since 2013. There are now 2 osprey platform since a pair of Canada geese choose that as their nesting site as well. Some bald eagles winter here but we have our resident bald eagles Hep and Hope. They arrived in 2003 to start their nest on Crims Island. They still nest there although there old nest tree collapsed in 2020. Many birds migrate here for the winter. Common mammals are river otter, mink, muskrat, raccoons, nutria, coyotes, black tailed and threatened Colombia White Tailed deer. We also are home to native turtles and frogs. Batwater is a working farm with cattle feeding on lush pastures, 2 retired horses and chickens. When eggs are available, we will share some with you. Batwater is a great place to kayak, canoe, paddle board or row during the summer months. We have windy afternoons for windsurfers or sailors. The Columbia River is well known for salmon, and sturgeon. For an extra fee you can moor your larger boat while visiting. There are a volley ball and badminton set ups along with horse shoes during the summer months. We suggest swimming during the summer months when the tide is coming in or slack. You can also walk or drive down to Mayger beach which is popular with locals. There are sandy beaches on Crims island that you can paddle over too. Check out the pictures for more information.

Our retreat is just 45 minutes from Portland, yet feels a world away. You can relax in the quiet or explore the trail, the small towns that dot Highway 30 or head to the river. If you continue West on Highway 30, you will pass through many small logging towns, the old Trojan Nuclear site and eventually land in Astoria on the coast. Learn more about this land: Tucked Away Retreat is quiet and peaceful yet 45 minutes from Portland. Located on 4 private acres, watch the deer wander through the property or the hawks float overhead. Bring your bikes and hit the Crown Zellerbach trail, or hike it instead. We are located approximately 0.8 mile from the trail. Visit Sauvie's Island, the largest inland island in the United States. Large trailers/RV's and motorhomes will fit in Site B but you may need to back in. Site B is backed by our private, small shop. The two sites are separated by trees. Both sites have 120v, 30amp and water hookups. The property can accommodate one or two additional RV's in spots adjacent to both sites for multiple vehicle groups; contact us for more information if you are a larger group. Additional vehicles are an extra charge. Please be aware that we are RV only, we have no outhouse, so we cannot accommodate tents or folks who want to sleep in their vehicle. We will consider an exception if you have a RV/trailer and kids who want to sleep in a tent. Please reach out to us prior to booking for this exception. We do not allow "shower" tents. Welcome to Otter Pond! Our property is on the Toutle river. We are 30 miles from Mt St Helens Forest learning center and 15 minutes to Silverlake. Lots of hiking nearby, motorcycle track, drag strip and drift car track. Or just relax with the birds, deer, eagles, ducks, geese, rabbits, neighboring cows, beavers and otters that pass through now and then. You have acres to enjoy! Like your own mini campground. Half of our acreage is across the river-summertime is a great time to cross and explore! You can even walk up river and tube down. 1,000 feet of riverfront, a pond, horse shoe pit, charcoal grill, and 3 different fire pits for you to explore. If you rent the trailer and are over 6'1 you wont be a happy camper! You will enjoy bugs, snakes, spiders, deer, otters, beavers, mice, bees, chickens (including a loud rooster name Jack) We live on the neighboring property, but respect your privacy. We look forward to sharing our space with you! There is a pond and river with a slippery bank full of rocks on this property. The river is a short 5 minute walk. This campsite is rather large and is perfect for an RV. There is gravel under the grass. Lots of sun but no shade. This site can also get quite windy in the afternoon. This site is on the river and has 110 electricity and water. You have to back in or out.

We had a lovely stay on Karin's property! The RV spot sat right on the river with plenty of privacy, but still close to the bathroom/shower and kitchen area. Everyone was very friendly and happy to suggest things to do and see and the property had everything we needed! We loved swimming off of the dock, paddleboarding and watching the wildlife around the property. Very relaxing spot and would definitely come back to stay again.

Very private spot and very quiet. Big area to maneuver our travel trailer. Hook ups were a plus, adapters were provided and easily accessible. We enjoyed the view of the river from the upper site and also close up down right next to it. Trish was very responsive. We will go again when we can. We plan to bring our daughters and let them stay in the on-site trailer. it would be a great place for a family gathering.

Our stay at Trish’ was so relaxing , beautiful, fun, and enjoyable! She was the ultimate host! We had complete privacy, and she welcomed us warmly when we asked if we could visit with her at her nearby home. She left eggs, butter, firestarters, and snacks for us in her beautiful, completely renovated trailer! We camped in our own RV; she had full hook-ups for us! We floated down the river, then hung out in the water for several hours. We stayed cool in the 90 degree heat (there was a heat wave in Washington while we visited). This campsite was pristine, had a great view, and had wonderful outside seating, and a cool fire pit. We’ll be back!

Best HipCamp Ever! We stayed for almost a week and it was wonderful. Our rig is a 26' travel trailer and we fit perfectly. We had friends join us for a couple days and stay in the vintage trailer on the property. It was an ideal situation. We work from the road and used Starlink while on the property and it worked awesome. No issues at all. Trish and Kary are the best hosts and don't miss a single detail. We can't wait to return in the future!

1 night at The "Farmer-For-A-Day" Program

We had mixed feelings about this stay. While it’s presented as part of a farm, the actual camping area is quite small. The parking space is framed with logs, and our car barely fit — almost sticking out into the road. The listing says it’s suitable for RVs or trailers, but I honestly can’t imagine how they would fit here. The tent space is even smaller; luckily, we have a rooftop tent. With a large ground tent, setting up could be tricky. There’s no water tap at the campsite itself. It’s possible there’s one somewhere else on the farm, but the instructions didn’t mention where guests are allowed to go, and all gates were closed. Privacy is also a bit questionable — in the morning, cars drive right past the site, and farm visitors on tours have a clear view of you and your tent. The rules strictly say no noise after 10 PM, which we respect, but be prepared to be woken up around 5–6 AM by farm sounds. Overall, it’s not a bad spot, but it’s important to know these details ahead of time so you can plan accordingly.

Beautiful spot! Close to the reservoirs and lots of great hiking. The toilet and shower were a treat since we stayed for 4 days. Most of the spots were shaded and we never felt too hot even though it was July. Will likely return here again in the future!

Otter Pond was a great midweek get-away for us and our dog in our trailer. The site is well maintained and spacious. It was so relaxing to sit on the chairs overlooking the range to the river while sipping a cold beverage. The host gave us a swag bag that included dog treats and human snacks. Nice touch. This was such an amazing place to camp & play! We stayed 3 nights at Trish & Cary’s spot. Between the crystal clear river to play in, the acres to meander and explore, and three fire pits placed all around the property: this place is amazing! Full hookups for our toy hauler were the icing on the cake (& large gravel area is large enough for us to fully turn around our 40’ trailer) Thank you! We will be back for sure!

This place has it all! Beautiful scenery, river access, fishing, kayak, horses, otters, amazing sunsets. On our two week trip this was by far the best place we stayed. The RV site was right on the water, we got a wonderful tour of the property by Karin. She made sure our son had a life jacket and a net to catch tadpoles. He had plenty of room to ride his bike and it felt very safe. The kitchen is fully functional, bathrooms were very clean. The only downside is that we only stayed two nights! Highly recommend!

Wonderful space. It was our first time with full hook up and man did it feel like glamping. I rode my mx e bike on the sandy turns leading up to the river which was great. We even went in for a little dip in the river as well! Can’t wait to come back with another couple so they can rent the trailer on site and we can camp next to them. It’s a perfect setup for your friends who don’t have a trailer but you’ve been wanting to get them out camping!

Weekend Trip to Lake Merwin Getaway

We spent Memorial Day weekend at this amazing private campground with three trailers and two tents—plenty of space and privacy for our whole crew. The kids spent hours at the creek catching trout and “axolotls” (giant salamanders, but don’t tell them!). Speelyai Beach is just a 30-second drive away, with a calm bay perfect for paddleboarding and a roped-off swim area. We also visited the Ape Caves for the first time—absolutely stunning! The central campfire was dreamy for morning coffee and evening s’mores, and the bathroom was clean and convenient for our tent campers. We are already planning our next trip back and would highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for a private, family-friendly camping experience close to nature and adventure. Five stars all the way!
