Waterfall Sanctuary is a hidden gem on 17 acres, bordered on two sides by the Gifford Pinchot N F. In the heart of the Columbia River Gorge just outside Carson, Washington, it is home to a mini-farm with goats, ducks, & chickens. Deer & elk walk through the property on a fairly regular basis depending on the season, it's less than a mile walk (or short drive) to the Wind River & a swimming hole, & a short distance further is the Pacific Crest Trail.
A 20-minute drive & you're at the Columbia River. An hour to the West is Portland if you are in the mood for some city life, & 35 minutes east is Hood River, a gorgeous old town with tons of charm. The closest town, Stevenson, Washington is home to shops, local restaurants, & access to the Columbia River.
Also in close proximity are amazing waterfalls, trails, & National Forest roads that are close by & well maintained. No matter the season there is something to do a short distance from the property.
Keep in mind that the property is very rugged except for the trails we have provided to access other parts of the property. We are as off grid & sustainable as possible- while no electricity or running water is available at the individual sites, we provide battery or solar operated lighting, & a container of water for each site.

It is a short but very uphill hike from the parking area. When you arrive, feel free to find your way up to the cabin. You may want to pack light as it is a bit of a hike! The cabin has a well equipped kitchen that will accommodate 8 people comfortably at meal time, a living room that centers around the fireplace, a sitting room that provides both an extension of the living room and a connection to the covered deck and the creek out back.
There are two bedrooms on the main floor. The main bedroom, with a queen bed, has its own bathroom. The second bedroom also has a queen bed and an annex bedroom with both a full size bed and a trundle below. There is also the upstairs loft space, which has two full sized beds each with their own trundle bed. In addition, there is a bonus space downstairs with it own full sized day bed that stays nice and cool in the summer, but needs a little pre-heating in the winter months to be comfortable for most folks. Our family’s favorite thing about the main floor bedrooms is their proximity to the sounds of the creek.

The forest view cabin was cozy. We went in winter so bring some extra blankets and you’ll be set. We loved the trails around the property and the goats were so cute. Tyla gave us great recommendations for local restaurants that were delicious and the little cafe in the house was a great added bonus. We also did the sauna and it was amazing.

It’s very stress free, Amanda is a wonderful host and the place is quite frankly, stunning. I enjoy places of silence and few people, and this has both. It's was so beautiful and secluded. We only saw 1 other person while we were there. There were motion sensor lights leading to the cabin, a good size tent space that was included, the propane fire was lovely, and it was really great that wagons were provided to take things down to the cabin. Direct water access was amazing

We loved our time here at the cabin! It's peaceful and feels secluded except for the highway noise (which is just what it is, can't help that!). I love that it is right on the river with its own private beach. There is a picnic table, grill, chairs and even a propane charcoal fireplace. Joshua the owner had thoughtful additions like a hose for dish washing, a recycling box and a can recycling spot right at he site. The walking trails are labeled and there is even a fire extinguisher at a central location between the cabin and camp spots. Its a beautiful location and you could tell it was thoughtfully planned as a camp spot. I loved having the wheel barrows to help us set up camp, too.
The only cons I would say would be the highway noise and the steep walk down to the sites. It's super nice to have Porta potties by the parking spots and it makes sense to have them there to routinely clean. But it is a walk to get there lol. But there are lights along the way which is very nice.
Over all a beautiful area and a relaxing trip was had! Ty, Joshua

This place is absolutely amazing. Gorgeous little creek that has small cascading waterfalls all the way down. Short, but steep hike up to the cabin.
Pack only the essentials.
You were just a short driveway from Great restaurants and a grocery store would definitely stay here again 10 out of 10 recommend.

Joshua’s land is beautiful! The cabin which we stayed in has its own private sandy beach river front which was amazing! Very beautiful and relaxing. The cabin was clean and very cute. The bed was very comfy. The cabin is rustic so it doesn’t have electricity but there were small lamps for light. Be prepared for a bit of a workout taking all your belongings down a steep hill in a wagon or wheel barrel.

Weekend Trip to Crystal Creek Cabin
Were do I begin? This place was amazing. With a teen off to visit family my husband and I wanted a weekend getaway with the dogs. I’m not sure how we got lucky to find this gem last minute but I’m glad we did. One of our dogs can be a little leash reactive so to find a place where he can roam off leash is so wonderful. The dogs loved roaming around while we enjoyed the outdoors.
Don’t be me. I overpacked and wore Arizona Birkenstocks thinking short steep hike, pssshh I’ll be fine! Instead I turned back to the truck and put on trail runners. Pack a day pack with just your essentials and another backpack cooler with food. That’s all you will need! We were pleasantly surprised to find lanterns, coffee fixings and water.
My even keel husband rarely outwardly expresses impression. He had so many good things to say about this place, including the peacefulness, down to the quality of the build. Having built a few things in my day, curiousity got the best of me on how the materials we brought it, would love to see a little book on “how the little cabin came to be”.
We will be back! Maybe next time without dogs so we can enjoy the hot tub, looked like an epic experience!
We did try to find the hike to the falls but the path wasn’t super clear and I didn’t want to intrude on anyone’s space.
