This small farm is 7 acres of the original 25 my great grandmother purchased for her family in 1934. Guests can enjoy the cabin as well as the barn, which has been converted to a rec area. Make our home and green space yours for a few days. Camp in comfort in our "little cabin in the woods." Accommodates up to six guests, with a queen-sized bed, a futon and two low single beds in the loft, accessible only by ladder. Kids 6 and older may sleep in the loft-- just like Laura and Mary-- and they can read a chapter of one of Laura Ingalls' "Little House" books before bed! The Camp Cabin contains a small refrigerator, microwave and gas fireplace (no, the pioneers didn’t have that!). Fresh eggs and other snacks are provided for breakfast. The restroom and shower are located in the walkout basement of the farmhouse, a 40 yard walk from the Cabin. The restroom has a private entrance and is used only by guests during their stay. In 1955 when my family bought our 180-acre farm, there were Shagbark Hickory trees lining both shores of a rock-filled stream. Years later a 550-acre lake was created from damming our stream and Hickory shores became the wildlife- filled headwaters. Bald Eagles, fox, river otters, ospreys, beaver, and deer are frequent visitors to our farm along with other water birds and wildlife. Recreational opportunities are plentiful including fishing, paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking. The 50 mile Western Reserve Greenway paved bike trail is 1 1/2 miles away on country roads and other adjoining roads create unlimited quiet country rides and walks. In 2023 we have added a 3/4 mile wooded trail along the shores of Rock Creek with lookouts and 27 numbered stops. These stops are described in our Hickory Shores interpretive guide available at the trailhead. Additional hiking trails continue upstream and connect two seasonal waterfalls on the property. Benches along the way provide quiet spots to rest or picnic. Spectacular sunsets, a quiet country paved road and Amish buggies await your visit. We are in Ashtabula County, home to 32 wineries and 19 covered bridges including the shortest and longest in the U.S. The second weekend in October brings the Covered Bridge Festival in nearby Jefferson, Ohio. We are conveniently located south of Lake Erie and 16 miles east of Pymatuning Reservoir for additional recreational opportunities. We currently offer 2 campsites, and both are conveniently located near a cottage style bathroom which features a flush toilet and shower. The electric site provides a 30 amps connection and a hook-up to water if desired. Each site has a campfire ring with outdoor chairs. A redwood picnic table is located at each site. An outdoor utility sink is also provided for dishwashing and can be found outside the bathhouse. Abundant firewood is available for $5.00 a wheelbarrow. (Honor system). If you are bringing dogs, please be aware that Sunny the inside/outside cat may greet you (he loves to say hello). For his safety and the safety of your pet, please keep dogs leashed. We had a great time at Shady Maple cabin! It was a beautiful place to unwind, de-stress, and be in an amazing setting! The cabin had everything you would need for a relaxing time. We love a good log cabin and this did not disappoint! It was clean, had snacks, jacuzzi tub inside, a hot tub outside, board games, was private enough and everything worked as it should. Shout out to the hosts for sharing this beautiful property with us! Will definitely go back!

We had a wonderful stay here! The facilities were nice and the grounds beautiful - I definitely recommend a walk around the fishing pond. The autumnal foliage was gorgeous mid-October. Staff was responsive and even brought us extra firewood on a chilly evening when the camp store was out.

We arrived at the campground a bit later than expected and had some trouble figuring out where to park and it was a bit tricky to maneuver in the dark. Thankfully, the camp host was very responsive. The short hike to the overlook was a good morning stroll. Overall, it’s a great campsite for anyone who enjoys camping but still wants access to bathroom and shower facilities.

I was very excited for this stay, and it was even better than I expected. The land and the cabin were beautiful, Donna and Garry were lovely as were all the goats and the chickens! My husband and I were looking for a quiet couples getaway. We found the property and site to be beautiful. The cabin was cozy. The hosts were awesome! They thought of everything!! What stood out as unique is the access to the barn where we found an endless amount of activities. We fed the goats, hiked a beautiful trail and watched a spectacular sunset. We even made time to practice our canoeing skills on the small pond that was adjacent to our cabin. The bathroom in the back basement of the host house was clean and well stocked only about 75 feet away from our cabin. They kept this area well lit just in case you had to go in the middle of the night. What a fun experience for families with small children!!

The farm was interesting, peaceful, and beautiful. The signs that described the permaculture activities were unobtrusive and insightful. There is a perfectly placed covered seating area in front of the gorgeous pond that provides a great area to watch the wildlife. The tiny house we stayed in and the bathhouse were clean and just what we needed. Recommend this stay, esp if you favor natural living off the land.
