Weekend Trip to Bending Oak Permaculture Farm

The property was beautiful, and I cannot say enough good things about the owners. Nancy and her team went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable in the blue cabin. Despite our incredibly late arrival, they were there to greet us and make sure we felt comfortable and had everything we needed. We will absolutely be back!

Joe is very friendly host. Great local historian. The property sits close to a road and a railroad but neither bothered me. I see why he offers free ear plugs for light sleepers. His location in relation to the trail can’t be beat.

Awesome spot right off the tow path. Wish I could have stayed to enjoy it but after several delays I ended up getting there after dark and had to leave asap the next morning. Being 105 miles by bike from my start was a big plus for me. Next time I pass through I'll hang around haha.

Nice property, right off of the towpath. I did an overnighter on my bike, this place was perfect for that. It's a short ride into town for restaurants. Also Joe was super nice, very knowledgeable about history of the local area and his property specifically.

Joe was very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable about the areas history, which was very interesting to learn about. The campsite was well maintained and thoughtfully laid out. Campsites are extremely close to towpath access (basically next to it) and close by to the river so you do not have to go far for outdoor recreation. Will be back soon!

We had a wonderful time staying at Bill and Nancy’s Hipcamp! While our site was up against the garage and not a traditional scenic campsite that we are used to, the location was excellent and worked well for our stay. The real highlight was the warm hospitality—Bill and Nancy are fantastic hosts who made us feel welcome from the start. Their property is peaceful, and we appreciated the convenience of being close to everything we wanted to explore. It was a great spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy the surroundings. If you’re looking for a simple, quiet place with friendly hosts, this is a great option!

My family moved here in 1957 and I purchased it from my father in 1975. My wife is responsible for much of the landscaping and home improvements that have been done since 1990. Bass and Buck Tent Adventures

With over 230 acres, a lake, trails, the Grand River, plenty of wildlife, and FREE firewood. Bass and Buck Adventures is the perfect place to get away. Once known as Parkman Gorge the valley was a hub for water powered industry in the early 1800's. The river and valley is home to a wide array of wildlife. Deer, turkey, eagles, hawks, owls, mink, river otters to name a few. The area also attracts many song birds including a wide variety of warblers. There is also an abundance of wild flowers. The valley is rich in Native American history. Many artifacts have been found on the property. My great grandfather talked about the last Native American to live in Parkman. He had a cabin on one of the bluffs along the river. In the 1820's there was a water powered sawmill, flaxseed mill, and forge on the river. The boy scouts used the valley for a camp in the 1920,s. My grandpa purchased the property in the 50's from Ohio Edison. Ohio Edison's plan to dam up the river for hydro power never materialized. The valley has been a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts. Camping, hiking, fishing, hunting. Many of the items used for the camp sites have been reclaimed. The fire rings are old tractor rims and scrap steel. The tent platform is from reclaimed deck lumber. Located on the historic Ohio-Erie Canal between the village of Bolivar Ballparks and the McDonnell trailheads on the towpath trail ten miles south of Canton, Ohio, and 1.5 miles west of I-77 exit 93 on Scenic Byway Rt 212 in beautiful Tuscarawas County, Ohio. The Peace Park is designed for bikers, hikers, dog walkers, and anyone traveling through to book a campsite even if anyone isn't available to meet and greet. Campers, once booked may go to an available campsite and set up camp. Dog-friendly, handicapped-accessible Porta-Jon with hand sanitizer, shared electricity for charging phones, pristine aquifer water, picnic tables, fire pits, fire-side benches, birds, butterflies, lightning bugs, wild turkeys, deer, and other wildlife are often seen. Please note: We're located on a section of the Ohio-Erie Canal Scenic Byway, the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad, and a 90-degree corner with a slight slope that causes trucks to downshift brakes. If you're a light sleeper, we recommend bringing earplugs! We now offer disposable individual packaged earplugs in our Porta-Jon.

Welcome to Sawdust FarmCamp! Located in Geneva, Ohio. We have four different sites to choose from: one tent site, two glamping tent sites, and one cabin. NEW 2025! The Nature Mindfulness Hike, where we find a deeper connection to nature, is now included with your stay. It is held every Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Need some additional relaxation? Book a Reiki Healing at the Jug House next to the pond for an extra fee. Reiki is a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique that promotes healing. Contact your host for availability before booking. We also have the option to book all our sites for a 15-person retreat, with special extras only available for that booking, including a pavilion teepee tent. Portable toilets are available, pets are welcome, and campfires are permitted. Potable water and hot water showers are only available at our cabin, and our glamping sites only have solar camp showers (not the tent site New hot showers are being planned for the 2024 season. Naturalist Isabelle H. Klein wrote a collection of letters from her home of Sawdust (named form the sawdust left by the loggers of the early 60’s) for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Magazine from the winter of 1969 to the summer of 1976. They then were published as the book “Letters From Sawdust” by the Press of Case Western Reserve University for the Museum. It is a lyrical voyage through the seasons at the Sawdust Tract in Northeast Ohio. She details encounters with the wildlife of the area as well as the changing seasons and plant life. Reminiscent of Thoreau's writings about Walden. In 1978 an additional house was moved onto the property from Sidley's gravel pit and joined with the existing Klein farmhouse. We decided to preserve almost 400 acres of the property with the help of the Western Reserve Land Conservatory for the Cleveland Museum Of Natural History, Natural Areas. Forest is home to the red-sided dace, and 10 rare species of birds, including cerulean warblers. The original small family farm and surrounding woods we have retained are being restored and updated. We are proud to call Sawdust home and would love to share it with you.

Tipi Village is equipped with a shared outdoor kitchen and dining area, including a gas barbeque grill and fresh spring water. There is also an instant-heat outdoor shower available. A family-friendly fire pit with surrounding seating is a centralized spot for drum circles, late night marshmallows, and evening conversations. At night you'll see fireflies and hear plenty of crickets, bullfrogs and singing tree frogs. Just outside the Tipi Village fence awaits "Discovery Park" for the kids... the "Best Playground Ever!" The park includes kid powered train cars, gem mining, dual zip lines, a real fire truck, woods to explore, a shallow lagoon to take a raft across and much more. A walk through the old-growth forest brings a quiet sense of peace and a genuine earthing connection. Cleveland is 45 minutes away with the rock-n-roll museum, science center, botanical gardens and much more. Amish country is 45 minutes South with many attractions, stores and restaurants. There is a large assemblage of old order Amish just 10 minutes west with many farm produce stands. Dragway 42 is also just 10 minutes SW near West Salem.
