We had a great time. It was such a beautiful and relaxing setting - just what we needed to unplug and connect for a long weekend. Elizabeth was a fantastic host and went above and beyond to help us feel welcome. Our 2.5 year old son had so much fun splashing in the river and visiting with the farm animals. Would totally recommend!!

This place is an absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest welcome by Dianne, she’s incredibly kind, thoughtful, and genuinely cares about her guests. She made sure we had everything we needed and even checked in on us during our stay to ensure we were comfortable. The location itself is stunning, peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a getaway. My husband, friends and I had an unforgettable time camping under the stars, swimming in the refreshing creek, river tubing, and grilling. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. If you’re looking for a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and be hosted by someone who truly goes above and beyond, this is it. We will definitely be back! This little haven was exactly what we were hoping for this trip - immersion in the outdoors with a few more amenities than just plain camping. Elizabeth’s place was so thoughtfully and creatively designed, and it truly was peaceful. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Great little spot with 3 different sites. We stayed at site 2 which has a parking spot/tent spot, shelter with picnic table/chairs and fire pit. Each site has its own fire pit and a shelter which is really nice. The hosts are fantastic and greet you as you come in. They have fire wood and a very clean porta potty bathroom on site. The driveway looks rough but my small hatchback made it across the bridge and down the gravel lot. It's a short driveway just be aware of mud spots when it rains. We definitely are coming back as this was one of the best locations, safe and had just about everything we needed. Thank you Garry & Dianne!

Site 2 with the deck was perfect! Great access to river / swimming hole, nice private area for fire, outlet on deck, and plenty of chairs. Stars are amazing on a clear night, and sleeping with the sounds of the creek was very relaxing.

4 nights at Outercamp, Blue Ridge Falls Retreat

I recently stayed at Geri’s Creekside Yurt, it was such a magical experience. The yurt was super private and secluded, with the creek just about 20 feet away. The walkway to the yurt was also really accessible, almost stroller-friendly, compared to other areas that had more steps. Inside, they provided both a fan and heating, making it comfortable no matter the weather. There were also plenty of board games, books, and other games for entertainment. They had so much thought into all of the essentials provided we almost felt we overpacked! The attention to detail was amazing. Everything was thoughtfully labeled, making it easy to find your way around. Even the outhouse, which I was initially worried about, turned out to be no issue at all. The interior design was also so warming and beautiful to enjoy, even the linens and towels were thoughtfully chosen. Overall, it’s clear that so much thought and care went into creating this peaceful space, highly recommend this beautiful retreat :)

Great & personal owners operating a grass fed pig (kune kune) and cow farm with some nice on-site camper and tent sites. Primitive campsites have no-bug, zero odor cedar outhouses and water a few hundred feet away. A plumbed toilet bath house available for small $5 feet) with free WiFi at the outpost. Challenging trails and waterfalls on-site and they serve the local community and youth in many ways. Great people and great place to stay!

Beautiful, peaceful and remote. The farm is immaculately clean. The multitude of animals are well taken care of and a great addition. Book the tour to learn what an interesting history the farm has. The host and staff were wonderful. I will be back!

Weekend Trip to The Waldhaus Resort

We had a great weekend with our two dogs surrounded by nature. The hike up sure is steep and we would say it’s not for anyone who is out of shape especially if you plan on making additional trips down to sightsee over your stay, which we did to Asheville. (We did find a great walking stick along the way and left it at the base camp too in case it lives on) Hans is so hospitable and gave great instructions for the cabin that he built so well, it’s a great balance of modern and rustic. There is still cell service so if you’re looking to unplug, Airplane Mode is needed. We hope the Summit continues to provide great experiences like this for years to come, it is a gem.

The Hillside site had more than I normally look for in a camp site, including an awesome cooking/prep area, a lovely platform for my tent, and so many included supplies that I was able to dramatically cut what I normally pack. The creekside area is gorgeous. I'm ready to come back with a group of friends!

Highly recommend! We had an amazing weekend at rose creek! The hosts were so kind and helpful. We were able to spend some time with the them and they have a wonderful family! We enjoyed listening to and playing in the creek. 3 boys under 10 and a dog give it 5 stars! The adults loved it to. The creeks was beautiful and so peaceful. Such a calm surrounding. Close to parks and lovely waterfalls. Don’t hesitate to go!

The yurt was awesome! Cozy and comfy, with a beautiful large deck surrounded by trees and bird song. We felt like we were sleeping in a treehouse in Costa Rica! The kitchen was well stocked and we loved that it was outdoors. We did see 3 bears while we were there, but they were not at all concerned with us. When we said “hey bear” to them they sauntered off in the other direction. Hoot Owl falls was lovely as well!

Babbling Brook Campground

Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. Merlefest, the last weekend of April, is a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town. Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.

The property features an established pasture, mountain ridges, barns, and a homestead. In addition, the ranch is home to five ponds (some stocked and one trophy), more than a mile of trout streams, waterfalls, and hiking trails. Together, they provide the perfect foundation for the establishment of farming, livestock, camping, and community events. All profits of Blue Ridge Ranch go to Hope for His Children, Inc., a 501(c)(3) that conducts youth camps at the ranch. Tours of the ranch are available for $10/person and includes interaction with some farm animals. We pride ourselves in doing everything possible to help our guests have a great experience. In 2024, we introduced our private Shower House, featuring three fully equipped bathrooms with showers, sinks, and toilets, plus heating and air conditioning. We also offer pre-furnished bell tents, camping platforms, and at site water and electricity (select sites) for your convenience. If you want to immerse yourself in outdoor camping without sacrificing the comforts of home, our glamping tent features a queen-size bed with linens, as well as a twin bed that converts into a second bed for added convenience. Stay cozy with a heated indoor wood stove, and enjoy a kitchen table, dresser, and chair for your convenience. You'll also have access to a private bathroom complete with a fully functioning toilet, indoor/outdoor hot shower, and sink. Outside, a private covered kitchen awaits, equipped with a kitchen sink, cooler, pots and pans and cooking utensils. Relax in your lounge chairs on the porch and take in the views, and indulge in outdoor cooking with a gas grill, picnic table, and outdoor fire pit area. During your stay at our farm, guests can unwind amidst natural surroundings, visit with our animals, enjoy on farm activities and explore the wide variety of local attractions that the surrounding area has to offer. Just 30 minutes west, you’ll find the Blue Ridge Parkway. Kerr Scott Lake is only 10 minutes away, where you can swim, rent kayaks and pontoon boats, fish, or enjoy mountain biking and hiking on extensive trails. Prayer Mountain is about 2 miles up the road. To the east, explore several wineries and a local moonshine distillery. A half-hour away, visit the Amish community with shops like Shiloh Bakery and General Store (closed Sundays and Mondays). For fantastic hiking, head northeast to Stone Mountain, about 45 minutes away, which also features a renovated homestead. To the south, Rocky Face Park offers hiking and rock climbing, while Emerald Hollow Mine allows you to search for and keep precious stones. We are only 4 miles from Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. Hiking and fishing are fantastic in both Doughton Park and Stone Mountain SP, and Stone Mountain also has rock climbing routes. In addition, we are less than a 30-minute drive from about a dozen or so vineyards. Elkin NC is about 40 minutes east, Wilkesboro NC is about 40 minutes south, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is 20 minutes away. We--Emma and Jonathon--live in an off-grid cabin on the property. We both garden and write (travel- and sustainability-type stuff), and we are happy to share info about the property and stuff to do around the area.
