5 nights at Campgrounds at Little Switzerland

Chrissy is a great host, very welcoming and helpful. The grounds are a lot of fun, beautiful gardens and some easy walking trails. Easy access to water and a hot shower. The Gold Dust site where I stayed was very close to the action- so expect to hear everything at the brewery. It is still tucked away and visually private with all-day shade. Even though it was so close, I still felt like I had a private getaway. Don’t skip the cider, it’s the best I’ve ever had.

This place is a hidden gem for sure! Chrissy was so sweet & made sure I had everything I needed. The winery/cidery was such a cool spot with delicious drinks. I loved being able to hangout there with my dog. I was even offered fresh eggs & fruit! The topaz site was just secluded enough for me & wasn’t a long walk at all to the bathroom or parking. Chrissy let me borrow a wheelbarrow to bring all my stuff to and from. It was so cool to be able to visit her horses. I wish I had planned a longer stay cause it was such a nice place to be. I was nervous to tent camp by myself for the first time but as soon as I got there my nerves went away (the drinks may have helped haha) Jolene & I will be back!

Weekend Trip to Outercamp, Blue Ridge Falls Retreat

This was wonderful. Private, quiet, and comfortable. They've added all sorts of thoughtful touches, such as binoculars and a cooler with ice, to help you enjoy your stay. We didn't shower or cook only because out stay was so brief. My first time glamping rather than camping, and it was great!

6 nights at Broken Oak Riverside Getaway

This hipcamp experience was everything we could ask for! It was right on the river on the most beautifulest farm. The river was perfect, serene, cool, and refreshing. It's perfect for all ages to play in because there's some shallow spots for kids, sand beach, and a small pool to swim around it. The river was also very clear and created a beautiful sound especially with the birds and crickets chirping. The tent area is clean and in close proximity to the shower/bathhouse. The bathhouse was also very nice. The host, Craig, was very nice and communicated effectively. There's even plants & eggs for sale as well We will 100% be coming back

2 nights at Starlight Hills

We stayed at MTG 1 for 2 nights with our 2 grandsons and 2 dogs. Starlight Hills is a great spot for camping...we loved the view and the hammocks especially (MTG 1 is next to the common area with grills and hammocks). It was a bit hot (expected), so bring battery fans! (and bug repellent). Water station was great (although a walk down/up hill from our site). Port-a-Potty not far. Showers were excellent! Overall, a wonderful experience. One suggestion is to add a few more grills (2 may not be enough for those full weekends). Yurt was clean and thoughtfully arranged, although a bit tight with our crew. William was very responsive to questions and made sure to greet us with our add-ons we purchased. Memories were made....thank you!!

1 night at Starlight Hills

The dome is so lovley, it felt so magical and i was able to get some cell service during my stay. Such a huge surprised there was some games there. The shower were cold but really spacious. Def will be going back

4 nights at Outercamp, Blue Ridge Falls Retreat

I recently stayed at Geri’s Creekside Yurt, it was such a magical experience. The yurt was super private and secluded, with the creek just about 20 feet away. The walkway to the yurt was also really accessible, almost stroller-friendly, compared to other areas that had more steps. Inside, they provided both a fan and heating, making it comfortable no matter the weather. There were also plenty of board games, books, and other games for entertainment. They had so much thought into all of the essentials provided we almost felt we overpacked! The attention to detail was amazing. Everything was thoughtfully labeled, making it easy to find your way around. Even the outhouse, which I was initially worried about, turned out to be no issue at all. The interior design was also so warming and beautiful to enjoy, even the linens and towels were thoughtfully chosen. Overall, it’s clear that so much thought and care went into creating this peaceful space, highly recommend this beautiful retreat :)

Great spot! Very secluded but still reasonably close to all Asheville sites! Beautiful views of the night sky. The outdoor kitchen area is amazing and I couldn’t recommend more highly! Hosts are nice very responsive! Would absolutely stay again!

2 nights at Above the Fray Glamping, Black Mtn.

Very nice experience. I love the roads. Got a glimpse of small black bear close to entry of main road. Great place to stay - nights are quiet and sleeping areas very safe. Treehouse was well equipped with electricity and counter space. Just bring food and cooler.

1 night at Waterfall camping close to CLT

Magical place easily one of the best Hipcamps. We have been to. its summer time would recommend Bugspray but overall nothing too crazy. 10/10 will be back with the family

Weekend Trip to Mountain View Acres

This site is at the bottom of a hill and was all grass, very nice to sleep on. It’s also VERY private. Nobody else next to you. It does have an electric fence for the cows but I parked my vehicle between the site and the fence and then we used our solar path lights to make sure we didn’t walk into it at night. It was worth it because my 2 and 5 year old were in love with all the animal visitors and it really made their stay. My little guy would drag his chair over and just sit and watch them. They love the ducks cat and chickens especially. This sit has a killer sunset view. And is surrounded by wildflowers. There is a wood stack! I brought my own but that was a blessing. And a very huge firepit. Luckily I have a little grill with legs to put in the fire for our meals. The bath house is large and was kept very clean, all fixtures working. At night, you could watch allll these fireflies lifting out of the grass around it and it felt magical. The host was not only communicative but very kind. I was worried about the electric fence as I didn’t realize I’d be so close and she offered to move us. But it was worth it like I said. Her son also ran a bell and fed the cows for my kids which they thought was fantastic. And they turned the fence off for some petting as well. The property is pretty and there was cell reception and we were 6 minutes from a gas ration so while it was set apart, you could restock on things if you needed them. I recommend Little Bradley Falls nearby

What a wonderful space! My husband and I don’t frequently find ourselves with a weekend off and I’m so glad that we found this little retreat site for the brief break we could take! It had everything we could want; a sweet little dock area for fishing, privacy, established fire pit and even a table provided if you need it. We are so grateful ☺️

Bigfoot Brook Campground

If you are looking for peace and tranquility in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this privately owned, primitive campground is a great place for your tent! Nestled in Medford Mountain at about 1200 ft., each creek-side slip has a magnificent view of the 1532 ft. mountaintop. Whether surrounded by spring blossoms or fall foliage, animal and leaf lovers often see turkeys at dawn and deer at dusk. Foxes and bobcats have also been spotted on occasion. It is important to note that bear and coyote roam freely on the adjacent mountaintop, although are rarely seen or heard. Proper wilderness precautions must always be taken while camping. Aside from the flora and fauna, one of the biggest attractions is the star-filled sky. On a clear night, it is imperative to take a break from your private campfire to appreciate the Milky Way. You may also enjoy the meteor showers in August and other celestial events. Not to be outdone, the day sky does not disappoint. If a pop-up shower passes through, a double rainbow is often left in its wake. In the surrounding area, there are many outdoor activities to enjoy during the day. In a half hour or less, you may go horseback riding, ziplining, kayaking, tubing, fishing, hiking, and climbing. Public access to Lake Lure is less than 15 mi. away, but access to a lakeside road with amazing views is only a couple of minutes away. In addition, there is a little-known waterfall about 8 minutes up the street. If spending the day on site, be sure to walk the trail on the opposite side of the creek and hike up the hill for a different view. In addition, badminton, volleyball, ladder ball, cornhole, Yardzee, croquet, bocce, frisbees, footballs, board games and books are available for free rental. Plus, children may enjoy gem mining in the creek (for an additional fee). Of course, everyone can play Slapsquatch on the grounds for free. *Last minute decision? No worries! Welcome to the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina! At approximately 3,455 feet elevation we enjoy mountain breezes all summer long, especially in the evening! . The Raised bed style flat tent sites divert water during rain storms so there is no water or mud flowing into your tents. PLEASE DO NOT ‘photo book’! We ask guests to please read through the details BEFORE booking a site and do not book by photos alone. For example: not all tent sites are park at sites. Some of our more secluded sites in the woods are far from bathrooms etc. PLEASE Do your research!!! Sites near the winery/bathrooms are not secluded and you can see/hear ‘people’. The ‘wildlife’ sites require parking in guest parking lot and a 5 minute walk. As of Jan 2025 we change to an age 13+ campground. No one under the age of thirteen years old is permitted to camp overnight. Younger children will still be permitted to visit the winery next door to the campground during open hours but must have an adult (18 years plus) with them at ALL times! Due to an incident that could have ended in tragedy we have a zero tolerance policy of unsupervised children. You will be asked to leave if your young child is unattended by an adult. During the summer months we often have free range chicken eggs and organic produce and herbs available for our campers. We are next to our own winery/cidery that features home brew wines and beer. We also offer coffee and sodas. Firewood is for sale. You may bring your own firewood as long as it’s not from out of state. We have a few primitive sites in our woods for those who love more seclusion and places to hang hammocks. We cannot stress this enough and it has been problematic to many hipcamp hosts We offer Hiking/jogging trails at the campground with more trails on the nearby blue ridge parkway. We are just around the corner from the famous Emerald Village Mines and only a 5 minute drive to downtown Little Switzerland. We are also only a 5 minutes drive to the famous Diamondback scenic mountain road. Approximately 20 minutes drive to Crabtree Falls on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Many weekends we have live music from local musicians. Our cantina next door at 539 blue ridge gem mine road is now open for the season and serving home brew beers and small batch ciders for ages 21 and older. Photo ID required. Sodas available for purchase as well. We now have a well lit covered porch area and club house with free WiFi and available 24 hours to our campers. Note: absolutely no outside alcohol or underage alcohol consumption permitted on premises. Anyone not in compliance with North Carolina state laws and federal laws will be evicted from campgrounds without refunds. If the campgrounds happen to be under a burn ban please understand that we can’t and will not break the law for you! All campers must obey the burn ban if in effect or face possible penalties under state law! This is for your own safety as well. Anything sold by us may be legally consumed at your campsite and is covered under our winery ABC permit. The Latest check in permitted is 11:30 pm at night out of courtesy to our neighbors and other campers. Camp host can’t go to bed until all campers are checked in so no late night arrivals please! All minors must have ADULT supervision at all times at the winery next door (older siblings do not qualify as adult supervision). With farm animals and 140 acres of woods nearby and three deep ponds in those woods it can be a dangerous situation for young, unsupervised children. If we are babysitting your children to keep them out of danger or from damaging our property you’ll be asked to leave. We want everyone to be safe. Up to 2 dogs are allowed per campsite. Dogs Must remain on leash at all times and have proof of up to date rabies vaccination. A rabies tag or photo of certificate is fine. We have chickens and horses on our mini farm so please keep dogs under control at all times. Also, please do not feed our chickens, horses or any of the wildlife on our property. It is the responsibility of our campers to check the weather conditions, noting any burn bans for the area or rain etc, looking at all the rules and property details, before booking is the campers responsibility. Please do not blame the host! HipCamp now offers rainy day insurance. Watch for our special events like ghost story campfire tales/walk with local guest authors, mountain yoga, herbal remedies classes, trail treasure hunts with prizes, mushroom identification classes etc. Additional parking is available for added cars in the guest parking lot area if campers have no more room at their campsite for visitors or any extra cars. We have a hot/cold shower and modern style flush toilets available in large cargo container. We also now have free Starlink WiFi in the Cantina/clubhouse area and some of the closer tent sites. Our clubhouse stays open for campers 24/7 with a microwave available, games, television and comfortable seating areas. Note: The One quarter mile of gravel drive is steep but I drive my two wheel drive car up and down it every day. However, if you have a vehicle that chugs and struggles up hills (older RV etc) you may find it a challenge. We are working on getting that section paved to help out the older RVs and buses. Note: The gray building and pond area is NOT our property. Please be respectful of our neighbors and the family that lives there. Do not wander around our neighbors pond /barn area. Thank you! All campers are expected to read and follow the HipCamp guidelines. This is not just a ‘business’, it is also a family home that we are graciously sharing with you for a small fee so we expect campers to respectful of our land, our neighbors and your fellow campers. Unsupervised children has been a huge problem lately and we simply won’t tolerate very young children wandering the woods, running across other folks campsites, deliberately damaging our property etc. It is up to the parents to fully supervise their children and keep them safe! Caught without a last minute hotel room and rather not park your family in Walmart lot? We offer car camping in our parking lot for $15.00 a night. You’ll have access to bathrooms and a hot shower! We also have tents, sleeping bags and camping mats for rent. My wife and I moved to the area, from Boone, in the spring of 2014. Our dream was to own a house, preferably a cabin, on top of a mountain with long range views and a gradual winding road to the top. Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. Waterfall camping close to CLT

My Neighbor has started his own Campsite, "The Swimming Hole". If mine is booked up and you still want to camp, look him up. His is better suited for small groups but has much more privacy. We have a new road to the campsite; you can now drive down with two-wheel drive vehicle or RV down and park near your tent! There is plenty of soft sand to set up one tent or ten tents; large groups are welcome for an extra fee. A Porta-Potty is available at the campsite. Swimming is usually possible at the base of the falls; however, large amounts of rain can change conditions and make it unusable. I should also add, this is not a completely private campsite deep in the woods. The camp is visible from a shared driveway, and my residence is up a hill that overlooks the area. Also, I do not own the land on the other side of the stream. Occasionally, the owners of that land will spend a weekend afternoon enjoying the waterfall view also. Still much quieter and more private than a regular campground. Glamping tents and additional camping tents are available through a local company. Look in the pictures for the tent with red, white, and blue balloons. Message me for details. The site offers three luxury large Safari Style Tents and 4 Pioneer wagons. All tents are far away from each other to provide privacy and freedom of going Wild (still remaining civilized in your manners and careful attitude to Nature around you). Tent 1 is in the Forrest itself and it is pretty cook and serene. Tent 2 is on the top of a rocky hill overlooking the forest. Tent 3 is the most remote and closest to the ponds. It has most of the open space around it, and can be a great place for parties. We are working on making the sites and the area more comfortable, but I do not want to make it a manicured park. I want it to remain wild and still offer comfortable stay. The farm is work in progress. Eventually it will be an Ostrich farm. and have other animals too. The closest town - Lenoir is about 12 miles away . Closest Grocery store (Dollar General) - about 3 miles away. Closest Gas station - 2 miles away. Professional Tennis court, Basketball court and large kids playground are in a public park within - 5 minute drive. Lenoir has restaurants, shopping, etc. Hickory is a larger town about 25 minutes drive. Hickory Lake is a large reservoir with marina where you can rent a boat and it also offers a good game fishing. Nice swimming beach access on Lake Hickory 13 miles ( 20 Minutes) from here: Lake Hickory Wittenburg access area (Wittenburg Access Area, 175 Wildlife Access Rd, Hickory, NC 28601) Asheville is 1:25 hrs to the West, Charlotte is 1:25 hr to the East. There are couple of Ski resorts 45 minutes to an hr away.

I have an open field and some woods. If you want to gather wood for a fire that’s fine. Or you can bring your own if you want a fire. There’s a spring that I drink out of and it’s the best water. There’s an outhouse, a very primitive outhouse. Maybe, "outhouse" is a stretch. Actually it’s a bucket in the woods w a seat. I built a little structure in the area to provide a feeling of privacy, but we'll see how it goes. Guests bring their own garbage bags and pack their shit out quite literally. It’s mostly quiet but occasional neighborhood dogs barking. One week stay is maximum as a general rule however, exceptions can be made.
