We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. Islandsite is located at the top of the island where the tumbling Squally Creek divides! Access is provided by the 40' long fallen tree bridge! Islandsite is amazing and very unique! Diamondstone, Heartstone, and Islandsite all feature a picnic table, charcoal grille, and comfort facility. They are all within a short walk from your private parking! Learn more about this land: Cabin is a 10 x12 with a porch across the front. Sit on the porch and listen to the breeze thru the tree leaves and birds chirping and owls hooting. There are 2 lofts for sleeping and a futon. Small area with coffee pot and fridge. Enjoy your meals either inside cabin or outside at the picnic table. There is no running water in the cabin. No cooking in the cabin, but toast or roast your meal at small fire pit near cabin and picnic table. A full bathroom is available in the basement of nearby home with a private entrance. There is unmarked hiking in the surrounding state forrest. With in a 30 min drive, you will find access to the Appalachian trail, lake Blueridge, toccoa river for paddling, Serenberry Winery. There is potable water available. Only fires allowed in fire pit near the cabin. This is the woods, we must be super cautious. Thank you. Bring your own towels and sleeping bag/ linens. There is room to pitch a tent near firepit if you wish.

Weekend Trip to Creekside Fishing Escape

We had an awesome time on our trip this past weekend. The temps dropped into the mid 20’s and we stayed nice and warm in our shelter. It was so well made and nicer than expected. All 4 of us were able to fit comfortably for 2 nights. The site itself sits right on a small pond and a short walk to the porta potty. This was the perfect spot for our little family adventure. The hosts were so wonderful to check in as we arrived and after the first really cold night so make sure we had enough fuel for the heater. Heater and battery were very appreciated even though we came prepared. Stores nearby if you forget something. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Excellent. 10/10. The house is clean and very well maintained. It’s super cozy. Hot tub worked great, blankets available for hanging outside. Stocked kitchen. Plenty of towels. Right on the water on fairly flat land. Had everything we needed. Will definitely stay again. Host is friendly and super responsive. Can’t wait to visit again as Franklin is an excellent place for a short vacation. Great places to eat and shopping within a short distance. My only complaint is that the beds are small, hard to tell if they were fulls or queens. No King bed (which is what I’m used to). Also no full-length mirrors. But otherwise, we loved it and will definitely be back.

Brian has created something so incredibly special here! We stayed at Diamondstone and he has added many special touches- the electric candles, little propane stove, wooden benches and handrails.... He is also INCREDIBLY responsive! We could not figure out how to work the padlock to get into the cabin (note: the numbers must be lined up in the GREEN section of the lock) but he answered right away even though it was 10pm (second note: there is no cell service there so you have to go a ways to find it). The cabin is not insulated and the stove does not put out much heat, so if you're coming in winter make sure you have good cold weather gear. My son set up his tent outside and as we both brought winter gear we had an wonderful, peaceful time reconnecting with nature and each other. Thank you Brian for being a wonderful host and creating such a special place.

Weekend Trip to Treehouse Hollow and Cabin Rentals

Amazing little cabin! Very clean and well thought out design. My son and I stayed for the weekend and loved the rushing creek right from the huge back covered patio. We also really enjoyed the clean hot tub. There was plenty of seclusion and privacy even with renters in the treehouse next door. We will definitely stay here again!

I cannot emphasize enough how beautiful this spot is. The stream, the trees, the quiet. I have camped in almost every state, and this is easily one of my favorite sites. The road in a bit bumpy, but doable. I easily made the trek in a civic. The road is also great for taking a scenic walk. The covered porch was perfect for a rainy afternoon, and the heater was a welcome addition on cool autumn evenings. Close to the stunning Joyce Kilmer Wilderness & Nantahala National Forest. I hope to come back again!

We loved our stay at the Magical Resorts Groundskeeper Cabin! Mary truly thought of every detail when designing and decorating each space. The beautiful stained glass, cozy bedding, fire torches, and even the dishes made us feel like we were actually in Hagrid’s cabin! Even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, the cabin is simply beautiful and so thoughtfully done. We have two younger children who absolutely loved it—they spent hours on the swings and the play area by the water and enjoyed feeding and petting the animals. One evening we visited downtown Haynesville and had a great meal at a local restaurant. We probably could have spent more time exploring the town, but we just loved relaxing in nature. Mary was so kind and quick to respond to all of my messages. We will definitely be back!

I stayed in the Dogwood cabin and it was perfect. The cabin was clean when I checked in and the bed (queen) was very comfortable. The bathrooms were also clean and it was nice having a microwave nearby. The campground was quiet. There seemed to be quite a few full-timer sites that weren’t occupied. Would definitely stay there again.

Such a great experience! The cottages were super cute, the property was peaceful, and we loved the animals and the little fairy village—it added so much charm. The hammock area was a really fun and relaxing touch. The host was kind, thoughtful, and very understanding when we had to leave earlier than planned. Everything was clean and cozy, and we truly enjoyed our time there. If I could make a small suggestion, it would be to add a few towel hooks for after showers and maybe clean the AC units or consider fans for better airflow. Other than that, everything was perfect—we’d happily stay again!

I really enjoyed my stay here! The campground is quiet, peaceful, and has a unique charm that makes it feel special. The rental was well stocked. Also, the owner was friendly and welcoming, which added to the great experience. The only thing I’d mention is that the air conditioning unit could use some cleaning or maybe an upgrade, and having a ceiling fan or two would really help with air circulation. Other than that, everything was great — I’d definitely stay here again!

We loved this site! The creek is so peaceful and the cabin was perfect. The site is easy to find using Brian’s directions. I’d recommend getting there before the sun goes down because it is very dark (but great for stargazing!).

Perfect spot to disconnect and be in a serene place all weekend! PLEASE BEWARE there is a giant active yellow jacket nest right on the bank of the creek at the site. If you have kids or are allergic, just be mindful. Brian was very easy to communicate with. The directions he sends you beforehand are spot on and we had no problem getting there. We did download an “offline map” (iPhone) before we lost service which was great to use on the way out of there. Wasn’t necessary but it was helpful. Even during the day, the cabin is pretty dark so bring extra lighting. Everything was very clean. The wood stove kept it nice and cozy. We will definitely be back!

Where to go

Nantahala National Forest

Take a drive to Nantahala National Forest, where campers can walk along hiking trails like Cable Cove or Spirit Ridge while anglers fish for rainbow trout and largemouth bass. About two hours from Andrews lies Cherokee National Forest.
